Overwatch - The world needs heroes, and Blizzard needs a TF2 game!

Halloween Mercy skin when?
I love Reaper. He reminds me of cartoon villains like Cobra Commander and Skeletor.
Everyone's all "LOOK AT ALL THOSE BRAND NEW CHARACTERS THEY SHOWED OFF AT THE END" now...
I guarantee the majority of those are just unused concept art. We've only seen the big red armored guy and the sleek white robot before. They're the only one of those bunch I'd expect to be heroes.

Maybe it's old Overwatch Janitors or something. Who else is going to clean the mess?

Viscera Cleanup Detail: Overwatch
Lmao that xbox exclusive premiere
They are trying really hard but console overwatch is going to be as dead as console tf2 and csgo, its just not happening
You do realize that consoles are going to make up the vast majority of Overwatch's sales, right?

Indeed. At this point, there are about three more pre-launch characters to put in from the looks of it. We've got six Offence and Defence, but only five Tanks and four Supports, so it's probably safe to say that the red armour guy will be Tank no 6, and the sleek white robot will probably be one of the new Supports.
It's like someone took Excalibur from Warframe and squished him into an orange

A ton of those are very blatantly scrapped versions of other heroes.

They strike me more as holdover concept art from the game's MMO days.
Seeing those etc. Overwatch guys makes me think they could possible make a "create a soldier" class.
All I wanna know is when will we get our Canadian grizzly bear themed hero. Seems like every other western country has one.
Since the thread has some attention, here's a player pov of a high level game.

Pretty crazy.

That was amazing but goddamn i never realised how annoying Tracer is and there were 2 of them.
That was scary
but amazing
i hope i dont run into any of these teams
You know, I've heard talk that Overwatch needs more modes, and I agree with that sentiment. People have brought up Capture the Flag as an easy example, but apparently if you do that then that'd make super-mobile heroes OP and leave slower heroes in the dust.
I dunno if that's a problem or a matter of choosing the right roles, since a Tracer Rush might become dominant strat in such a mode, but maybe to curtail the risk of [Tracer Rush OP in CTF], perhaps the flag could be not a flag, but something volatile yet valuable? Something that you need to bring back to base, BUT it poses a real danger to you?
I remember one guy saying maybe the flag could be plutonium that hurts you, but one thought I had was that maybe the "flag" could be a BOMB. A spin on the plutonium idea would be that it gradually builds up some sort of "hazard" meter so that you couldn't hold it for too long or you'd start taking gnarly damage over time, but your "hazard limit" would be tied to your max health, meaning that while agile heroes could get it somewhere quickly but have to drop it to shake off the hazard, the more buff (yet slower) heroes could hold onto it for longer before having to drop it.
As for the bomb idea, it'd revolve around the "package" being rigged with a bomb, which in turn is linked to a close-range bio-sensor that triggers a countdown when someone picks it up. However due to shoddy coding (in-universe, of course), if the package is dropped and then picked up again, the bomb timer resets. In a way, it'd be kinda like ball games where you're supposed to pass the ball to a nearby team-mate rather than hold onto it the whole way, in that you'd need to keep on passing the package to another teammate to make sure it doesn't blow up in your hands, making for a tense and complex spin on getting the flag home safely.
Hell, maybe both versions could work?
I think the simplest solution would just be to make movement-based abilities force you to drop the flag.
could make them x% less effective as well/instead
I was thinking that, but that'd kinda make said mobility heroes less viable and less desirable in that mode. Plus it'd be kinda fun to toss the package back and forth between you and your teammate as you make a mad dash back to base.
But then again, Spies can't be cloaked or disguised when they interact with objectives in TF2, and apparently Widowmaker isn't super-viable on King of the Hill modes, so maybe you're right.

A hot potato-kinda deal sounds like it could be really fun, but I'd see it being better if you had to "score" against an enemy with it or even maybe just random points all over the map, one activating after another has been used.
I still think that there only being two characters at launch who are Omnic despite the entire backstory being based around them is weird as hell.
I honestly don't think this game needs any gimmicky gamemode nonsense like Call of Duty has to maintain it's uniqueness.
All of the gamemodes seem pretty simplistic and have no sense of innovation.
At least the upcoming DOOM is mixing it up a bit with on-the-move control point and Freeze Tag.
Even Call of Duty have some pretty interesting gamemodes like basketball (Uplink) and Kill Confirmed.
More gamemodes aren't needed if the game is good. Counter-Strike has been one of the most popular competitive games for coming up on 20 years now and 90% of the playerbase only plays Demo. MOBAs, Starcraft, Fighting Games, they've all been going just as long or longer and even less people play the alternate modes. Hell, in MOBAs people only play the gamemode on the map, and fighting games the map differences are exclusively cosmetic. Doom and CoD have lots of gamemodes to make up for the lack of diversity in ordinary gameplay. Adding more gimmicky gamemodes like Kill Confirmed with no real substance willy nilly would just detract from what makes the game great in the first place. See: TF2, the game Overwatch is largely inspired by, the only gamemodes worth playing are CP, and Payload, and in some cases KOTH. All CTF, Arena, PLR, etc serve to do is split the community. They're mildly entertaining for a short time but then no matter what you always go back to playing CP/PL/KOTH, even then, mostly the former two.
The game should be fine with just a few modes as long as the game has really iconic maps.
Examples in other games being dust 2, nuketown, dustbowl, 2fort, etc.
If the game doesn't have any maps that really stand out, it becomes a pool of "meh" (depends on the game though, gungame for example is fine with whatever map)

I've put so many hours into tf2's badwater.
