Joined Mythmoor, (that's the server right?) took a portal from spawn, appeared in a massive cedar ? forest, got killed by old giant spiders.
It's nice to know I'm not gonna cap out my skills at 20 though.
Whoever's got a deed in Mythmoor should help direct me to their settlement.

Anyway WU is good because you don't pay for premium and get the full game and you have mods and can host private servers and each server is different, some are more fun due to mods and stuff, while some try to mimic WO. Also no account selling in WU which is a huge plus for me. I do agree that the mods on WO are asses.
But WO is better because it has more players. Right now, WU has a bunch of servers, that shitty Sklotopolis server has 200+ right now, mainly due to WU being $1 on Humble Bundle, so obviously those who buy it will go to the highest populated server, further increasing its population.
Remember when Zenath had 200+? I do. Now it has an average of 2-3 if even that.
Remember when Wyvern had 300+? I do. Now it has an average of 30-60, which is still good considering how much the other servers have, and it's in the top 10. This is the fate of pretty much every WU server out there.
Now more people might be playing WU but they won't interact with each other since the servers are not connected in a central way like WO is and since there are hundreds of servers with most having 0 players on most of the time, it doesnt look good.
There is no central community or anything like that in WU. Most servers have no real economy or anything like WO does.
There is also no proper WU PvP server. Zenath PvP failed miserably and while Wyvern had some decent PvP for a time, it still died. There were some minor PvP servers but they never lasted long. I suppose this is because PvP in this game sucks and appeal to an even smaller audience, which seems to be the same people from WO. Like literally on all PvP servers i've played it was the same group of experienced PvPers from WO dominating a server and then crying that there is no pvp.
Anyway, apparently they are changing how skilling in WO will work, no more shitty formula to determine skillgain, instead you will be able to spam items and get skill like it works in WU and there will be transfers between Epic and Freedom. Lately there has been some good improvements for Wurm and ever since Rofl took a backseat, the game has been heading into a better direction.
IMO Unlimited was a mistake and a cash grab. I've also heard there are a lot of negative reviews on the steam page.

I can't say much to the post above me except that there are negative reviews on the steam page for WU but most of them aren't even reviews as much as dumb people buying things without doing research - "gui is terrible" "bad graphics" "spawned, got killed, I want a refund"
Phwoar I remember the old times on this game, getting reported on the forums for dumping sand on neighbouring towns

What is wrong with Sklotopolis ?, I've been playing on there about a week now and it seems decent enough, met quite a few good players so far, I gave WO a try yesterday and despite all the buildings and stuff the place felt rather empty, the incredibly slow skill gain I could live with but having to pay to get your skills above 20 completely kills it as a game for me and I'm sure for many other people as well, so I'd hardly call WU a mistake, I certainly have no desire to play WO no matter what happens in future.

I'm pretty much brand new to this so I think I'll have to scrape together some coin to start the deed. Will probably hop on tomorrow to do just that. In the meantime, I'll add you ;)
I don't really see the appeal in paying a monthly membership fee for a server with decent population if I can get the same game for $1. Both the admins and playerbase of WU and WO are generally toxic, a problem that seems to occur in all sandbox MMOs all the way back to ultima online. I still think WU is the deepest sandbox game on the market right now, and will be for a long time since it's still receiving decent updates. It's a pity most if not all of the privately owned servers are ass.
The epic cluster is getting revamped this month in Online. Theyre making grinding faster and such. Might wanna check that out

I agree, paid membership is the ultimate reason I don't play WO anymore. It's just not worth it, specially with dying player-base. Though I think the community is nice if you ignore PvP servers.
So after fucking about on Sklotopolis for awhile, I founded a deed in Novus - named Bjornvik currently.

It'll be quite a walk from spawn but you spawn with eggs for spawning a horse. Look up how to tame the horse on the wurm wiki and you can ride it here, and lead it across the small body of water you'll inevitably have to swim across

You'll have to transport over to the Novus continent, by the way. There's a portal or touchstone in the starting city iirc that allows you teleport there.

Just made it to Bjornvik, the fact i made it without being hit once by the numerous amount of creatures on the way is a bonus.
