The Sims Megathread - Come on in! The house is on fire but it's ok. Have you seen my basement?

So I've come to the conclusion that if I tried to type out all the features for each Sims 3 ex pack it would take up an ungodly amount of space. Anyone have a better solution? Should I just link LGR videos?
Just link the LGR videos, they summarize the expansions pretty well.
Also, put a warning in the OP about Showtime and how it's the worst expansion made for anything ever, and that you should not buy or play it under any circumstances.
Maybe.
Nope. Might be the fullmoon, he freaked out and he did that.
It's the full moon, you see he has the 'Lunacy' perk thing. It makes them do crazy shit.

Neat, street art/graffiti options have been added.

What's wrong with showtime?

Oh the nostalgia!
Found this while digging around on the Sims Wiki
Launching this fall is an all-new stuff pack that is filled with clothing and décor inspired by iconic movie themes and settings. Additionally this fall, Sims will finally be able to travel to the future in an all-new expansion pack, currently untitled. More details will be revealed in the coming months, but Sims will certainly have the time of their lives this year with the offerings from The Sims 3.

A time travel/futuristic expansion sounds nifty.

Its amazing how some of the trailers for older Sims games contained no actual gameplay. The Sims Online trailer for example.

Whoa, whoa, hold the fuck up.
I just heard that not only will the official TS2 site get taken down on the 14th, but so will all possible ways to purchase the game online. (ie Origin)
If that's true, what the fuck

Taking it off online services seems like the most useless thing to do. It surely isn't hard to just keep it there.
They are doing it to force people to buy Sims 3 which is silly because If people really want to play Sims 2 they will download it illegally instead of buying Sims 3.
I don't know why you'd need to be encouraged to get 3. The encouragement is in the basic gimmick, there's no longer five minute loading screens whenever you want to go anywhere.
Does the Sims 3 have a mod to slow down how fast your 'needs' decrease? The reason I could never get into Sims is because my Sim couldn't do much because he always had a need that needed to be filled. By the time I got them all good to go, the whole in-game day was gone, and I had to sleep, for I had work, then during sleeping Hunger and Bathroom dropped and fuck. I'll just build houses until I'm bored instead!
Of course there's always the cheat to keep them filled, but then Sims don't do anything but stand around, because they don't have anything that needs to be done, and makes for a boring game

There is an NRaas mod called Relativity which changes the flow of time. Makes days longer so you can get more stuff done.

SPEAKING OF MODS! I finished the mod section and the OP is pretty much done, bar finding symmetrical logos and anything people want to add to it because I missed something.
One thing that's always bugged me about The Sims games is that all three games have the same exact expansion packs. All three games have the Pets expansion, the business expansion, the vacation expansion, etc, etc. It's obvious they're just milking the consumers who are willing to pay for it, but the fact that they rerelease the same exact "new content" with every iteration kind of seems to imply that most of it should have simply been included from the start!
Well yeah, but the difference is the expansions have to cover extra content for the new base gameplay. I didn't own any TS2 expacks so TS3 + expacks for me was worth it.

Are you using a mod to get these slider values? Because that's silly as fuark.
The newer expansions have more content & features than the old ones, the Sims 3 university expansion is a lot larger than the Sims 2 version for example.
Is it?
The game isn't out for another two months, how could you possibly know that?

I'm not using a mod! This is the vanilla EP.

You can always check the wiki for stuff that is the same/new/removed from Sims 3 ex packs. Most of the stuff that is "removed" is generally stuff that worked exclusive to The Sims 2 while a lot of the new stuff is catered to The Sims 3 systems.

imo expansions from previous games that are core aspects of life (IE, Pets, Vacation, College) should be included. Some of the more specific ones like "supernatural" they can rerelease.

Ye, pretty much how I feel on the matter! Core gameplay experiences should be included from the get-go, especially if they were already established in the previous games. I'm pretty much okay with having ten or fifteen dollar "stuff packs," with a bunch of new stuff to play with, but I don't think that should include things like basic weather mechanics (IE- a $30 expansion pack for seasonal changes).
I'm all for paid expansion packs if they actually add something new and substantial. Like, I'd cough up twenty bucks for a space mod, or something, that let me build moon bases and then sabotage the life support systems (because killing your Sims in creative ways is really what this game boils down to).
Honestly, buying ex packs doesn't bug me because I don't think I've ever bought one for more than half of what it normally is.

I don't regret buying the three stuff packs I have. High-end loft stuff has so much cool modern furniture...
