Oh yes. I had a family that practically lived in their store, selling stuff 24/7.

Gotta go fast.
Shoes aren't 100% but whatever.
It's not possible to include all of that in the base game, not without significantly increasing development time & costs, that or half-assing everything because on top of remaking a game from scratch on a new engine with new mechanics you also have to do twice as much work within your limited development schedule.
If they were just excluding these features solely to make money they would've released them a few months after the base game, instead they spent time working on them and released both of them years after release.
It's not good that every new Sims game includes barely any features and items and you have to buy all the expansions to get them. All the important things get added in expansions which cost quite a lot of money. All 3 games so far have had very similar expansions with very similar features. They've already said weather is unlikely to be included in the game. During development of the Sims 2 they were planning on having weather included, but instead they released the Seasons expansion. It seems as if they just hold back features so they can bundle it in an expansion and get even more money off it just like they did with the previous games. That might not be the case but that's what it seems like.
Other than the new Sims creation tool, what has been mentioned as features for TS4 anyway?
I like the look of the new CAS, sliders piss me off, they're too restrictive.
I hope they show some actual new TS4 feature soon. So far all i've seen mentioned is the new CAS, emotions (which don't even seem that new) and being able to move and edit rooms easily. I want to see some actual new features that don't involve the Sims themselves or the building tools. Weather (even if it was something simple like just rain) was something i was hoping for, but they've already said no to that. It seems like it might just be pretty much the same as the previous games without expansions, again.
What do you expect them to add? They can't add ten expansions worth of content at launch, and any features they do add won't be worth the effort because they won't have enough time to be developed properly.
Weather wasn't included in the Sims 2 because they had an accident during development and most of the game data was lost.
The least they could do is make them cheaper, I can't say I don't feel stupid buying most of them even when they were 50% off for £14.99
I want them to add features that mean the game isn't going back to square 1 again and having all the important features added in expansions that cost almost as much as the base game.
I don't see why anyone would be happy that every new Sims game removes all the content and adds it back in expansions. I'm not saying people can't enjoy the game as it is, but for the past 3 games it has been the same thing: Release a game with very few large improvements over the previous game (other than stuff like graphics), and then release the same few expansions. The only real changes from the Sims 2 to the sims 3 were the open neighborhood, create-a-sim changes and then the rest were all fairly small things. Just look at the list of things that were in the sims 2 that weren't in the sims 3, quite a few of them were only added again in expansions:

I wouldn't expect them to include all the objects, clothing and similar things, just keep the basic features. Add basic rain, snow, seasons etc and then improve on them in a full expansion. Many improvements are added in expansion packs only to be taken out again when the next game is released. I don't think anyone should be happy with that, obviously it would increase cost and development time but they should be trying to improve the game as much as they can, rather than doing all that in expansions. It's a case of “one step forward, two steps back”.
Weather was planned to be included in the Sims 2 but wasn't because of a fire, that's fine. There doesn't seem to be a reason for not having that in the Sims 3 and 4 though, other than they can put it in an expansion and charge money for it.

Did you ever see pictures of the Sims 2 before launch? You may notice something really odd, wanna know what? They had weather long before seasons expansion was released! so you're quite wrong.
This was way before release..

This still exists in the base game, but you should be glad it went unused. It needed a total rewrite due to being half functional and the fact it brought the average 2004 PC to a complete crawl. It wasn't a complete system in time for release.
Wasn't there something about Maxis actually having a legit-hard-drive failure that meant they lost quite a bit of stuff for Sims 2, some of which was the pre-mentioned weather?

I did not know that
You know, I don't even care if TS4 has no new features to speak of. So long as they actually polish the damn code and don't leave memory leaks everywhere like TS3 has I'd be happy.
The new Sims 4 video made me want to play Sims 3 again. So I uninstalled everything, installed it freshly (only the EPs I really need) redownloaded some mods (including nraas_overwatch) and after three hours of preparation and carefully creating my long-term character, I got reminded that it runs like shit.

But are you ready to pay for Pets, Seasons, Late Night, Supernatural, ... again, even if they did it right this time? Also no Create-A-Style is a huge deal breaker if you ask me.

Oh great, something else they'll release as DLC, we might even get lucky and have them release it as a stuff pack.

What an original complaint about The Sims. Haven't heard this one before.
Nobody is forcing you to buy DLC. I love how nobody ever bitches about Borderlands 2's DLC model where they literally sell DLC for other DLC or how Everquest had 14 paid expansions before it went free to play.

Yeah, but Borderlands 2's DLC is generally not $20 for what would be equivalent to some new furniture.
I was legit thinking about buying some of the DLC when I first got TS3, but that thought flew way out the window when I saw that pricing.

Yeah the pricing can be pretty steep, which is why if you are going to buy any of these you need to.
1. Never purchase an expansion unless it goes on sale. The Sims 3 expansions go on sale on Origin fairly often sometimes with deep discounts on older expansions.
2. If it has 'Stuff Pack' in the title don't buy it. These are never worth it unless you get them for free bundled with an actual expansion. Unlike expansions they don't ever include gameplay additions what so ever. These only consist of furnishings or clothing or really gaudy eyebleedingly terrible stuff.
Its a game of patience really. The Sims 3 Store however is a total waste of money, would not recommend.

From 2:31 (3:22 specifically, but it won't make much sense) he talks about the censor blur and the nudity then he jumps to the part when a fire ruined most of the game that resulted in the game almost being remade from scratch (and explains lower graphic quality and options/stuff).

Yeah you're right, nobody is forcing me to buy the DLC, but I'm still going to complain about it even though I'll buy it, people will talk shit about stuff they "hate" but they still end up going with it at some point or another anyway.

Dude that's like cutting your finger with a knife even though you know it'll hurt, and then complaining about how much it hurts
Dude that's like cutting your finger with a knife even though you know it'll hurt, and then complaining about how much it hurts
Well not really, because I wouldn't complain about that because I brought it upon myself, whereas buying DLC after complaining about it's price or content means I've complained, got it out of my system, and then realised, "Actually, I want this."
The Sims 1 just arrived with Vacation and Unleashed expansion packs.
Reinstalled TS2 on my crummy laptop for nostalgia's sake, and I just found it amazing how the Sims 3 is better by leaps and bounds. For one thing, it was crazy how you couldn't keep leftovers in the fridge (at least in the base game though), and how limited Buy/Build mode felt with the grid and all that. Plus, Sims 2's CAS is nothing compared to Sims 3's. Case in point, whereas in TS3 my sims looked different from each other, all my sims in TS2 look exactly the same save for some superficial cosmetic differences. The biggest difference though is the open neighborhood, which is really what sets the two games totally apart. When I went back to the Sims 2, it felt really static and got boring really fast. TS2 came alive with the EPs, but TS3, on its own, was already a great game just because of that.
Though there were some touches in TS2 that I wish they retained in TS3, like how the sims just didn't teleport in and out of cars, or even the chance card dialogs, but it's great to see how the franchise has grown and I can't wait to see what Maxis' has in store for TS4

Don't forget about the slider bug :v:
one thing that irritates me about ts2 is that it doesn't work on windows 8
is there a fix i don't know about, it's been a while since i've tried to install it.

It doesn't work with win 8? Shoot, I just upgraded to it over the weekend... Does windows 8 come with the XP compatibility mode?

No
because the minimum compatibility is with Vista
Sims 2 works fine on Windows 8 provided you update it or install an expansion pack:
