Overwatch - Scientists baffled by team's ability to fuck up every time

The Soldier only mode would've been better off without rockets imo
It turns into "Who can direct hit the volley first" since it insta kills you
I wish you could save local replays...

None of those were there on launch, at least if I recall correctly.
People praise TF2's initial launch/lore a little too much. It was mostly barren. However, Valve has some very good writers on-board and they were able to expand it across the years at a pretty reliable pace. Right down to the tiny little touches, like Sniper's scar after the "Meet the Spy" video went live.
Overwatch, on the other hand, has these kind of faux-imitation "meet the" videos with some awfully campy writing. You can basically predict the entire plot of S76's about 10 seconds into the video. And in-game lore drops down to some generic "I've heard this way too many times" dialogues between characters, mostly in the spawn. The world needs heroes, but for some reason villains are standing right along side people they wanted to kill prior in order to capture tiny circles or nudge around some payloads for not-so-obvious reasons.
And man, I just realized, Overwatch's payload really lacks that climatic explosion/event for a successful attacking team. It's just "oh, it's there, uh.. victory!!"

Weren't Blizzard working on making that a feature?
Finishing with helix rockets is faster than starting with them as they have a lengthy recovery time after being fired.
i feel like widowmaker would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more tolerable to deal with if she just couldnt use grappling hook while in combat. something like "cannot use if you have damaged or have been damaged by an enemy in the last 4 seconds" or something to that effect. the worst part about her is that, after switching classes to someone specifically to deal with her, putting in all of the time and effort to working your way up to her, and finally getting lucky enough to not just get popped off in a single shot, she can just swing away to complete safety and start all over if you haven't saved your mobility options (which often, the only tools you would have to chase her with were used to get to her position in the first place)

tf2 had really satisfying victories in general

Widowmaker's nerf is really not enough. 120 for a botched shot is still a lot of damage. And if her charge speed has been left unchanged, she can still crank those out absurdly quick.
If they wanna keep her as a long-range powerhouse; sure, that makes sense. But they still haven't done anything about the fact that she's got as much health as front-line assault heroes like McCree. Or that she has a short-to-midrange assault rifle that performs almost as well as 76's. Or that she's got more mobility than either of those two, thanks to her fucking auto-aim hookshot.
I have to say the whole hero shtick doesn't really work when you're basically just murdering another group of people who are no better than you, to gain some territory for no real expained reason. In TF2 everybody's a murderous mercenary, but they own it and acknowledge that they're all murderous mercenaries. In Overwatch everybody really is a murderous mercenary but they all pretend otherwise. Like, no, I don't buy it that you say you consider violence a last resort Winston, you just threw three people off a cliff and cracked a quip about them being endangered species.
But they still haven't done anything about the fact that she's got as much health as front-line assault heroes like McCree.
Her HP would be less of an issue of her model was wider or she didn't tuck her legs on jumping.
Her (and Mercy oddly) are the only two 200HP classes I can regularly hook as Roadhog and not kill with the immediate shot/melee combo
so after playing several matches after the patch, the widow maker nerf did jack shit. but mcree i think is in a good place now
Tracer and zenyatta can no longer be one shot body shot with a full charge, and for high level Widowmakers the scope delay nerf is actually pretty big and takes away a lot of the mid-fight mobility. If a widowmaker wants to be mobile mid fight now it drops the potential DPS, so there's a trade off between being mobile and jumping around vs staying scoped in and dishing out damage - you didn't have to make that tradeoff before as it was better to quickly unscope and scope back in as you would get an initial damage boost.
Nerf Zenyatta, I have trouble headshotting him because at long range his head looks the same as his orbs
yeah, Widowmaker should have 150hp tops. I don't see why she would warrant needing 200hp. Hanzo makes sense because hes supposed to be more of a front line sniper, but Widowmaker should be squishier and be at a disadvantage in a face to face confrontation.
I haven't actually played a game yet today with someone playing her so I don't know how her nerfs affect stuff first hand though.

Like I mentioned before, nerfing the scope out-scope in is effectively nerfing the charge speed for higher level Widowmakers. You could charge faster scoping out and back in because it would give you an automatic 10% charge by scoping back in, and since there was no delay on the scoping it was basically having a 10%+ headstart as there was a delay after you shot if you stayed scoped in before it would begin charging again, as well it would start charging from 0%. This is a really big hit to Widowmaker at the higher level and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of pro teams stopped running double Widowmaker
I still see Widowmakers just taking the time to line-up fully charged shots against tracers that come to face them, only now they have to unscope and finish off tracer with her assault rifle

Should have been Roadhog in the shark skin.

If a tracer is in close enough to a Widowmaker to be effectively finished off by the assault rifle, you probably shouldn't be getting hit by a scoped shot in the first place from that close and you're not playing tracer very well
They need to just make Widowmaker like TF2 sniper in terms of her Sniper Rifle. Slow charge rate and have to unscope after every shot. I will be perfectly fine with Widowmaker if they did that.
Removing her would also be good.
no delay on the scoping it was basically having a 10%+ headstart as there was a delay after you shot
not true
They shouldn't have removed quickscoping. It's what made Widow viable.
Damage nerf is fine, Ult charge is fine. But completely taking out what made high-end widow players good is quickscoping. Now you can't fight harassers as well, you can't target as well anymore, and now you have 4 second delay between each shot unless you want to keep tickling them with uncharged scoped shots.
I'll be surprised if we see widows in any comp games now. Easily replaced with a close combat hero that can do the same thing as her, but has more survivability.
I'm disappointed at the lack of pre-game interaction lines a few characters have. McCree pretty much exclusively has two or three lines with Reaper and I think Roadhog only interacts with Junkrat. You'd think a few other characters would at least acknowledge their existence.

That doesn't affect the charge speed THAT much though, I doubt it makes much of a difference. The reason I've been doing it is you get more vision, your model is a bit more awkward to hit since it moves when you scope and unscope + you can sidestep faster, all good things if you're trying to kill another sniper.

Oh no, now you can't easily solo your counters and can't clear an open field all on your own now. Whatever shall we do now that Widowmaker has to pick her targets more wisely and needs to stay a bit closer to her team to help her deal with her counters.

No, being able to do 300 damage at a time is what made and still makes Widow viable.
damn dva's BM game is too strong
