The Sims Megathread - Come on in! The house is on fire but it's ok. Have you seen my basement?
So what I can gather is that this will be sorta like the Nightlife expansion for Sims 4... That kinda sucks. When it comes to clubbing in these games I want a big ugly city again, not some hipster European town.
Latenight was always my favourite expansion pack. Not for vampires or celebrities or any of that bs, but for the city and apartments.
I think Get Together is going to be one of the poorer expansions for Sims 4, it adds nothing that people want or need. Sims interacting with each other was already one of the strongest parts of 4 and it didn't need expanding.
I'd recommend a concrete sidewalk around the edge of the pool and towards the house
Like i said before. I'd always spend way too much time diddling around with crazy ideas, before i'd even settle for something that had a chance to look good, before i'd ever get around to finalize and giving it finishing touches.
Feels awful man.

I was never really a fan of the social aspect of the sims too.
Parties are kinda a nuisance to manage since you got 20 sims running around eating your shit and shitting where you eat. And I hardly had any friends except for 2 or 3 people since talking to other sims was always a bit of a waste of time
And I never brought my sims out of the house because they didn't have a lot of time to go out because of their job (especially in Sims 3 since community and home lots share the same time), or they couldn't stay out long since their needs are only really able to be satisfied at home.
And of course going out to bars was a gigantic waste of a free saturday when my sim could be learning new skills

i must sound like such a loser
[editline]21st August 2015[/editline]
doesn't help that i'm playing a game that's meant to simulate someone else's life
[editline]21st August 2015[/editline]
i assure you my social life is well and good
After my sim just quit his slacker job, and moved to a more adventurous Daredevil job he already got a promotion on day one working as a Daredevil.. I guess my sim is a natural risk taker if one was to get promoted that fast.
What's the general conscious on Sims 3 + DLCs vs Sims 4 + DLCs?
How do they compare to the Sims 2? Sims 2 is what I have the most play time on
Sims 3 + DLC obviously has a lot more content. Only problems I have with Sims 3 are the god awful loading times and the fact that everybody looks like a potato baby.
[editline]22nd August 2015[/editline]
I can't give a fair comparison between 3 & 4 though since I bought 3 when all the EPs were already released, so by my view, 3 looked to have more content base game than 4 did to begin with.
3 and 4 on a base level are more a sidegrade of eachother. They both excel in their own ways.
However, if you're going on the basis of 3+DLC vs. 4+DLC, then 3 by virtue of having more complete content released currently.

If you're like me and you have your sims sit in the house all day you'll probably enjoy 4's features more than 3's.
Although tbh I'd just stop playing the sims for now and wait for all of 4's EPs to come out before picking it up.
IMO it always feels like a waste of time when you're playing a game that's so clearly 'unfinished'. You know all this content is coming out (even the basic stuff like toddlers are probaby coming back in an EP) so why get tired of the game before you've even fully experienced it?
I'm going to hold off on the Sims 4 for a while and just play Sims 2, I like some of the content of Sims 2 and it's what I grew up with, plus while the sims may look like shit they at least don't look like downies like in the Sims 3
Sims in sims 3 look soooooo bad I can't stand it, I played around with the character creator for Sims 4 and it's such a vast improvement over the sims 3

Man that reminds me of sims 2 apartment life, I wish they would bring it back, it was such a cool feature, which in case with the sims 4 neighborhood system could be interesting, because you wouldn't have to load in all the different apartment rooms.

Sims 2 still remains my favorite, felt more like a 3d sims 1 and less like a weird solo mmo like s3 and s4
I don't understand what's up with the S4's neighborhoods.
They load in your lot and like the surrounding other 4 lots which (I'm assuming, I haven't played it myself) you can navigate over to them with the camera and move around the whole lot, but then to enter those lots you gotta go through a loading screen? Why not just do the S2 style of loading 1 lot at a time.
I love how you can count on the sims for some very weird/funny moments.

This is Uncle Manny, he is feared as he is known to seemingly stalk people and show up out of seemingly nowhere, his favorite hobby is eating cereal.

Everyone kept walking into the bathroom on this poor guy while he was trying to talk on the phone and then suddenly this happened.

The guy in the bed (known as Big Bob) keeps smashing the dude's (known as Candy Kyle) dollhouse. This particular time Big Bob smashed the dollhouse and when straight to sleep in the Candy Kyle's bed. They do not get along, if you couldn't tell.

This is Dr. Charles Pangalos, a world famous scientist, but for all the wrong reasons. He is known to have his experiments fail horribly and only very few have ever ended well. If there is something horrifying and unnatural, chances are he is to blame for it.

His latest experiment is one in solitary confinement, needless to say it is quite disturbing.
I hope The Sims 4 gets a Late Night expansion soon
I need clubbing and drunkenly turning in to a vampire c'mon
So has anyone actually gotten The Sims 3 to run really well on high settings?
I'm building a new PC in a few months. 6600K, GTX 980, 32 Gigs of ram -- I'm a huge after effects/avid/photoshop/premiere guy. I can't help but firmly believe that TS3 is still going to run like garbage on a fucking system like that
I think the Sims 3's biggest problem isn't its performance, but it's load times. I've heard it takes a couple minutes for people to just load up the hairs in Create-A-Sim when you've got all the content.
[editline]11th September 2015[/editline]
And I'd rather not download a 25gb game and then find out that it takes 30 minutes to load up a save and the sims looks like trash.
Which is a shame because I really want to get into the Sims 3

Not a few minutes. Maybe 15-30 seconds

It doesn't actually take that long. Maybe 5 minutes to completely load in to the game -- longer of course if your save files are huge, you've edited the town a bunch, or how many EP/SPs you have installed
The content and systems of The Sims 3 are amazing. The best of any Sims game, in my opinion. But it feels like a lot of the game could have worked better with simple fixes. The "empty bar" problem could have just been solved by causing near by Sims to flock in to whatever place you visited, for instance.
One of the larger things that bogged down performance was Create A Style, and that's because it wasn't just a Saturation slider/Color wheel, it always ran in the background of the game, had to dynamically apply certain patterns to stuff, and was applicable to every single fucking object. If they just replaced that with a color wheel and saturation slider in Create A Sim, few people would have actually given a shit and it would have made the game perform that much better.

I'm mostly referring to the load times when you have all EPs installed.
Also, never knew that about Create A Style. That's honestly kind of fucked up and I don't even really use Create A Style.
I've started down the long road of mastering every skill in the sims 3. Right now I've got cooking, athletic, painting, and working on Alchemy
I can't stand to play Sims 4 anymore.
It just isn't fun or entertaining to play.
Why, instead of making advancements in technology and shit, they basically went backwards?
The only two things that stand out is the CAS (which is really limited with the lack of content) and the multitasking.

Thanks to NRAAS, assholes like me can just turn left off the long road, and straight off the cliff into having them all mastered in no time :downs:

Protip - Always remember to backup your, shit before you go insane with NRAAS.
What mods do you guys usually use for Sims 3, besides standard Nraas stuff?
Trying to make my game a little more interesting and difficult.

As a baseline for Sims 3, when i'm going to bother getting into it the next time, i prefer to use Overwatch and NRAAS's Errortrap. Just to give the game a little performance boost.
And unless 'standard Nraas stuff' doesn't include StoryProgression, then StoryProgression. I guess that one is good for making the game interesting.
Fuck dude I remember playing The Sims 3 all night one night and it crashing after 8 straight hours

I like the story progression mod, the popups get annoying after a while but it's still pretty good.
But yeah, looking for stuff other than Nraas stuff

Can't you already do that with testingcheatsenabled true and buydebug?
