Halo is supposed to be a slower game. A better way to make it feel faster would be increasing the FOV and upping the base movement speed, not fucking up the gameplay and map design with sprint.
You are right when comparing to twitch shooters, but Halo has always been fast in kill time
Bungie did that, assuming you're talking about Wargame simulations. They have been a thing in Halo games since Halo 2, 10 maps in halo 2 were war games, 4 maps in Halo 3 were wargames.
Except it was 343 who declared that they were, not Bungie. The whole "War Games" bit didn't exist until Halo 4 came into being.

You're whining over a lore decision that makes perfect sense, a small snippet of lore that gives context to the multiplayer
Though this thread might appreciate this drawing:

The only way multi-player being in lore training Sims have affected the actual game play of halo is the lack of Elites. Even then if they wanted to add them in the next game they could just say like "Elites from the Swords of Sanghellios were invited to join in Spartan training exercises"
How does having war games ruin the lore? Militaries do it all the time in real life.
343 fucked up a lot, but that isn't one of them
I just felt like it wasn't needed. Less is more in this case. Especially in 4 how they made blue/red wolf and unicorn for their icons.

It's literally has no bearing on the main story or gameplay though. It's a small refence in some of the map descriptions you can completely ignore. Really don't get why of all the things in the game this is something we're choosing to complain about.

I am actually quite surprised how humanity some hasn't tried to form some kind of relationship with the Swords, having elites taking rank within the UNSC or even having some division devoted to Sangheili support, hell Sangheili are already living on Earth and shit (I think Hoya mentions something about elites in Rio in the very first seconds of Spartan ops)

An early version of Halo CE had a machete in it

With the idea of Elites coming to Earth in my head, I can't help but imagine them walking around in those awful floral tourist shirts. :v:

I can't tell if this is a joke

It was actually a concept around bungie era/pre 343 novels. that 343 completely implemented.
War game simulations are an actual military thing.

he wasnt talking about literal swords though, he meant the Swords of Sanghelios, as in the faction of Elites
Oh God I completely misread that hahahaha
Halo is not supposed to be a "slow game." Play a 2v2 on Prisoner or a 4v4 Midship BRs and tell me once if the game ever feels slow. The game started to become slow when the kill times got longer as the series progressed and gimmicky shit like armor abilities and equipment was added.
To those calling Halo 1-3 slow, I recommend you partially reevaluate.
Halo 3 is arguably the worst in terms of movement. With the low FOV and low speed it's very hard for me to go back and play. I can tolerate the campaign but the multiplayer is a different story on MCC.
Halo 2 got it right. Going back to Halo 2 multiplayer feels like a true Halo experience for me. If they kept the movement boost like H2 had with a FOV around 90, I think that would be a sprint less game most people would be happy with.
FOV has a lot to do with simulating a pace. ODST's higher FOV makes the game appear "faster" compared to H3 without actually tinkering with movement values.

"fuckfuckfuck why is his glowing he's gonna cut me to ribbons with this space magic bullshit and all I've got is this stupid machete"
The comparison to end all comparisons.

But are the Halo 3 map dimensions the same?
But are the Halo 3 map dimensions the same?
No, truth is larger than heretic to accommodate sprint and other ablilities.
Point of the gif is that because the maps are larger and base movement speed is slower, the game itself is slower now. Also, by upping movement speed to 120%, the need for sprint is removed entirely.
Increasing the movement speed to 120% after the maps have already been expanded to accommodate sprint... :why:
You basically end up with the files sizes for the maps being needlessly large and the game dumbed down.
That's the point, why make the maps bigger and spartans slower to accommodate for sprint when you can make the maps normal sized, make spartans faster and just get rid of sprint?
The 120% speed is to show you can have the same speed without sprinting.
That's a disingenuous over simplification. Sprint, at least in its current iteration isn't just "spartans move faster now." The fact that it now has a built in downside and is component in spartan charge means you can't remove it without just dumbing down the game.
I thought Spartan charge was also unpopular.
I understand that you can't recharge your shields or aim or fire while sprinting, but you shouldn't have to redesign every facet of the game around a feature most people don't actually want.

Are you telling me a 1 squarefoot map has the same filesize as a 1000 square foot map?
If they've got the same polycount and textures then yeah probably
but surely a bigger map would have a bigger poly count in the end because the mappers won't design their maps with flat walls
I'd like to say that I don't mind sprint being in the game, but if the majority of people don't like, or want, sprint in Halo then maybe they should listen to that advice once in a while.
No saying whether that's actually the case or if it will ever happen.
Are you telling me a 1 squarefoot map has the same filesize as a 1000 square foot map?
No, he's saying there isn't a 1 to 1 correlation of map size to file size
a 1 square foot map could, in theory be the same file size as one that is 1000 square feet, if the 1000 square foot map has no modeled detail and the 1 square foot is drastically over-modeled.
