I started playing Kanes Wrath again recently, but god damn everyone online is so good I think I've only won like 10 out of 100 games.
Yeah I know what you mean. These people are like on a separate plane of existence.
The only way for me to play KW is to play on Brutal with 95% handicap
been like this long ago

That's how it is with basically every old RTS.
And every new RTS if we're being honest here.
OpenRA recently got a new stable release. Also, some new visual effects have been implemented in-engine, leading to some modders making stuff like this:

Those are incredible, how long has this guy been holding out on us to have the assets for these?

I'm guessing he was just waiting for an engine to put this stuff in. Above is concept art, he already had it all.
God damn, that last GDI CNC95 mission is a nightmare. I'm pretty terrible at Tiberian Dawn, so it took me a good two hours of hair-pulling frustration to finally knock out that bastard Kane.
Also, I've started the Nod campaign, and I forgot how short and succinct the Nod briefings were with Seth. A GDI intro to a mission took a good two minutes, while Nod just gives you a twenty-second rundown of what's what. Thanks Seth.

Seth does start becoming a bit jealous that Kane likes you so much. He[sp]eventually sends you on a suicide mission[/sp]before Kane[sp]comes out of fucking nowhere and puts a bullet in his dome[/sp]

I think 8-Bit Armies is somewhat related here because of ex-C&C studio

As well as playing much like the classic C&C games, the game's full of references too.
During the campaign: the first general is General Seth, then General Slivak (Reference to Anton Slavik) and the final enemy general is General Kain. The AI names in skirmish are mostly references too.

If KW multiplayer interests you, there's a channel on youtube called Green_Zero that has a ton of vods of KW matches with commentation. I actually have it subscribed even though I never played KW multiplayer since the game is pretty fun to watch.

I'll check it out, thanks!

Sure as shit better be some Carville reference in there. They consistently had maps named after him before.

Yeah I like watching more than playing too, since playing is so hard.

I always get my ass whopped in KW :v:
I wish CNC type rts's weren't dead. Everyone is doing big macro management games with none of the middle level play that the command and conquer games had

I've always thought a sort of Civ/CNC hybrid would be interesting, combining large strategy and "faction" management, but individual tiles would play out like CNC. Perhaps being able to do some abstract battlefield management from the high level along the lines of "build a barracks, refinery, and factory on this tile, and move some units to garrison this tile", and actual combat instances play like CNC.

So... Star Wars, Empire at War, or at least Emperor: Battle for Dune?
I quite enjoyed Kane's Wrath's Global Conquest mode and wish that it could've been expanded.

There's been a handful of attempts by people to make a CnC style RTS but most of them recently haven't been very good or at best mediocre.

reminds me very much of the War of The Worlds pc game from the 90's, very good game
you'd move your squads through the map of britain like in the screenshot and actions were done in a more traditional RTS view, such as placing your defenses and buildings
[t]http://assets1.ignimgs.com/1999/01/23/wow015-100069_320w.jpg[/t]
when you invaded an area or an area was invaded then you'd be in a rts style with the units you have on the tile. it was pretty fucking neato

if you wanna know more or maybe you want some help finding a copy just PM me, i've played the game loads and have a fix for the game on my dropbox
Fuck yeah I think I have the discs for that somewhere.
I fucking sucked at it though, so always holed up in one sector with aliums and feebly tried to expand and got the shit kicked in for the effort.
Fucking loved it.
Now there is something I'm very happy to see.
apparently

has released all the old CNC games free, though i don't think the campaigns are quite right, i tested tiberium sun firestorm and it didn't workout well at all, not to mention the video files are somehow 1gig (10x larger than the game!)
they claim to have multiplayer implimented for every one of the supported games though

I've been using their client to play Red Alert 2 multiplayer and it's working pretty good, easy to set up too.

You'll have to buy red alert 2 & yuri's revenge from the EA store though
Still I'm kind of sad that I can play a game like factorio which looks a lot like CnC games but I can't find any games like CnC made on modern hardware. Like fuck, factorio can handle like a million things on screen without even a slight frame dip, imagine what you could do with unit spam from CNC today
I quite enjoyed Kane's Wrath's Global Conquest mode and wish that it could've been expanded.
Conquest mode was really interesting and really fun, someone should really make a full game based on that concept alone. Would be interesting if you could enter a semi-persitent world and control actual territories
A RTS like factorio would be hype as fuck
