I've always liked it.
Is it just me, or is Halo on PC not that popular at all? There are only like 80 people on right now, I remember custom edition like 5 years ago no matter what time of day, it had at least 300 people playing, And that's years after launch, this just came out a couple months ago and it seems, dead.
Keep in mind that Halo CE is now 16 years old....

…and yet BUNGIE was the one who patched it after GameSpy servers died.
That announcer pack is amazing, i'm gonna have to buy it.

Because gearbox is a shit
Because gearbox is a shit
Gearbox had zero control over the game after about 2005 or so. Only reason Bungie was able to patch it was because Roger Wolfson kept one of the build machines. He's pretty much the only reason the game is still online.

Halo CE on the PC is actually kind of wonky thanks to Gearbox

The only thing they truly fucked up is the shaders. Everything else is on Microsoft.

What about how the game is 60fps but the animations are all 30fps?
Was playing a game on a remake of Battle Creek, everything's going fine, then BAM suddenly on the desktop. no crash message or anything just straight to desktop.

343 didn't fix that in anniversary until a post launch update. Most people didn't complain about that until several years later.
also current player count in CE

I don't really have anything to say because I'm still yet to play Halo 5.
I don't think enhanced mobility belongs in Halo. My main problem with the thrusters in the game is how lame they are. When you're doing boosting you just stop, I'd prefer to slide a bit rather then get this awful stop.
So after some registry keys got corrupted and ruined Win10, running the antimalware uninstalled H5F
Guess I won't be reinstalling it, it's been fun
All the Halo games after Halo 1 have an off centre crosshair, it isn't just the PC version of Halo 2. Either Halo 4 or Halo 5 centred it again.
Bungie gave a reason why, but I don't recall what it was.
I'm pretty sure it was because they wanted to make sure players can see what's above them better due to the higher emphasis on verticality compared to most shooters of its type.
I really want to play H5F but I'm stuck without a computer that has Win10... every update to the game makes me more envious
I want to play but ive got a shit graphics card.
Halo in general has lost quite a bit of it's original popularity, what with it's thunder being stolen by the newer call of duties and even titanfall, not to mention the bad reputation halo 4 and 5 have garnered.
I think this Halo 2 mess is a big part of the reason. They released a bad port of a 2004 game far too late in 2007 when you had stuff like Crysis and Modern Warfare, which were a whole generation ahead. Even in 2005 it would look outdated compared to Doom 3, FEAR, Quake 4, Far Cry, half Life 2... It probably didn't sell because of it, and MS made a "logical" conclusion it is all because of the players lack of interest and not their shitty port, and they stopped releasing it on PC.

This is correct. And just like the automatic flashlight shutting down, it is basically fixing an non existing issue. I wouldn't mind it if it weren't causing the exact opposite effect when increasing the FOV. You can see in the picture I posted it makes me aim at the ground.

I understand what he's saying and I agree with him, enhanced mobility is not the future for Halo. But he jumps between points so rapidly, one moment he says they should make a spin-off game for the small community of people that still want classic Halo, and in the next moment he more or less says the entire industry wants it and everyone will love it. The issue with enhanced mobility is more with Sprint and Spartan Charge, sprint ruining maps and Spartan Charge being too powerful. Thrusters and clamber are perfectly fine, so long as the former gets an improvement.
Eventually, "new classic Halo" will suffer the exact same problems. Halo 3 with weapon abilities jumped to Halo Reach with loadouts, Halo 4 jumped from Reach to add fully customizable loadouts and Halo 5 scrapped that and added enhanced mobility. Why? Because the industry moved on each time. Reach could be attributed to Bungie simply not giving a fuck and trying to get it out the door, but there wasn't anywhere else that you could really change the game. New classic Halo will lose its appeal, and whatever company developing it will try to shake up the game to stay relevant.
I'm not sure I understand people wanting 343 to fail so that a new Halo can somehow 'rise' from its ashes. That's not how IPs work.
If they aren't profitable they will stay dead. That's what happened to Firefly, that's what's happening to Stargate and that's what will happen to Halo if it falls to pieces.
What you NEED is renewal. And as long as people keep complaining, companies will see the need; people wanted the old style and it's starting to look like they are returning to it.
What you DON'T need is people shitting on everything a company does, telling it to die, that the employees are cancer and all members involved are allied with Satan, because as it turns out, bad decisions are rarely instigated by an entire group at once - they need someone to start it. THAT'S who you need to talk to.

This gives you a free Windows 10 upgrade for free, and the silly thing is you don't have to fill in any form or check any boxes, you literally just click the button and it gives you an exe for the upgrade installer. Don't let the whole "Assistive technology" thing make you think it'll be some weird version of W10, it's just a flat upgrade to W10.
An official upgrade, completely for free, left wide open on microsoft's site

Oh, it's not that. I'd just buy a copy of the OS or something normally (or do what you suggested) but 1) I only have one computer and one hard drive right now and I don't want to modify what is currently a working setup, and 2) my OS is already slightly unstable after a bit of a mishap 2 years ago and I've heard horror stories about OS upgrading rather than fresh installs. I'm looking to build a new computer within the next year and I'll probably put Win10 on that, but right now I'm not really in the position to do that.

god dammit
I'm a bit fed up of the halo community not really agreeing on everything, so I'm in the process of making a mega-survey to cover all bases in an effort to figure out what the community actually wants.
Please suggest some ideas on questions to include.
Well what is the survey about, specifically? Or is that the problem, that what you're trying to cover is so broad that you don't immediately know what you want to ask?
Stuff like favourite game, what you liked about it, least favourite and what you disliked about it would be a good start.
What features you would like to see removed, added, readded, suggestions for the REQ system going forward (no REQs, hybrid or current system, etc), preferred artstyle, opinion on Halo 5 as of Monitor's Bounty (scale of 1 to 10?), opinion on 343's current state, whether you think they've improved as a company and how much, whether or not 343 should get more direct involvement from ex-Bungie staff such as Joseph Staten and Marty O'Donnell, etc.

Well there's 2 parts to the community, the ones that like Bungie games and the ones that are wrong
and the ones that are wrong
..Really man?
Well there's 2 parts to the community, the ones that like Bungie games and the ones that are wrong
Ignoring that comment, I'm trying to unify the two to figure out what everyone agrees on.

See above. If we can all agree on something then we can make sure any future Halo titles get what we want

Another issue is that there are more splits than just 'modern halo' and 'old halo'
Like he bundled reach with modern halo, which make me kind of gag; like honestly? I loved reach to bits, and it still felt a lot like classic halo to me, but bundling that with the disaster that was halo 4 feels like an insult to me.
The only honest to god physical divide that can be quantified in this community is bungie halo vs post-bungie halo, trying to squeeze other games into your definition of a 'here is where halo went wrong' list is honestly just biased opinion.
