Made it to Bjornvik. I'm going to see about keeping the town fed.
So in a little over 12 hours, Bjornvik went from this

That palisade is a complete square covering the deed space. A good chunk of time in the beginning went to me and milkdairy finding iron
I'd love to come play again but i have no time to dedicate to the grind that will eventually go away soon
Bjornvik, population 8 :^)
(not shown is one guy who's on cooldown to join!)

If anyone else wants to join, I can remotely invite you for a one-off teleport to the village, so just let me know. No need to travel all the way South to join us!
Just noticed there are people on FP playing this game! I'm on Sklotopolis and set up a little village with some friends, if you want to join just add me on steam or hook me up, my ingame name is Jawzz!
Looks like we are somewhat neighbours :v:
Tried this game out, never really take these kinda games seriously because I just lose interest and drop them after a few hours so my dude looks like a creep with a mustache, spawned in on Sklotopolis and just wandered around without a clue, came across a very nice pathway just outside the starter town which led to a small house, like a creep I stared in through the window not expecting anyone to be home.
Someone was home, they took me out hunting, taught me the basics of the game and helped me build a cart, I'm also allowed to stay in their home until I find a place for myself, I never thought this game would be so deep and I'm honestly amazed by it all, I'm definitely hooked.
Then the person went offline and when I was making items/tools/armor at his/her forge two weirdos approached the house making fart noises and asking me to open the door, quite the experience.
Can't wait to get back on tomorrow, hopefully I'll be able to find a spot for myself, hasn't really worked out yet since all the ground in the game seems to never be flat enough even though I try to flatten it.
We've got plenty of flat ground down in Bjornvik, we can invite you and give you a teleport.
I heard one of our members (I won't call them out) left to start his own deed last night :/

I love those kinds of first experiences in games
I just bought/installed Wurm Unlimited from the Humble Bundle, I'll hop on Sklotopolis and start walking to Bjornvik. For $1 this shit is gonna be good.
I tried playing Wurm Online a couple years back but I mostly just walked around, got lost in caves, dug some dirt at the FP settlement, squatted in unlocked cabins, punched some forest creatures (I think, there was no animation), cut some trees, and built some sort of outhouse frame thing before I stopped playing due to not having skills to do shit or something or other.

If you don't want to walk, I can just invite you for a teleport :^) It's a bit of a way from spawn.
Hmm I went through the Novus portal after I created my character (the new portal that has a sign saying it was created October 7th, 2017 I think). It transported me here: http://andistyr.github.io/wu-map/14821/#spawn-point
Can I just teleport to Bjornvik from here? Looks like I'm separated by water.
My name is Highelfwizard ingame.

I'm out right now but I'll invite you ASAP when I get home.
Alright can't wait to get there! I'll start heading there by horse and/or cart anyway in the meantime. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to cross that much water without teleporting or sailing, however I just saw the part of Kyle's post about swimming there. I shall don my leather speedo when the time arrives.
Is it plausible to play as a solo player on Sklotopolis? I was thinking of building somewhere near here:

and just having a little boat to trade with that settlement on the northern tip of the lake. I've got no idea how well I could do by myself, since I know next to nothing. my goal is to just have a small homestead, where I can farm, forge tools, build a boat, trade. I've got no idea how to find ore deposits, so I don't know whether it's a smart move to just settle wherever looks nice, as opposed to settling right next to iron.
Ore veins seem to be pretty common. You shouldn't have trouble getting to some iron wherever you settle.
oh hey a facepunch settlement again. might come join in when I have chance
I'd join but I've already got a place setup here, still I'm open for trade once the canal gets finished.
Spent quite some hours building my first house, its off-deed so its not really gonna be something I'll remain at for long but building it was actually really kinda fun when in other games of this type it always felt like a massive drag, can't wait to build my next house bigger and better on a deed somewhere now that I know how everything works
I also learned to not build a roof on before building a wall on the second floor because then you end up with an open wall and you can't easily get rid of the roof, repurposed that area into my forge area instead for now :v:
If anyone's just starting out fresh on Sklotopolis take the left after Shinra Mansion and you should already see my house across from Fedoraflip's house, I don't have much but if I'm there I'd be willing to give you some logs/lumps/let you use my forge to get you started
Protip: the carving knife destroys walls and floors and roofs instantly, whereas the hammer would take literal hours
Already abandoned my first home in order to build it bigger and better on my own deed just down the road :v:
If anyone comes across a place called Stillwood, thats me
I did this with my house in bjornvik but instead of making a whole new one I first added a second floor, then a balcony, a garden, then a little stable...
This just happened and I found it kind of disturbing
So after fucking about on Sklotopolis for awhile, I founded a deed in Novus - named Bjornvik currently.
Anyone else wanna join up? :^)
I was actually thinking of playing on Novus, but admittedly I'm a bit of a loner and don't like dealing with village life. I'd happily set up near you guys though.
That reminds me, I'm a bit conflicted, I'm really happy with my first deed & proper first house, got a backyard with crops, a forge and everything aswell as some inside decoration, a bed, altar, floor loom, bunch of storage etc. but it turns out nobody ever seems to use the road that goes past my house, makes it all very lonely.
As I said earlier I don't work very well in groups but I've been considering relocating to Bjornvik or near it(or any other settlement with alive people, really) because I do like some interaction sometimes, problem is I'm not sure if I have it in me to pack up, leave and build everything up from the ground again, building my house, fences, forge, carts, boat etc. took me way longer than I'd like to admit.
Maybe people would come by more often if I finished the paving of the road that someone else started.
Cool thing about Bjornvik rn is that pretty much every essential utility is available publicly, so you really don't have to make all your own stuff if you don't want to - Bjornvik makes the materials and facilities available to all its citizens. Plus, we have some great, dedicated villagers pulling duty on important stuff like food, wagonbuilding, etc. it ain't too bad honestly, and neither is village life :^)
But if mingling with the village isn't for you, you're welcome to settle nearby and become an ally-deed. I have ambitions in the future of forming a Facepunch kingdom, so hopefully one day the whole island will be ours >:)
I'm going to come check out Bjornvik!
I came across like 50 horses just swimming around in the ocean, needless to say I'm going to be well fed for a while.
Made it to Bjornvik, it didn't take as long as I thought it would but its definitely the furthest out I've been so far though
Rowing was slower than I thought it would be, at one point I came across a few drowning horses so I decided to run my boat aground and proceed on horseback, I half killed myself going through a very dense thorn bush forest before taking it slow and cutting stuff down, then got chased by hellhounds and trolls through open fields and more forest until I finally found a road
Sadly when I got there nobody was there so I wasn't able to see what secrets lie within the palisade but the surrounding area looks cozy, I brought two gift horses but couldn't find a good spot to leave them so I left them at the brothel, I'm sure one of you will be able to find them if they don't wander off too far
I'll probably relocate to somewhere nearby Bjornvik in the future, looking at the map it seems like a bridge is being built which would make it pretty easy for me to move some essentials over
By the way there's an abnormally huge spider in the forest infront of Bjornvik, creeped me out while I left
oh fuck no, keep those filthy mainlanders off my island
Looks like I won't be playing on Novus. Wife wanted me to set up a server for just the two of us! Wasn't too hard to do, I've done much harder servers than this. And it runs on my $5/month Linux VPS which is good.
So much for playing with you guys though. Have fun gents.
I also thought I could steal a bull and pig from your island(there's nothing but horses near my deed) but I found out the hard way that pigs and bulls can't swim like horses can
Ended up giving the bull away to a miner who happened to be working near my boat and I left my pet pig stuck in the water because I couldn't lead her out of it :v:
If you need help moving some stuff over water (aside from animals) we can transfer your stuff with the knarr :^)
Its possible to “pack” animals into “items” for transporting and then unpack them. Oh wait thats only on wyvern
Who showed up at Bjornvik last night? We need to add you to the deed so you can build and access the community forge
Why do people keep showing up for one hour, placing a tent, and logging out to never log back in again :(
Why do people keep showing up for one hour, placing a tent, and logging out to never log back in again :(
It's a fairly involved game tbh
Tents eventually disappear on their own don't they? I remember someone plopped down a tent and wooden frame next to my deed but never did anything with it, eventually it was all gone and all that was left was an unfinished cart where the tent and frame used to be.
I don't want it so I just left it where it was, it kinda adds atmosphere to the road :v:
They do but there's a bunch of tents hogging up prime real estate and they take ages to rot away
Plus I gave some dude my cart and now it's sitting in front of my house and I can't use it
Village is expanding - Get on !
