The Sims Megathread - Come on in! The house is on fire but it's ok. Have you seen my basement?

I thought they couldn't add pools in 4?
EA, giving away free content? Time to go see people complain about it on the internet.
After trying to do that loft approach for my house, can we also get that worked in to the engine please?
Also, Careers? Do they just mean more of them or is that going to be a major change to them somehow?
On that, is there a way to go back through a career after completing it and play through the other path? Like if I go through the "Tech Start Up" branch of the Tech Guru career, is it possible to go back and do it again in the "Gamer" branch?
No expansions just patches, have ea learned?
TS4's future is looking really promising. I'm thinking maybe some of the things that weren't in the base game might have been time constraints.
Shit my self for a minute because it had a trailer I tohught it was DLC.

Idea: increase potency if whims. So far I have mostly ignored the whims of my sims because they're only worth 50 points or something. Maybe if they were more substantial I'd actually want to do some of them.

I thought about this to but the rewards for the whims are also a lot cheaper compared to the lifetime rewards from 3.

I do wish they ALL had expiry time though and not just the moodlet one.

You kind of can do lofts already. I just don't get why we can't delete individual floor tiles in an upper story room and see the room beneath it.
I'm excited to see what careers are. Hoping for the old careers like law enforcement or business.
They certainly are good at generating hype.

Build a room around it, delete floor tile, and then deconstruct the room manually. If you just delete the walls the floor will show back up.
think building a room then deleting the room also works

Sadly it's bullshit.
It's a business model. The longer people play the game the more likely they are to spend money on it in the future.
After a month people start drifting from The Sims a bit more and they'd usually throw out an expansion pack to make some money and bring people back. Problem they've had in past years is after a couple of expansions people get tired of spending so much money on virtual content and slowly the player base drops off. Expansion packs sales slow down, even when the madly announce 3 at once. Sims 4 then gets announced.
You need to keep people playing by giving them free shit. It makes you look good as a company at the same time and if you look good as a company people throw their money at you (See Valve). But it would be mad to give away free content. EA can't afford that shit.
Solution: Cut features from the game at launch. Put them back in later
Result: People thinl you've done something for them for free. They play longer thus creating a need for even more content. They like you. Then drop expansion packs and paid content packs.
People will start overlooking the fact they're paying for shit that should've been there from Day 1 if you pepper it with good news and free stuff (that won't cost you anything to give away).
As long as they keep in peoples minds for as long as they can, keep people playing and have a backlog of stuff that should've been there at launch (IE: any information at all about the disappearing Mac version). It's just a business strategy. Sims 3 had a terrible one ("QUICK SELL THEM MORE THINGS") and they want Sims 4 to last a bit longer ("Give them something nice. Like that? Wanna buy this other nice thing? Only if you want to, we'll give you more free things").
If it was always planned to be put into the game, just had time constraints, they would've said from day 1. Instead of sheepishly saying "oh but it's so much hard impossible work to put it in- oh wait we did it aren't we good?".
so basically according to you their nefarious plan is 'make people like our game so that they'll buy expansions and shit'
damn nigga I think you got these bastards good
Your title is very fitting, Dan.
You just can't please some people. No matter what they do it's an evil scheme. "Sell expansions? How dare they!?" "Release free content? HOW DARE THEY!?"
The question you have to ask yourself is does it really matter? If you like the games then play them, if you don't then why are you even here?
Sadly it's bullshit.

"paying for shit that should've been there from day 1"? says who?
[editline]2nd October 2014[/editline]
like seriously this is F R E E D L C that we all know EA could have made us pay for. Everyone was making the same fucking joke that 'pools and toddlers dlc' would be released day one- Instead, we get pools for free.
maybe it's a marketing scheme to make people play the game more but if it's in the form of free stuff for players what's the fucking problem
He's complaining that EA is using cut content to manipulate their company image. It is suspicious given how they said that pools were impossible (obvious BS) previously.
Ultimately, I don't plan on buying any DLC for this game. I'm not going to complain about the free content, regardless of whatever the reason it was cut previously, though.

Good thing they didn't say that, then.
Seriously, they never said pools were impossible. They said pools wouldn't ship with the final product because it was either releasing it now or delaying it when they could just patch it in later.
I'm not sure where people keep getting this "Pools were impossible" thing. they never said that at all.

It isn't the action itself that he is critising. It is the motive behind it.
I don't think the thought "Lets give the players something for free because we're good people" has ever crossed the minds of the CEO of any company even remotely the size of EA. If any of them have ever done anything the motive behind it was making money, and had nothing to do with being evil for evil's sake or being nice to anybody.
I'm sorry if I'm coming off as antagonistic or something, and I'm not defending EA. But of course the motive isn't anything other than manipulating people into giving them money, what else would it be? It's not just EA that works this way, it's literally any business that has ever existed.
