Its funny I always though Sims in 3 always had same-y doughy faces and that 2's were much better. But playing 2 again and they don't look as varied as I remember.
The reason that's an issue in TS3 is because some service and other townies generated will spawn with no slider alterations. The way TS3 handles genetics also causes it because they combine sliders rather than having distinct features for dominant/recessive that TS2 had.
Hmm. I thought I heard Sims 4 was going back to separate lots but now it seems that's not the case. I just read it and it seems there are "worlds" that are separated into "neighborhoods" (one world is confirmed to have 6), with neighborhoods being small scale open world areas. But travelling between neighborhoods takes loading time. Honestly, while I'm gonna miss TS3's style of world, that doesn't sound too bad. I was afraid we'd be going back to individual lots- that would have been a near deal breaker for me. I just hope the neighborhood areas are a decent size. At the very least I can imagine the new system might make the town seem more lively by having everyone live on closer proximity.
People are are saying it was going back to single lots are just overstating how shitty they think Sims 4 is going to be. The neighborhoods thing has been known for a little while now and generally I think people are ok with it, hoping it makes stuff like rabbit holes...not rabbit holes and something actually interesting now. Personally, I think the most I'm angry about right now is Teen sims being the same height as YA sims. That's just fucking lazy imo. The problem is that EA are playing this shit so close to the chest it feels like a movie not allowing pre-screening before it releases, which is why I'm going to be waiting on the Lazy Game Review.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too. It seems like most of the problems I've seen with this game are all blown out of proportion but upon looking into it aren't even that bad. Really my only gripes are the loss of create-a-style (which drove me mad in the CAS Demo) and the fact that they've been tight lipped about a lot of things. Like not addressing the pool/toddler fiasco too directly. Makes me worried if there's other things that got cut, or if they're planning on migrating them to an expansion or DLC. I hope it just gets patched in after a while, like basements in 3. The whole thing reminds me of 3. Everyone cried that it ruined the series at first, but when I got my hands on it, a lot of the things people complained about were minor or were just misunderstandings. Now it feels like most of the hate just comes from the whole SimCity debacle and EA's... EAness. Still, like you said, I'm waiting for LGR's review. He's never let me down in the past.
Honestly, I feel like CAS was one reason Sims 3 was so butt fucked by optimization issues. After a while, you could get up and make yourself coffee in the time it took to load a clothing section when making a new sim. It was pretty stupid. The diversity is going to be missed, but the loading times are not.
True, but I just wish they found a way to make create-a-style less intensive instead of cutting it. I hate having a hat or something that goes well with a jacket, or a chair that goes nicely with a sofa, and it doesn't have the same color or pattern.
The engine they use is just a bad fit for what they want to do with the game, it feel like it was hacked together. It's like they built the game around a garbage collection based system, but forgot to include the collection pass (I know it has one, but it's half arsed at what it does and still has a huge performance hit at 3am), it generates temporary objects that get saved to disk, that's pointless.
The only thing I really hate about 3 is it's just laggy as shit; it ruins the overall experience when there's so many improvements from 2 in 3.
Sorry for the repost but I posted this in the wrong thread by mistake
I have that black square shadow glitch on Sims 2 and downing shadow quality does absolutely nothing. Anyone know what's wrong? Also glasses don't show the lens at all, they just fail to render.

I've given up on trying to fix this, I applied all of the fixes that the user in this thread recommended to my Pets folders and I still have shitty graphics and resolution :( frustrated. I miss this game so much.
Okay, well I go to the Pets > SP9 folder, open up graphics rules.sgr, I find the screenmode resolution first off and add my 1920 x 1080 to the two lines maxreswidth and maxresheight and save, then load up Sims 2 from origin and I still get the 800 x 600. Then I try to look for $usesoftwarerasterizer in the same file "if (not $useSoftwareRasterizer) # failed to obtain device texture memory size, force to 32MB if ($textureMemory = 0) seti textureMemory 32 endif" but when I do that there's no seti texturememory line. So what I tried to do was download an updated file from that one website and replace it, but it still doesn't do anything for me. Should I manually add the setitextureMemory line? Also, thank you very much for helping me!
One thing I remember about The Sims -series is when my sister made a copy of our family and showed it to me. She had made the roof flat with railings, tables and a grill. She made my character do some burgers on the grill and the grill caught fire and burned the house down and killed everyone. I just replied "Yep, that's pretty much how it would go." :v: Also I'm responsible for the horrible Sims-addiction 2 of my younger sisters have. I introduced them to The Sims when it came out and now they have their OWN copies of Sims 2 and Sims 3 along with ALL of the expansions for both.
Personally I think Sims 4 is going to have as many if not less features vanilla Sims 2 had. With the only improvements being to building and create a sim, and a slightly more TF2 aesthetic to it all. Over time, Sims has gone from the realistic-ish representation of an every day life, to this fantasy science-fiction silly cartoony type of a simulated life, and 4 is going to take it a step further Of course, we're going to have to pay $60 for the game, another $200 over the next 2 and a half years for the expansions, just to get the content that we ALL just got for free with Sims 2 Ultimate
It would be nice to have the same classic cheats. And I really hope there will at least have mods.

Downloading the collection, is there something like a big pack that contains a bunch of fixes for the game?
So I got the sims 2 on origin, but I have some issues, the game is complaining whenever I start it about that I have low hard disk space left (despite having 300 gigabytes free) and when it finally starts up, there are no neighbourhoods to choose from and clicking the "create neighbourhood" button, it just leaves me with a blank screen. Also it seems I cannot access any options screen of any manner (explaining the 800x600 resolution)
Look at the post I quoted in my first post on the last page.
Ah ahhaha What the fuck, for real
Ah ahhaha What the fuck, for real
That actually fixed everything for me.
That actually fixed everything for me.
Same here. That's crazy. Never knew the registry was so anal about special characters
Same here. That's crazy. Never knew the registry was so anal about special characters
The registry doesn't care, it's apps that make use of the data stored in the registry. If Sims 2 was designed to work on 9x (Can't remember if it was) then it'd have issues with Unicode.
Is there a way I can make my sim live forever? Either Sims 3 or Sims 2. I think it'd be fun keeping a Sim around and seeing people die and such, though the Sim won't be really affected by it.

As for the texture memory fix, are you going into the TSData\Config folder or TSData\CSConfig?
Anyone recommend any mods for Sims 2?
Yeah, what was the TS2 predecessor to the TS3 mastercontroller? I remember ending up using that due to its legacy from ~that sims 2 supermod~ but it's been so long I've forgotten what that mod was.
ok, i started to make a facepunch familiy
