The Sims Megathread - Come on in! The house is on fire but it's ok. Have you seen my basement?

I bought all the expansions while on sale because I wanted to buy them and felt that they all had something I wanted in the game, not because I need to have complete Sims 3. That's why I didn't buy the stuff packs.
Big Dumb Post.
I feel like I've seen you post this exact same post a few times before in Sims-related threads.
Just because you don't like the games doesn't mean that everybody else should feel "ripped off" for buying them.
Like many have said already, a bulk of the people who play don't blindly buy everything released, they cherry pick what they want. And if somebody does buy everything, why does it offend you so much? They clearly enjoy the game and would rather spend that money on the Sims, as opposed to some other game.

I still agree with him that some things should simply be included already. Pets imo should be default, for example.
So why are you here? This is like going to railworks and telling them they should be ashamed of themselves for having a hobby, or going to any major mmo with a subscription fee and telling them to give it up. Different people have different interests, you have to accept that, and the fact that you aren't going to change their interests by degrading them or their hobbies on the internet.
At the end of the day, you have to look at yourself and see if you are making people better off or worse off, and I don't feel that telling people what to do is very effective at bettering peoples lives.
It is literally nothing like that whatsoever, and I have no idea how you got that from what I wrote. I like the Sims and have been playing the base game pretty darn heavily over the past week or so. So, you know, I'm in the thread to read peoples' stuff and see about good mods and new content and whatnot. Not buying the expansion packs doesn't mean I don't play the game, and it certainly doesn't mean that I'm in the business of snubbing people who have different opinions than I do!
I'm not in any way trying to imply that you or anybody else who plays this game or buys its extra content is stupid or pathetic or whatever else it seems that you've somehow taken from my post, I'm just jabbing at EA for their unethical business practices and nasty pricing strategies! Agree or don't, but at least don't schlock me as an anti-fan, in here to call you all dorks for playing a game you like, because that's completely inaccurate.
Is there a way to stop showing shit that they want me to buy in the menus? It is pretty ridiculous.

There's a tickbox in the option menu to disable store content, I believe.
Hey guys, I feel like buying another piece of dlc while it's on sale, what dlc improved the game most for you?
I already have:
Late night
Ambitions
Supernatural

No question, Seasons should be next on your list.

It feels like whenever someone tries to have a normal, healthy debate on Facepunch everyone accuses them of being trolls and insulting everyone or some shit.

Seasons is an absolute must and seems to be the best DLC out so far while Generations is good if you're into legacy challenges and other dynasty related antics.
Thanks Bros, seasons it is.
Seasons or Ambitions, those are my two favorite packs

Oh you decided :v:

He already has Ambitions...

By the way, are there any mods that fix the Spooky Day "No-one is home" problem?
I got Ambitions and Generations. Regretting not opting in Seasons.
hm...
so i tell my sim to go read a book. she grabs the book and then going into the bathroom, she gets frozen hovering over the toilet in a "book reading" pose. she then teleports into a wall and gets stuck for an ingame hour before she goes off to make food. she makes some waffles and then she starts eating over the toilet again.
what the fuck?

It takes two to have
blatant extortion.
also there is the whole
It's a wonder people still fall for it!
Is it really that hard to see where I got the idea that you were calling all the people who do buy stuff packs fools, and that we were being extorted by an obvious extortion by EA?
[editline]23rd January 2013[/editline]
I personally don't like seasons as much as I did when I first got it because it changed gameplay too much and made winter feel like a whole different game. I can't even garden my trees without cheats because planters don't work with them.

do you have anywhere else to sit?
So if I were to buy The Sims 3, would I be missing out on anything if I didn't buy the expansions?
If so, which expansions are crucial to get and which should I avoid?

It all comes down to personal taste really in what you want from the Sims. Look over the features of each pack and see what does and doesn't catch your liking and decide from there. But on it's own Sims 3 is not bad at all, but Expansions do add a lot of content.
I bought the Sims 3 full price on Sunday, then it goes on sale today. And to top it all off, all it does is freeze my PC during loading in a similar way that hl2.exe likes to crash.

There seriously aren't enough ways to say, "I don't care how you spend your money!"
Honest to gosh, I really, honestly don't. My taking issue with EA's pricing strategies has zilcho to do with how I feel about you as a person, or anybody else for that matter! Why even continue to pursue this silly line of argumentation?

Well obviously your game is going to feel very empty without Katy Perry's Sweet Treats, but that kind of goes without saying.
-snip- Done.
The High-End Loft stuff pack isn't garbage tho, in my humble opinion... Then again, modern furniture gives me style boners.
Is anyone with an ATI card (5800 series being the most relevant) able to play the game with catalyst 13.1? Apparently the game won't work with any driver other than 9.x from 2009. :|
Well that's weird as shit. I'll try disabling crossfire then. Are you on W7 64-bit?
Yeah, disabled it and it worked fine. Bummer.
There was a meteor strike during a busy night at the local italian restaurant.
[t]http://puu.sh/1RzMF[/t]
It wrecked EVERYTHING and killed two people.
[editline]23rd January 2013[/editline]
Also pets seem to be incompatible with the Nraas Relativity Mod, as their activities like eating and scratching aren't enough to even remotely fill their needs bars meaning pets are even more high maintenance than they were before.
had no idea they are making university life

Fuck being a nice person.
Digging a basement and trapping people in it until they starve and die so you can make a graveyard in your garden is the best thing to do in this game.
I tried to make a pure thief and sociopath in the sims 2 once and even gave him a political job to go with it, but the fucker wouldn't stop calling people to satisfy his social needs, even the ones he had a fight with the day before. So every time he did that I invited them over and trap them in fences until they died, then I built a corridor with tons of paintings on the walls and a series of tables with the exposed urns on it.
Theres ways to play Sims 3 and 2 multiplayer. But this requires us to all use the same save and go in turns, so lets say I go for like 1 hour then I send that saved file to someone else via dropbox which continues on another family which we had set up.
Get Seasons (adds weather) and Late Night (adds a lot of stuff), Ambitions (adds fully playable careers), generations are good too.
Avoid showtime, it's garbage, so are the stuff packs.
Pets, supernatural, and world adventures are "optional" and only worth getting if you're interested in that type of stuff.
I didn't think Showtime was that bad. It's like if you combined Late Night and Ambitions, but had less overall content. Definitely worth picking up if you can find it on sale and super cheap.
