The Sims Megathread - Come on in! The house is on fire but it's ok. Have you seen my basement?
Quick, guys, how do I make my sims act 100% independently? I hardly play the game, but I got the idea to leave the sims to do whatever the fuck they want while I slept and I want to wake up and see the hole they dug themselves.
Please post results.
After seeing the character creator and how building works, I have this sneaking suspicion that they're going to be putting this on tablets, and that means it's going to be dumbed down

Could you expand on the building part a bit? I feel like the character creator has been the way it is largely since Sims 2 at least, also while I feel like building hasn't changed much either. I know originally they were really pushing for laptops (A lot of the sims 2 life stories games contain enhancements for laptops, like a battery monitor), so maybe EA will be focusing on tablets more...
It was basically 2 click building entire rooms, and even an entire second story + balcony + roof. Rather than wall placement, it's just room size.
I'm sure there's still the same ol' customization for building, but for it to also been simplified to that extent as well means they have to be going for Touchpads/Tablets
Honestly I don't think the lack of sliders are dumbing it down at all, I like being able to define every little feature of a sim. I also think that construction being simpler is good as well. I like custom houses but usually by the time I finish building them I'm done with a sims session
Okay not really because I could play the sims forever but seriously, constructing houses in 3 takes stupidly long
My brother and I created a Sims Deathmatch.
1. Make two teams of 4 Sims each. Free Will turned off.
2. Create a map with 8 pistols from this mod.
3. At the start of the round, one looks away as the other maps out where their Sims move to grab guns.
4. Both players then take 45 second turns moving Sims about the map. Taking a shot ends the turn.
5. Last team standing wins.
There was an issue where they all clustered together to mourn the death of a Sim.
I find Sims 3 to be horribly optimized on high-end PC's
i5 2500k
660ti
10gb ram
SSD
Yet it freezes left right and centre

Shoulda went for the i7! :v:

I hope you're kidding right?
Had this CPU since 2012, and overclocked it to 4.5ghz since with an Evo 212. My laptop has an i7-4700hq (or something along the lines of that), with a 765m and 2 x 128gb SSD's and has the same problem

Yeah, I was just kidding. Sims 3 does seem horribly slow sometimes for no apparent reason, so I do think EA/Maxis still has some work to do on the optimization front.
I doubt they'll do much for Sims 3 at this point as it's not in their best interests financial wise as they're still raking in the cash regardless, and lower end PC's seem to have less problems ironically on S3.
So hopefully optimization will be done better in Sims 4 (New engine too maybe?)
They release paid expansions packs made by themselves that are still full of routing issues which cause glitches and lag. Makes no sense to me.
You know what I really miss?
EA Land/Sims Online.
EA Land/Sims Online.
As little as I had played it back then, it was the stuff. Totally awesome. I think it's kind of surprising how much EA is missing out, if anything, by monetizing micro-transactions in what could be a sort of MMORPG like that game used to be.
If they incorporated an online mode to Sims 4 then I'd be so so happy. They did say there will be online elements but knowing my luck it'll be social pay2win aspects.

Exceptionally expensive ones too.

I voiced much the same suspicions back on page 16, but there it was about the weird visual style too.
Oh yeah, i just remembered what i came in here to ask about.
I remember that shit, where your sims3 game, would begin to stutter and freeze and stuff like that. Some sort of memory crap.
And i also remember i asked about it, but that's way back in my posting history, it's way past the 5 page limit.
Could anyone recall the utilities/programs/mods that would optimize the game, and prevent the game running like shit?

Overwatch is one, I think
I remember playing the tutorial level in the sims 2, I've killed the tutorial dozens guy of times :v:
I've killed the tutorial dozens guy of times :v:
I've also wanted to get the tutorial neighborhood as a playable one, and I think you can do that now.
Here's hoping The Sims 4 isn't an unoptimized mess like 3, though there are some stuff to help out with freezing and what not, like Master Controller, Overwatch, World Fixes and so on, World Fixes seem to help out the most.
It kills me how long it takes The Sims 3 to load when you start piling in the expansion packs. They can't even implement this crap in a way that doesn't lead to a ten minute load screen every time you start the game?

This is what I find really funny. So I have the Sims 3, a few EPs and some CC and mods all on my SSD. The Sims 3 will take forever to load.
Now, I just recently installed the Sims 2 again. That and all EPs up to and including freetime, plus a few SPs, are stored on a mechanical drive, while my mass of custom content is still stored on my SSD. The thing will have me playing a family in under three minutes tops. It's unbelievable.
Reformatted and now I'm downloading all of the expansions
RIP HDD Space
RIP Load time
I recall having a sim who became rich by picking up stones and selling them, it started as an after-work hobby. I did make it a genie for ease of need management.
It ended around here last time I played:

I want The Sims 2 but Origin doesn't have it, and EBGames only have it in 4 cities over Australia.
They were even having a 10 dollars for 2 games deal, and TS2 was part of it, so I could of gotten an expansion pack for it.
Tho I did find TS1 at a Second hand store and 2 expansion packs for 3 dollars. Never played TS1, TS2 Franchise (Expansion Packs) is my favorite tho, TS3 wasn't that good, hopefully TS4 will be better since Maxis is actually working on it unlike TS3.
Also why is TS3 so slow to load up?

Oh and TS4 will be at E3.

It looks more like Sims 2 imo, which I love because Sims 3 was kinda in the uncanny valley for me.

As long as they don't become MySims I'm fine with it.
I hope we get a supernatural type expansion pretty soon after launch. I'm in the minority but I love Supernatural. At least one sim in every family I make is either a werewolf or Vampire.
I wouldn't count on it. Supernatural always comes near the end of the cycle at around year two.

Yeah :/. I hope they mix it up and give us more versions of expansions we haven't seen that much first instead of doing the vacation expansion and the town themed expansion, and instead doing something like Open for Business or Weather or College first.
I guess you could argue that most of this should just be folded in to the main fucking game (seasons, college, vacations) but y'know, EA.

I'm actually kind of sad that I didn't play around with that stuff more in the Sims 2 nightlife. something to put on the todo list now.
