Not for 4's, definitely for 5's.

No, everyone has different tastes. Most of us don't care much for 4 and 5, but that's just opinions.
Not for 4's, definitely for 5's.
That's odd, I always thought 4 was far worse than 5.
Idk man, 4 made weird decisions that are contraversial, but 5 is an actual structureless mess of heelturn character motivations and bad ABC tv show editing.
Watch Halo 5's intro cinematic. Every shot is about the same length. That's a huge fucking no-no. They even seem to cut away to shots that don't even matter just for the sake of having something to cut to. Some shots never resolve on a subject, the edits are unmotivated, and that's just the consistent technical errors of the cut scenes in terms of cinematography. That's not even touching on the story.
Having re-played Halo 4 after the dust is cleared, I think it's actually really good. The Didact and everything related to him is pretty groan worthy, but the UNSC side of things are more fleshed out and authentic than ever. People talk to each other like they're people and not just one-liner dispensers.
Sorry Jason and Joe.
Spartan ops was a different story; people are just one-liner dispensers and Palmer is fucking JarJar 2.0. They aren't even good one-liners either.

0.6 was delayed :/
i like some of the helmet designs(soldier, oceanic, fotus, etc) and the shotgun isn't all that bad, TBH i didn't like reach's stubby barreled shotgun. though i didn't like the fact that customization was more limited in 5 (which eventually died down), but the addition of several assassinations and stances was neat addition in my opinion. although i know some of you aren't thrilled about it, I'm looking forward to the next installment.
besides, I'm not giving up on a series that helped to mend the relationship with me and my brother over something as frivolous as a change in art direction.

Unfortunately we had no real choice. We didn't want to release a shitty update with a ton of hidden bugs, crashes, and visual glitches that ruin the experience. Sorry to all those who were anticipating the release this month, but it's not far off now. We hope to nail this on the first try - without having to shit out a barely tested quick fix that may break things even further.
For example, when we released 0.5, AMD cards weren't even tested (because, almost unbelievably, no one on the entire dev team or tester pool had one) - we had extensively tested everything on Nvidia cards only to find out AMD cards broke the way some maps looked. If we had tested it more thoroughly and extensively, this issue could've been avoided. That was a much smaller update (this is the largest update in the history of ED) and it still had hidden problems.
I am glad that we probably will never see the Didact ever again, everything about him and his backstory was aa mess of a hundred new concepts that gave you no reason to care because at the end of the day he was just an evil dude. Felt like a massive waste of time for all that backstory when you forgot to make the character interesting
Ancient humans is a bad joke.
I dont understand this argument. Halo 2 was supposed to have sprint, they added dual wielding and equipment in 2 and 3. Reach added armor abilities. It only makes sense to have more gameplay features as the games progress, it's fun.
I think Halo 4 and especially 5 were great steps forward for gameplay, however the art style and story were shit on to hell and back. H5 mp is one of my favorites already.
I think they confirmed at one point that he is coming back eventually? Don't quote me on that but I thought I heard that.
I kinda liked spartan ops.
Not just for the massive amount of xp grinding (although that was a big part), but because it actually was kinda fun running through them.
I would have had a better time if the AI behaved more like their Halo 3 counterparts. It was boring just blowing through seemingly mindless autoaim bots.
I suspect there was more going on under the hood than theytip off, but they really don't tip it off.
Halo 5's MP might be great but it ain't halo
New tech could've much more tastefully been added to the game without being so fucking... gah.
Spartans being real fast ain't a problem, it's the idea that they went from ten thousand ton armour to feather-weight shit with gravity thrusters for use in possitive G environments. Why waste the suit's energy resources when you could give it stronger shields, a cloaking device to match the elites/brutes, Maybe a brute chieftain invincibility device for every spartan, or simply just better sensory information for the Heads up display. What sane military opts out of any of this for thrusters? Do they see Zealots with better shields and go "Oh, we should invest in truster packs?". Imagine WWII tank development only instead of better armour and main gun, the commanders at some point go "our next tank'll be lighter and we're giving them nitrous boosts"
All the permutations of spartan armour shows that they give absolutely no fuck for logistics in a game that sold itself as a sci-fi shooter about the military . You're a superSOLDIER not a superHERO. It probably costs a trillion spacos just to design a mjolnir gauntlet, It ain't medieval plate where you can just hammer out whatever you think'll fit the guy (even then, medieval armourers would go with something practical all the time cause every bit of useless steel would be a literal burden). And this is even more important when you've got more spartans thanks to the 4's and you've got to order a thousand helmets to your navy in fuck-knows region of space. The reason why Bungie basically did cosmetic permutations as add ons to already existing armour was because It'd fucking work that way
Changing the engines of pelicans would've been alright if they didn't change the rest.
Making everything more futuristic for the sake of it (shotgun design especially springs to mind) is just fucking dumb tho. Again; Logistics. Looking kwl ain't in a military's business. Halo is about the military and military guys, not a beauty parade.
So like, with this criticism of the shit that's in halo 5 multiplayer, it's not good halo. 343 should've made something else and we would've loved it but they wanted the brand recognition while throwing out all the central themes to the series.
I've been missing halo recently, so I got eldewrito.
I'm not sure if it just needs a lot of work, or the wrong tree's being barked up. I noticed there's a few mods, but I think that's the wrong idea and people should be trying to contribute to the base game (or taking it and making their own version of things). With no disrespect to the guys who got the ball going, the game isn't in a good state.
Also all the servers promised me terrible ping, which admittedly could be my end, so I mostly mucked around in forge trying stuff out.
Also. Who's wondering if Halo 6'll be canceled because of disappointing sales and reception of the 5th game?
I mean, the version you are playing is 0.5 and it's been fairly dead due to the lack of updates, theres a new update coming soon with more base game features restored and expanded forge/optipmizations/fixes.

Most of the modders either aren't capable of helping the team out, or already are

As one of the guys who got the ball rolling, as you put it, I can tell you that the current version you played feels like a very early alpha build of the game, while the new update (releasing soon) feels like a finished product.
Give this thread a read. This update is going to basically remove all janky shit that feels unfinished, and make the whole game feel like a solid, polished experience that rivals that of an official retail release.

I believe Grim mentioned some time ago that they came up with the idea for what the armour's function would be before they designed the actual armour. Assuming it's not bullshit (probably is), 343's art team has a very peculiar idea of how to express function through aesthetics.
One thing notable about the style is that spartans look way more like superheroes. The suit is skintight at the waste and bulky as fuck around the chest, giving a more crazy V figure. I guess advanced movement just goes with that theme. One more way 343 miss the fucking point. You could easily replace chief with Johnson or the rookie in Halo 1/2/3 and the story'd make sense, if a little Medal of Honour in realism (replace the melee with an energy dagger and consider a shield for equal gameplay)
I don't quite agree with the militaristic wank-fest, but that's what it fucking was and it was great (the brain says no but the heart says this was fucking awesome.) Bungie Halos were a story of all humans, be they American, Australian, Australian, South African, or British-but-voiced-by-Ron-Perlman , coming together to fight off an overwhelming, religiously genocidal group of outsiders.
4/5's about American superheroes fighting monsters and super villains.
i think thrusters are fun for gameplay, I always enjoy fast dodge moves etc. the groundpound move is retarded though.
Thrust would be better if you slid a bit afterwards. I absolutely hate how you come to a dead stop
i think thrusters are fun for gameplay, I always enjoy fast dodge moves etc. the groundpound move is retarded though.
I think it would be more fitting if spartans were just more capable of quick bursts of movement.
Here have a preview of my ElDewrito 0.6 forge Map

Hopefully 0.6 releases soon
You know I honestly think 343 should of never changed the entire plasma sounds as it would be like changing a lightsaber to sound like dubstep.
Has anyone played Awakening the nightmare, or indeed HW2?
What's the story like for each of them?

Awakening the nightmare is a self contained short story that gave us a nice amount of Flood lore.
