So this is for the normal wurm mmo right?
Is wurm unlimited worth it these days, anyway?

I think Wurm Unlimited is worth it. We had an amazing kingdom on one of the custom servers a while ago. I wish I had taken pictures of it. If you feel like putting money into Wurm Online, you should really consider getting Wurm Unlimited instead.
How far along are you lot? I remember being our glorious paladin last time and fucking stooges up

not too far at the moment, still mostly setting up
Wurm Unlimited is a lot better than Wurm Online.
Come to Wyvern, basically pay once get all features, faster skillgain etc etc...

If there is a massive discount one day, maybe. It's too expensive right now.
I'm in camp now, what needs doing?
I trekked from Dirtmund to the new place by boat. By big boat; a corbita. It had its issues.
Anyway, the journey starts in Dirtmund where the deed is still up and will still be up for another 200 or-so days because of the generous mayor Woovie (currently MIA). Mine is the only finished house on the Dirtmund deed;

jA_cOp's Kitchen and Clinic
I'd hoarded some crap there so I brought a variety with me on the boat, such as high QL tools, cotton, wemps and garlics.
Dirtmund is by the lake in Q15, so to sail to the new place, one has to sail south past Clerics Point, then east into the inland sea. There's a bit of a problem there:
[thumb]https://i.imgur.com/uLOLjsp.jpg[/thumb]
Passage to Inland Sea (pictured: mah boat!)
The passage is covered in a huge swath of shallow clay, not deep enough for bigger boats. Luckily there was a shittily constructed canal to the side, from where I took the screenshot, but for some inexplicable reason it's not quite connected properly to the ocean side, so I had to pull my boat across shallow dirt for a good 10 minutes. To the next person sailing this crappy passage: bring a dredge.
Way on the other side of the inland sea is Tulum, which has a massive canal tunnel linked up with Hazedome on the other side. The canal was clearly built with big boats in mind, but I soon discovered that development wasn't finished yet, and there's still a shallow stretch in the middle of the tunnel. I don't have the 23 body strength needed to drag the boat, so I moored it there and walked the rest of the way :( Maybe someone with 23 BS can help me out? I'll drag the raft with the goods :)
So yeah, for those at sea, it's not terrible news. Of course the tiny lake we settled at isn't connected with the bigger lake, but it's actually a smaller canal job than the one we achieved at Dirtmund. With just a little work we [i]could[/i] have direct access all the way to the big ocean, FWIW.
I don't suppose there's still a cog called "The Dutchman" in the bay around there? That used to be my boat, but I haven't played in a long time, so it may have decayed away by now.
I kinda wanna play again. I made a massive cotton and hemp plantation and a modest lighthouse in dirtmund but I got too over obsessive with the farm and maintaining it became a chore.

I don't remember seeing it at Dirtmund. Were you at Dirtmund, though? I thought you were busy complaining in the thread about how shit everything was. I could be wrong.
There was a ship there called "The Black Guy" though. I think that might be Ripsipiirakka's boat.

We have an ad-hoc farm thing going on. We're waiting for you!
edit:
Thanks to Trulli's magnificent muscles (for "loading") and generous anonymous donors from around the lands, we have plenty of beds for everyone!

I think I moved over there, but then I got busy IRL so I wasn't able to actually play.
YEah, almost built a boat, went to get some tar and got mauled by two bears.
Sorry guys skipping this one. I know I could just make a new character but I don't have the time or will to put up with Wurm right now tbh.
I missed this game, I'll be there as soon as I download the client.

i thought there was a boat bridge over to xanadu?
Kinda miffed I can't use Unlimited to connect, but I guess it's time to return to dirtmund.
Made an amazing (and pointless) tower with help from friends!!

View of the initial camp from the tower:

Most of the settlement is up the hill to the right, though.
Opened the canal, and the entrance is quite a bit nicer than the one at Dirtmund!
[thumb]https://i.imgur.com/sg0r4IG.jpg[/thumb]
The depth of the entrance is 32 below water level, deeper than the depth of 20 that the largest ships need to pass. The depth of the canal tunnel is about 7, deep enough for rowboats and small sailing boats to pass, but shallow enough to stand and regain stamina. The tunnel can easily be lowered later to allow bigger ships to pass; the bulk of the work will be mining the tunnel. There's about 50 tiles to the other side, so anyone who wants to grind their mining skill, come and mine forward :)
The canal exit on the other side has yet to be uncovered, but with some luck we can make the tunnel entirely straight with no turns.
nice, shouldn't take too long to get through the the other side
wow fuken rude dumber raters!!!
wait this is in Online and not Unlimited?

another progress pic!

About the canal: if anyone wants to go in there and mine, please mine [i]up[/i] two times (from the level with the shallow water) then forward. Then when we're on the other side, we can use "level" to lower the tunnel back down to water depth. This is a much faster way of completing the ceiling.

Yes, it's online, so people can play for free if they want. We're on Xanadu.

still not sold the rare aids fountain yet then

Canal exit is almost done! There's lots of surface mining to do though, if anyone is up for that.
The crew toiling in the canal
[thumb]https://i.imgur.com/BV5ewYz.jpg[/thumb]
The canal exit is ready and now we just mine straight. We're about halfway through and I'm certain Icemaz is allergic to sunlight by now. We encountered an iron vein which we're mining around for the time being; apparently trulli is going to mine it out later. Bless that brave man. Once the canal is open we have our own private lake from which to conduct piracy far and wide :)
There's lots of projects to be done after the canal too! In the immediate vicinity of the lake we've prospected copper, zinc, gold and lead, and we've already uncovered iron and tin. That's every kind of ore except silver! If we uncover copper and zinc, then with the tin we already have we can make brass and bronze, required to make a dioptra. With a dioptra we can make bridges. I have a couple of small bridge projects in mind.
Meanwhile the others are working on the desert shantytown, uphill from the lake. We have loads of space for anyone who wants to make their mark with glorious 1x1 sheds :)
More than anything though, we need manpower! Join us!!
edit:
To be clear, there's plenty of space lakeside too, just with the caveat that it's unlikely to ever be on deed.
Fast forward three hours:
Uncovered a zinc vein in the east of the lake. I built a ramp up to it so you can't miss it.
More importantly though, I tunneled to find copper and discovered a collapsed mine! Whomever was here before us clearly didn't miss the copper. Not only does the mine contain a copper vein and a tin vein, but there's 6 large crates full of lead ore in here.
In effect, now we have plenty of every kind of ore except silver, and since we have a huge stash of gold (whoops, am I allowed to say that? :D) we don't really need silver for anything AFAIK.
The mine is quite big and impressive. It has a few collapsed branches; DrFreeman went right to work on spelunking further.

(How in the world did our predecessor make that ceiling??)
[thumb]https://i.imgur.com/NpuGhsr.jpg[/thumb]
Crates full of lead ore
After mining some more, I found a section with a gold vein and a few crates full of gold ore. There's still more to the cave, and I broke down another wall in the direction of the rest of the mine.
youre in my cave lmao
that ceiling connected your area with mine back in the day its collapsed now so i donno the situation
