What's your specs? I get the feeling you have a major framerate advantage to be that precise and decisive.
gtx970 and intel i7-4790 @ 3.6ghz, but I usually have an FPS around 40, 60 if the server has a lower population, sometimes it even dips below 30. I really, really hope they can improve performance with V8.
tho I am used to bad framerates from hundreds of hours in Arma I guess.

By default it is bound to your sprint key, meaning that you zoom in when standing still and sprint when moving, like in red orchestra.

I guess my sense of taste must be really alien or something? I don't know, it just looks like a whole lot of nothing. It has that video-gamey problem of elevation being exaggerated and terrain being generated in a way that doesn't really make any sense. I've seen minecraft's worldgen put out prettier scenery.

Minecraft sort of has it easy, but you're not wrong either.
Here's my 2 cents on it.
It's more difficult when you're dealing with polygonal surfaces than with Minecrafts cube world.
In Minecraft, a lot of very interesting landscape features can occur, but they're also interesting because a lot of it is left to the imagination. It being cubes and all.
It's a bit more difficult to suspend your disbelief if a polygonal surface that tries to look (sort of) real starts having very weird shapes, and you need to take into account textures and shit.
You can make it super flexible and allow it to have all sorts of unique and unexpected shapes, but this means you have to choose between:
- Long R&D time to get it working right in all situations
- Buggy surfaces now and then which break the immersion
In Minecraft, buggy surfaces cannot really occur in the same way because it's all blocks. It's also much easier to have cave systems and crevices because of this.
With polygonal surfaces, you need to have it all connect somehow. The textures need to overlap (and transition) properly, you have to ensure light doesn't leak through the geometry, and then there's LOD stuff and other renderer concerns.
How is that compared to Insurgency? I was thinking of picking it up.
it's basically insurgency in ww2, but with more/less.

Then I might just play Insurgency when that goes on sale. Does it still have much of a community?

yeah, it still has a decent community, numbers always jump up when it's on sale.
normally i wouldn't shill an early access game so hard, but day of infamy is not your typical ea game.

Very similar gameplay wise.
I bought it because I could get it for $13 USD from getting the New World Interactive bundle + $3 from selling cards

Average attempt at moving a BTR in SQUAD.

The BTR flew in the sky outside of the map. We all died.
Should I buy Squad? I like both Arma and Battlefield but never played PR.
I would wait until it's properly finished and left EA, there are still many things unfinished and unoptimized, and right now teamwork on public servers is barely functional.
Should I buy Squad? I like both Arma and Battlefield but never played PR.
Nah. Wait (at the very least) the optimization and vehicles unfuck patch.
It's not a bad early access at all, though. There's just no point in buying it now.

The problem with Ansel, as you might have noticed, is that you lose all screen space and post processing shaders when taking those high res shots. No bloom, no AO, reflections, etc. So you get very flat looking screenshots.

SSR i understand, but surely you can maintain stuff like AO and bloom?
This worked just fine in Crysis.
