It isn't the action itself that he is critising. It is the motive behind it.
yeah, but honestly, who cares about the motive as long as the content we get is quality stuff? it's not like they're trying to push us a NISSAN BRAND NISSAN LEAF (TM) CHARGING STATION like they did with simcity '13 honestly, yeah, probably this is all just an attempt to get back the goodwill they lost on SC '13 but you know what? I honestly don't give a damn, as long as we get quality content. I mean, they're a business. Their #1 goal is making sweet stacks of $$$. Why should I care about that, as long as the way they go about it is also beneficial to me, the consumer?
Seems like they were kinda forced into releasing it for free.. Glad to see they're paying attention to their fans.
I'm not sure where people keep getting this "Pools were impossible" thing. they never said that at all.
It's the EA Hate Bandwagon. Are you really surprised?
yeah, but honestly, who cares about the motive as long as the content we get is quality stuff?
It's bigger than that. The companies will always be testing the limits as in how much further they can go with ripping off customers, before they stop paying. Maximizing profit is today's mantra.
Seems like they were kinda forced into releasing it for free.. Glad to see they're paying attention to their fans.
Nobody gives a fuck what the people want, unless it starts affecting the sales. EA has been fucking up their reputation a lot lately, if they'd start charging for pools, everybody would tear them apart. I couldn't care less about pools, but why did they cut out such a minor and easy-to-do thing (can't be much harder than fountains at least) out of the base game? They probably wanted to ship it in as a part of another pricy expansion pack or worse thing like the Katy Perry's stuff DLC. CoD games have been pulling this off for years with their absurd "map-packs", so why not us? Huge game-developing companies aren't presided by players, but numbers and graphs.
Pools aren't as easy to make as you think they are, there's a lot of coding involved, they also need to create several new animations.
Nothing's easy and everything requires coding. Pools have been a part of base game since TS2, I believe. It's not like they're doing it from scratch, which is why I call bullshit on this whole free stuff thing. It's the people actually believing EA does this out of good heart, that make me upset.

FUCKING FREE STUFF, make me pay for it ea you d-bags
Sadly it's bullshit. It's a business model. The longer people play the game the more likely they are to spend money on it in the future. After a month people start drifting from The Sims a bit more and they'd usually throw out an expansion pack to make some money and bring people back. Problem they've had in past years is after a couple of expansions people get tired of spending so much money on virtual content and slowly the player base drops off. Expansion packs sales slow down, even when the madly announce 3 at once. Sims 4 then gets announced. You need to keep people playing by giving them free shit. It makes you look good as a company at the same time and if you look good as a company people throw their money at you (See Valve). But it would be mad to give away free content. EA can't afford that shit. Solution: Cut features from the game at launch. Put them back in later Result: People thinl you've done something for them for free. They play longer thus creating a need for even more content. They like you. Then drop expansion packs and paid content packs. People will start overlooking the fact they're paying for shit that should've been there from Day 1 if you pepper it with good news and free stuff (that won't cost you anything to give away). As long as they keep in peoples minds for as long as they can, keep people playing and have a backlog of stuff that should've been there at launch (IE: any information at all about the disappearing Mac version). It's just a business strategy. Sims 3 had a terrible one ("QUICK SELL THEM MORE THINGS") and they want Sims 4 to last a bit longer ("Give them something nice. Like that? Wanna buy this other nice thing? Only if you want to, we'll give you more free things"). If it was always planned to be put into the game, just had time constraints, they would've said from day 1. Instead of sheepishly saying "oh but it's so much hard impossible work to put it in- oh wait we did it aren't we good?".
Videogames have changed. It's no longer about fun, being good to consumers, or catering to me and my impossible standards that are only lenient when a non-triple A developer makes my game. It's an endless series of DLC made by casuals and PHONE GAMES. Games - and its consumption of FUN - has become a well-oiled machine. VIDEOGAMES have changed. DRM-tagged gamers use DRM-tagged accounts (like steam but I don't complain about that lol), use DRM-tagged games. Nanomachines inside their videogames enhance and regulate how many copies they sell. Fun control. Journalism control. Advertisement control. DLC control. Everything is monitored and kept under control. Videogames have changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control...All in the name of SELLING MORE VIDEOGAMES to people who might not be me. And he who controls the videogames...controls everything I care about on the internet. Videogames have changed. When the GAMES are under total control...GAMES becomes routine [editline]3rd October 2014[/editline] wow i had way too much fun writing this anyways check out these demon children i discovered that just crouched down next to each other reading books in the middle of the sidewalk
no shit? again, they're a business. nobody does anything out of the kindness of their heart, be it free content updates or steam sales or whatever.
That's what I said.
I couldn't care less about pools, but why did they cut out such a minor and easy-to-do thing (can't be much harder than fountains at least) out of the base game?
Probably because they were under a tight deadline and figured they'd rather have more new features in the game than old ones. Honestly, regardless of what happened, people like you would complain. Old feature's not in right away? They're cutting the things that make the Sims, well, the Sims. Focus on adding in old features? The series is stagnant, they should've added in new features! There's no winning.
"Hey guys! Remember that thing everybody was complaining wasn't in Sims 4 but was in every other Sims? They're putting it in the game with a free patch!" "HOW DARE THEY DO WHAT WE WANTED!?"
So I finally got the chance to play The Sims 4, and I don't know, but it just felt...boring. Like, there was the potential to do much more with what they had. The emotions system seems really neat, but it's way too easy to affect emotions. All you need to become inspired is a "thoughtful shower". All you need to have positive emotions is to fill your needs. Sims' wishes seem repetitive and just don't offer that much incentive. Leaving your home lot is way more trouble than it's worth. And I REALLY don't like how you can't look at a Sim's needs/relationships/skills when he or she is at work or school. It feels like for everything new they added, they took out three features I liked from older Sims games. Multitasking is wonderful, but that's just about the only new thing I really like.

I was referring to EA's policy and how gullible people are. I don't like when people completely miss the point, people like you.

Is the kid in the front Harry Potter?
Oh my god grow the fuck up and just enjoy the fucking video game. Entitled children.
Oh my god grow the fuck up and just enjoy the fucking video game. Entitled children.
There go people using that word again like they know what it means. No on is acting entitled, they're acting retarded.
[t]http://puu.sh/bXHKo/96cd221eb6.png[/t]
Are you playing as Joseph Joestar?

I remember fondly when I first booted the game, and my evil twin yelled at me, making my sim storm off and kick a bin over whilst my evil twin sat inside happily eating pancakes. But a few hours into the game and the emotion system just becomes another thing you can manipulate to your own whim. Kind of dissapointing.
Are you playing as Joseph Joestar?
He has a whole house of Jojo's.
i tried hosting a party but apparently the only toilet in the house didn't work so everyone pissed themselves and went home. it was ok
Speaking of toilets and parties, I went to the museum to find this: [t]http://i.imgur.com/dz9zcEI.jpg[/t]
I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem but when I try to use Color Magic, even before the ghost update broke it according to the creator, it would never properly let me modify clothing items or anything along that line. Anybody have any ideas?
Man, I think I spend more time looking at other peoples stuff on the gallery than playing the game.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/3qf8enW.jpg[/t] This dumb chick approached me with two drinks in her hands. I though "Hey nice, she bought me a drink!". Nope. She drank both of them herself.
So... Apparently I can't use ModTheSims at all. I made a fresh new account and it says I have no permission to access any pages on it... Something about them banning a whole range of IPs for... some reason? [editline]13th October 2014[/editline] Anyone else have this issue? Whenever I'm logged in every page is: [t]http://i.imgur.com/cOVbUOi.jpg[/t] I cant even get in contact with an admin or anything to get it fixed.
'some reason' for IP ranges typically means someone was changing their IP assignment to evade bans this person must live near you
So if I find him and kill him all will be good?
How is this game compared to the previous games? I might actually try it out at some point.
