Overwatch - The world needs heroes, and Blizzard needs a TF2 game!

Played one game real quick as D.Va, just crushed the other team somehow. I'm really bad at games, I felt like I was playing against bots. It was a lot of fun, I'll definitely have to mess with it some more this weekend.
I've grown to really like D.Va's voice.
I can't stop enjoying Junkrat's voice, i just can't get enough of his personality.
hanzo feels really weak in comparison to the others who have a much easier time hitting shots
So I should wait until I pre-order then?
So I should wait until I pre-order then?
yes, theres no reason to preorder, but it is a good game thats worth buying
i also havent had that hollywood map pop once, did they remove it from the lineup?
So I should wait until I pre-order then?
The game isn't coming out in 7 months.
Unless you desperately want to burn your money, I'd say wait it out.
So I should wait until I pre-order then?
No. Not yet, at least.
If they ever feel like selling beta access to it, maybe, but until then, no.
i don't see the point in waiting to preorder.
blizzard most likely isn't going to do a 180 with the game's direction so what you see now is MORE OR LESS going to be what you'll see at launch.

But why take the chance? There is quite literally no reason whatsoever to pre-order now versus the day before the game releases. If anything it's counter-intuitive since you'll be down 40 dollars sooner rather than later.
If anything it's counter-intuitive since you'll be down 40 dollars sooner rather than later.
it's counter-intuitive to wait if you have a spare $40 right now and you know you're going to buy it at launch anyway.
[editline]20th November 2015[/editline]
nobody is risking anything by preordering a game that literally cannot do a 180

Your logic makes no sense whatsoever. You do not benefit from taking this risk. I agree that the risk is pretty minimal but it's a risk that nobody has reason to take. Furthermore I'd rather have 40 dollars in my wallet for more important things in the event I need it rather than spending on something that won't do anything for 7 months. And when that 7 months is up and I haven't spent that 40 dollars, then I'll be just as well off this very day, right as I type this to you, as I will be the day I buy the game 7 months from now.
So I'll ask again, what do I stand to benefit from preordering the game? Because from where I'm standing, there is quite literally nothing.
it could be dead on arrival
You get a skin, so there is no reason to preorder the game till 1 day before its release
At least wait until they decide that preorders get beta access.
At least wait until they decide that preorders get beta access.
nah next month they'll announce people already in beta get the game for free and preorders can play one month before release
I kinda wished that they had announced the pre-order stuff a little closer to release.
7 months is a really long time.
So I'll ask again, what do I stand to benefit from preordering the game? Because from where I'm standing, there is quite literally nothing.
if you're tight on cash, you would benefit from owning a game you plan on buying in 7 months. but i wouldn't suggest that if you're tight on cash, you wouldn't get anything tangible immediately and you could spend the money on something more important than a video game.
if you have a spare $40 you don't lose anything except a spare $40.
i understand the philosophy that preordering games is highly anti-consumer on paper but in practice it's shown that a lot of companies are very trustworthy.
other times it's not very trustworthy like watch_dogs and deus ex mankind divided.
so i'll repeat again, there's nothing wrong with buying something ahead of time if you know you'll buy it later anyway.
it could be dead on arrival
i don't understand how this would be possible. is the game shipping on faulty ssds or something
nobody is risking anything by preordering a game that literally cannot do a 180
They can always pull a payday 2 or a TF2. Those would be pretty unsavory.
what did TF2 do that was so wrong besides throwing balance and art style out the window years after launch
what did TF2 do that was so wrong besides throwing balance and art style out the window years after launch
You're acting like the word "besides" excuses either of those reasons. You're also acting like "years after launch" is working in the same way.
TF2 lost two of the most integral parts of having a great, popular game and ultimately became a worse game. It doesn't matter if it was years after launch either. TF2 is still one of the most popular games, and it's a shame that the people who still play it are having a butchered experience.
what did TF2 do that was so wrong besides throwing balance and art style out the window years after launch
They overall lost a lot of chances to regain momentum on the game.
End of the Line is a good example to this. That trailer + the fact Valve saw interest in it brought a lot of eager eyes over TF2, but instead of capitalizing on the hype they brought us a very underwhelming update.
And it's not even the only example. Another one worth mentioning is the fact they ignored the competitive scene in TF2 up until recently, when it has gone down compared to previous years.
You're also acting like "years after launch" is working in the same way.
It actually does in this context because preordering gets you the same game on launch as it would if you bought it day 1 or day 0 or whatever. Neither preordering nor buying day 1 is a bad decision because I can say with certainty that Overwatch isn't going to be much of a different product between now and launch. Whatever happens years post-launch is largely irrelevant in the context of a preordering debate because in the end the launch version is the version everyone's going to get.
[editline]20th November 2015[/editline]
If the game may THEORETICALLY be shit at launch, then there wouldn't even be a point in preordering for beta access either.
None of this makes sense.
Played for 6 hours and I can say the game is fucking ace. Only thing that is unfun is fighting against more than 1 bastion. It would be cool to see a highlander gamemode.
My friend got it and he doesn't play FPS games fuk lol
There's also no item or skill customization/unlocks, no leveling system, no achievements, and no multiplayer ranking. There is no semblance of progression anywhere in the game (yet?), so I don't see how they're going to keep people from losing interest after a week.
The game doesn't come out for 7 months what the fuck
so there's almost nothing forcing you to play as a team.
Also this is wrong. There's far too much synergy to be had for that to be true. You can't just single-handedly win a game by yourself, trust me, I've tried many times.
That doesn't exist in this game, so there's basically no incentive to increase your skills. I don't see any problem with not having any of that. Tf2 didn't have any of it at the start and CS:S never had it and they had triving communities. What these game had however, and what might just kill Overwatch by not having it, is community server. I played a shitload of TF2, and the primary reason I actually came back every week was because I could go on a community server with other regulars and fun people. Even more because everybody there spoke french and came from the same province, so we could talk local news and politics. I mean, you know the deal: sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name...
OK, this game is fun. But it's not $40 fun.
There's absolutely zero competitiveness. There's so much chaos that you can pretty much fire randomly and you'll probably get a kill. Every character is completely sufficient on its own (with the exception of healers), so there's almost nothing forcing you to play as a team. The lack of a proper scoreboard was a really stupid decision - scoreboard-topping is what makes shooters fun: Oh, you were last place on your team? Practice more, get better. That doesn't exist in this game, so there's basically no incentive to increase your skills. I think someone should play a game because it's fun and get better at it because they want to get better at it. Not for some epeen on a leader board or a carrot on a stick. I get what you mean though since a lot of people do get bored without unlocks and stuff and that's partly why games like Titanfall weren't able to hold a large playerbase.
Why would you want to get better at something if you don't really have any way to show it? Sure, it's fun, but there's no challenge without a goal (achievements, ranks, top-scores, K/D, whatever). Without a goal to aim for, players are just going to migrate to other, more rewarding games.
Personal satisfaction.
there is a K/D u just cant see other peoples, im sure the score cards at the end will have some sort of meaning soon like earn x time legendary to get x skin or tag
also datamine of probably upcoming features http://www.overpwn.com/news/85-possible-content-teaser-overwatch-strings
Lucio is so fun. What a great character design
