Regardless of how much you might enjoy the gameplay, it's still a game that had incredibly wasted potential. The world is incredibly detailed yet mind blowingly pointless and empty.

I'm not a huge fan of the game, I don't think it's bad, but fundamentally limiting in many ways. I played about 25hours before I wasn't feeling it was fun anymore.
I don't mind the lootershooter concept, I got like 200 hours in Borderlands 2 and still enjoy it. I think it's the "needs to still be grounded in reality" concept which restricts some of the more fantastical options for the genre.

Now that I put some time into it, while it does have it's faults and it definitely was not worth the full price, it is not as bad as people say.
