So I've been playing through Halo 1 again, having not done so in ages.
I forgot how hard this game nosedives in the second half, holy shit.
Rocket Launcher Flood make me cry.
EDIT: Spoilers are for real out in the wild now, confirmed by people who have the game (Halo Canon, HiddenXperia, Haruspis). Time to go dark everyone.
So despite us knowing it would be the case, they confirmed that there will be non cosmetic mirco transactions for Halo Wars 2. I feel as though though it really is going to be pay 2 win in this game if you're playing Blitz. Every pack that has duplicates goes towards you getting a better rank for that card, giving it more health and better firepower. How did 343 think this would be a good idea?

Is it really 343's fault though? We know 343's Jeremy Cook and Kevin Grace are art director and narrative director, respectively, but we don't know who's calling the shots for the multiplayer.

microtransaction stuff like that is 99% of the time a publisher call. I dont think a dev ever wants to have to put that shit in their game, but when you have Microsoft breathing down the back of your neck expecting you to make X number of dollars every quarter, they probably dont have much of a choice.

I work as a programmer
Why are you defending 343i? Who only has 1 decent game out of all of the games they've made.
If i was a game dev, I'd put micro-transactions in without publisher interference, if it was the kind of game that'd support it.
Dev's need mullah as much as publishers.

Defending 343i isn't simply a matter of whether or not they've made quality content. It's a matter of whether or not they're responsible for what they've been accused of.
Over my time in the Halo fanbase I've seen 343 blamed for virtually everything, for beginning the fall of Halo, retconning the Forerunners into aliens, for declaring the old artstyle non-canon, among other things. They've done some terrible shit too, like resurrecting Guilty Spark, Halo 4's multiplayer, Month of Mythic and the abomination that was Halo 5's plot. It's better to blame them for the things they were responsible for instead of just piling shit on because they don't have the best track record.
343i WORKS for Microsoft. They're not Microsoft. Just like how an employee for a company isn't necessarily a representative of that company.
I don't think i've ever met or heard of a developer adding microtransactions into a game except for these three reasons:
The publisher forced them to(most AAA games)
Blatant cash grab, don't actually give a shit about the game(Mobile Games)
Need the microtransaction money to fund another, more ambitious project(example: Ace Combat: Infinity's MTs paying for Ace Combat 7's development)
Halo clearly isn't a blatant cash grab, and they don't have a more ambitious project than a mainline halo game, so chances are....
Don't even engage Spartan. He always comes out with the "I work in the industry" excuse whenever people call him out on being stupid.
Let him live in his dream world, there's no point arguing with him.

Meh, it was 2005. A different time. Linkin park was still unironically dark to people. Let that sink in.

For those worried about spoilers, there aren't any in the tracklisting at least from what I can tell
The only tracks I can think that might allude to some spoilers are [sp]Demonslayer, which sounds as if some Spartan will be killed[/sp] and [sp]Catastrophic Failure which just makes me think something shit's gonna happen for the SOF crew, that or it's a death screen track[/sp]
I haven't looked at any potential spoilers so I can't confirm, the soundtrack itself though reminds me a bit of Halo 4

From what Haruspis wrote, the story is very much a merge of Halo CE and Halo 4's plots. The militaristic and isolated feeling of CE, and the character-driven narrative of Halo 4.
[sp]I think Antediluvian is probably the most interesting of the titles. Antediluvian means "of or belonging to the time before the biblical Flood.", yet nothing on the Ark is from before the Flood, amd it was confirmed that the Flood aren't going to show up so that's a dead-end too if it means anything. There's only one thing I can think of that could be listed as "before the Flood" and even then, it's speculation at best as to who Mendicant Bias was created from.[/sp]
Oh, and Catastrophic Failure is from the Atriox VS Red Team fight, which is now officially viewable.

It's less than a day's wait for those with Ultimate Edition so on the topic of spoilers I'm gonna throw out some rampant speculation on what I think's I can expect
[sp]Atriox isn't going to die and The Banished are going to take the place of the Covenant in Halo 6, Atriox will live to play an antagonist role in Halo 6[/sp]
[sp]Created and/or Cortana will show up somehow and become allies with the Banished, Warden and prometheans show up[/sp]
[sp]Spirit of Fire crew reopens the portal from Ark to Earth, classic Halo and modern Halo merge[/sp]
[sp]Red Team or at least one member of Red Team dies[/sp]
[sp]No mentions or appearance of Mendicant Bias[/sp]
[sp]Isabel sacrifices herself in some way, something to do with the Created happens with her[/sp]
[sp]Cliffhanger ending leading to Halo 6[/sp]

I mean, they kind of are ruining everything, though. We now have to deal with the god awful Created bullshit, the terrible looking designs, etc. etc.
Like, who the fuck thought it was a good idea to throw Halo 4 out the window? It had a decent story despite being a little heavy handed on the expanded universe.
Not to mention that Halo 5 launched with a pitiful amount of content compared to its predecessors and then added old features the other games had as DLC.
But hey, it's free so it's all good! Right? Right...?
Other questionable shit they've done:
- Keeping sprint and armor abilities
- Not launching with Big Team Battle
- Not making any dedicated maps for BTB
- Not changing BTB starts from BR/AR to AR/Magnum
- Launching without social arena playlists
- Remixing old maps instead of making actual new ones
- RNG packs for unlocking cosmetics
- Fireteam Osiris
- Taking a full year to do anything about horrible team balancing in Warzone
- Taking months to bring Warzone Firefight to a manageable difficulty
- A completely unnecessary change in designs
- Finally adding classic helmets and then taking them away after two weeks in an obvious attempt to get people to spend money on them
I've pretty much lost all hope for the main series. Sure, 343's games have the Halo name on them,
but they sure as hell don't feel like Halo to me.

- Most people like sprint and enhanced mobility, check the Halo poll
- Halo 5 was a competitively focused game, BTB does not fit with that philosophy, neither does social arena playlists, given the typical Publisher-forced hard launch date, they prioritized what needed to be in at launch and what did not
- If they did you'd bitch that they weren't good
- Cool so the part that you would have to pay for is cosmetics only, the way it should be, which is the best possible solution 343i could have done with the Microsoft order to add microtransactions
- Subjective opinion, suck a dick
- Warzone not a priority to the team compared to competitive balances
- Warzone not a priority to the team compared to competitive balances

- You had to spend money on them either way, wtf are you talking about
You're in the vast minority, the Halo Poll shows only a tiny handful of individuals follow your thinking

I would find it unlikely that The Banished would ally with the A.I that think of themselves as our benevolent "gods" given there views on the Forerunners.
about to get a xbone with the master chief collection and finally play through all the halo games since i've never played any of them

If you're going to cite a poll, link it, because I have evidence that proves the contrary:
See here

So it's clearly not as cut and dry as you're making it to be.
Just because it's a "competitively focused game" doesn't justify not giving attention to something that's been a staple of the series since it launched in 2001.
Bungie was capable of creating a wide variety of maps for both arena combat and larger scale battles in their standard three year development cycle for Halo games.
I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the same from 343 since they had three years between Halo 4 and Halo 5. Same applies to social playlists.
"If they did you'd bitch that they weren't good."
Nice straw man argument.
"Warzone not a priority to the team compared to competitive balances"
Citation, please.
"Subjective opinion, suck a dick"
One that I'm fairly sure I'm not in the minority for.
"You had to spend money on them either way, wtf are you talking about"
Are you dumb? You could spend 150k RP or $10 on the pack to get them all. Removing the pack after two weeks (and not putting them in the REQ pool) makes it blatantly obvious they want people to spend money on them.
Greed at its finest.
Lastly, if 343's take on Halo is so well liked, why is the total population absolute trash compared to the Bungie days? Reach saw a small/moderate decline from Halo 3, but Halo 4 absolutely tanked
after a few weeks. Now we see that Halo 5 doesn't even appear in the top ten most played games on Xbox Live, a little over a year since it came out.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/most-played/games/xbox
So how do you rationalize that?
