The Sims Megathread - Come on in! The house is on fire but it's ok. Have you seen my basement?
If you want to register The Sims 2 on Origin you need to contact EA Support's live chat reps. You will need your CD keys for any game you want to register so I suggest putting them in a .txt file or something.
The Origin client won't accept the keys but support can add them to your account.
The guy I talked with said he couldn't register it, because it was an old game
He gave me the dubble deluxe thing instead
The ultimate edition is still mine though, cool. Also got 15% discount
My girlfriend and I are going to split $60 in half and buy Sims 4 on GMG.

I'm doing exactly that right now.
Been on the line with the danish staff, 10 minutes of waiting, with fucking disney sort of music blasting my ears to bits.
Still no clue how far ahead i am in the queue...

Oh wow, a ghost just whispered out in the middle of everything while on speaker ... :v:
Would've been nice if they didn't remove Sims 2 from the Origin store a while back.
Two collective fucking hours of waiting on hold, that is just bullshit.
And what's even shittier, is that on the Danish support you only have the option, "Call this number". So i completely ditched the Danish EA support
The UK support - Live chat, get a specialist to call you and call a number.
So since I'm about to redeem it on Origin and will be playing it, does anyone have a solution for my problem?
I can't run the game at my native res of 1920x1200 because of the game being old. I edit the graphicsrule.sgr file to allow it to go up to this res, but then once I load a neighbourhood, clicking anything makes the screen go black. If I alt-tab and go back to the game, it's normal, until I click somewhere again. I have to alt-tab like three times just to click through to change the resolution to make it work normally.
So, is there any way to force 1920x1200 res another way, or is there a fix to this "black screen only upon clicking" problem? It's probably due to the res/system specs being way too new for the game, but it's annoying nonetheless and it worked before.
I assume no one has a spare code they might be willing to part with for $10 or so?
I have The Sims 2 DVD edition and the Sims 2 university expansion pack, do you think EA support will add them to my account if i contact them?

Yes.
Yes.
I will try that, because last time i did contact them about it and the ea support guy said he couldn't, maybe this time they can!
Waited 2 hours last night and didn't get to chat with an EA rep. Let's see if it'll be quicker now that it isn't 4am.
So does getting the email regarding the ultimate edition means you're in the queue to get the game over the next 5 days?
I don't even remember registering my games and I still got the email.

I did it was Battlefield 2 just now, I would think it's the same kinda thing. They'll probably ask you to take a picture of the box and key after you give it to them the first time so they know you actually own the thing.

I had to give the email of the EA account that owned it.
The guy merged my parent's old EA account with my Origin.
Well, never got matched up with a EA support person, and I never got the email others did, but the Ultimate Collection is now on my profile. Time to play.
Does anybody here own The Sims 2 in any form on Origin? Well I got good news for you!

Within the next five days you will own 'The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection' even if you don't own every expansion.

I lost my account that has 4 Sims 2 games registered :suicide:
FUCK

I still don't have it here. I'm hoping this isn't a US-only thing and that you guys are just getting it earlier.
Also, can anyone who has it show us what the "box" art looks like? I've seen various posts by people who have it and have never seen that yet.
The box art is just the Sims 2 box art. http://i.imgur.com/vyfkBqP.png
The splash screen as the game loads says The Sims 2 Fun With Pets, while the exe is for the Mansion and Garden stuff pack.

I see. They redeemed my game as the Double Deluxe version so I'll have slightly different box art. The name still hasn't changed, though.
I think you'll get the same box art. I had the Holiday Edition (had no box art on my Origin account), and it's still on my Origin list greyed out and unable to run. But the Ultimate Collection was just added onto my account sometime today.
I got the Regular Sims 2 boxart, I have Double Deluxe.

Not US only, it just came through for me. Still no email.
I originally got Double Deluxe when EA offered it for free back in 2010 (?) before Origin existed. Pretty sweet deal.
ULTIMATE COLLECTION - WOOO! :v:

Thanks a ton Zanfall, bitchin' advice!
I am kind of surprised that I got the ultimate collection... turns out the customer support isn't as shit as everyone portrays it.

I've contacted their support for various things, I'd say I've spoke to them around 10 times on separate occasions and it's always been great. They have a habit of spamming you with discount codes which is always nice.
Welp, does someone know how I can get the resolution higher than 800*600?
Well, this went nowhere.
Spent a hour or so talking over live chat to try and get my game registered only to find that the key I gave them was already registered and that they can't even find the games registered on my email. (Even though I've always used this email and got the email saying that my copy of TS2 was out of date and that I'd be getting ultimate edition.)
Is there any way to find which account is registered to the game, or any alternative way to get the game registered?

Yeah, I'm having a variation on this problem too. Redeemed my original flavour Sims 2 retail copy via customer support, the code they gave me doesn't work, I contact support again about it and they say they've activated it for me, but still no game.
I gots no game.
Welp, does someone know how I can get the resolution higher than 800*600?
Go to the folder of your most recent Expansion or Stuff pack (whichever executable you launch the game with), go to TSData, Res, Config, and you'll see a file called Graphic Rules.sgr.
Press CTRL+F and find "ScreenModeResolution". That section contains settings for Low, Medium, "Mediumbutlow" and High resolution. Obviously if you have a newer PC, it doesn't recognise it and thinks you're on low settings, so look for the resolutions under $Low and you'll see:
uintProp maxResWidth 800
uintProp maxResHeight 600
uintProp defaultResWidth 800
uintProp defaultResHeight 600
The top two values, maxResWidth and maxResHeight need changing to whichever resolution you use. Save the file and it should be fixed.

EDIT: Another fix:
If your game forces low settings such as disabled shadows and/or disabled Edge Smoothing, open your Graphics Rules.sgr file (again, in your newest EP/SP folder) and search for $useSoftwareRasterizer and you should find this:
if (not $useSoftwareRasterizer)
# failed to obtain device texture memory size, force to 32MB
if ($textureMemory = 0)
seti textureMemory 32
endif
This is the failsafe for the game where it sets the available video memory to 32MB if it can't detect your card (most likely it can't, the game's database's newest cards are the Radeon X1800 and GeForce 6800 Ultra :v:). What you want to do is change "seti textureMemory 32" to whatever your texture memory is in megabytes. I have 3GB so I'd set mine to 3072 (I changed the commented code in case I came back to it):
if (not $useSoftwareRasterizer)
# failed to obtain device texture memory size, force to 3072MB
if ($textureMemory = 0)
seti textureMemory 3072
endif
Combine that fix and the one in the original version of this post for resolution and you should be able to play it like a modern game.
It was surprisingly easy for me to get my CD-version of The Sims 2 added to me account. Other than waiting for almost an hour there weren't any problems with it, i just told them i couldn't add it and asked them to do it for me and they gave me the Ultimate edition.
They also said i would get a 15% discount code although i haven't received it yet. I expect it was a lie just to get me to leave, as this is what they said:
"The discount code will be send to your email inbox right now once you end this chat session by pressing "Blue End Chat Button" on the Right Upper Corner Of the Chat Screen."
