oh you did NOT just diss Wrex, Tali and Garrus.
Wrex and Joker are the only standouts for me. Garrus hits his stride in ME2, other than that he's carried by a great voice actor. I do not like Tali in ME1 at all.
oh you did NOT just diss Wrex, Tali and Garrus.
To be fair, the latter two really didn't come into their own until ME2. That said, the ME1 squaddies did feel more immediately likable than the Andromeda cast imo. Cora is intentionally cold so that doesn't bother me, but nothing about Liam, PB, or even Vetra was immediately endearing. And hell, first time you interact with Liam on-ship you sit down for beers like best buddies with no option to reject? I dunno, I only made it about 7 hours into the game before getting bored with the trial, but there's something about the writing that just throws me off. For those of you much further into the game, without spoilers, does Ryder ever get true renegade/jackass options? Because what I played and a lot of what I've seen paints Ryder as a bit of a boyscout that gets along with everyone by default and can't call them out on their bullshit.
I think one of the main thing this game needs is more brutality. One of the central themes of the trilogy, if not THE central theme, was sacrifice. Even at their most heroic, Shepard has to make several hard choices, several serious sacrifices, and do some pretty terrible things. Like Bahak. Or deciding between Salarian support or the future of the Krogan. Granted, I've not beaten the game yet, but so far the only real brutal moments have been [sp]Alec's sacrifice, and choosing wether to lie to your comatose twin or not.[/sp] Which are relatively light for Mass Effect. Maybe it gets harsher later on, but ME1 didn't pull ANY punches. I mean the first act alone can, depending on your choices and mission order, result in Shepard committing genocide and Liara watching her mother die within the span of 10 minutes, and Shepard massacring an entire colony.
I like Tali in ME1 the best. She's a nervous, inexperienced gypsy in a strange land. I feel like she got really fanservicey and uncharacteristically bold in 2/3, but then again there was a long period of time between the two games so I dunno. Still. I agree Garrus hits his stride in 2, but he's a great character even in 1, and you just can't beat Wrex. ME2's squaddies are great all around, though. I guess ME1 just imparts a sense of mystery and wonder which 2 only slightly manages and 3 doesn't manage at all. 4 just makes me go "bleh"
I like Tali in ME1 the best.
You and I will probably fundamentally disagree on a lot of what characters we find enjoyable, then. I only ever bring Wrex, Liara, or Garrus with me in ME1. I cannot STAND any of the other squaddies. At least Andromeda just has Cora "Did You Know I Was An Asari Huntress" Harper.
A lot of what made the trilogy so good was the multi-game character arcs.
If only there was option to bring only Drack along Hell, just fill the Tempest with grumpy old Krogans
[t]https://i.redd.it/328lmxf4n0oy.jpg[/t] It'd be funny if it weren't so irritating.
This thing. I don't know how to explain it, but this like eats at me. I adore Mass Effect. This is inexcusable. Like, the fucking GALL to do this to a universe fucking kills me. At least when ME3 was bad, there was an explanation, at least, a feasible one that could be pulled. Kai Leng is someone's OC insert, he's atrocious and is part of one of the worst bossfights in video game history context wise. The ending was Mac Walters and Casey just going on an ego trip and writing a nonsense ending on a napkin without any input. The game was super rushed leading to there being no sidequests, shitty visuals at times, tons of bugs. But this? No, there is no level of crunch that removes any care on this level. Someone actively decided that it wasn't worth giving Asari, Salarians or Turians, hell, even Angaran unique faces out of Squad members. Fuck that person. That is a level of bad that should never, ever make it into a game
At times the writing in Andromeda is just plain unreal. Like, I entered into the Vortex for the first time and had the complete conversation with the bartender. After I was done, I was all like "What the fuck did just happen? What person sane of mind would say such things? Are they enacting a parody of some sort?"
Asari, Salarians or Turians, hell, even Angaran
Speaking of which, are there Hanar in this game at all? Batarians? Quarians? Drell? Volus? Elcor? I've heard supposedly they're on ships that left later but that sounds to me like a lazy excuse to just not include them if there aren't even a few scattered around the other colony ships like there were Asari on the human ship.
Okay, Elaaden's unique mechanic of [sp]using the shade to avoid the heat hazard[/sp] is goddamn clever.
http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Haestrom ??
I forgot about that. Either way, it's a neat little modifier that deserved a return.
Vetra is adorable.

Hell, even Dragon Age 2, a game that was rushed out in less than 2 years, didn't have this problem. It's especially sad when you look at Dragon Age Inquisition which also used the Frostbite engine; that game had customization and character variety bursting at the seams. 2 voices per gender, 4 playable races, a phenomenally good character creator...and then we get this. I understand it's different teams but I mean come on. When you're dealing with such a generally respected and beloved property, even AFTER the ME3 debacle, I expect more care to be taken.

Hell Inquisition was pretty good game(IMO) that gave a lot you can do with your companions. Change their weapons and armor. Either look like a bunch of Grey Warden cosplayers or your standard merc troupe. But at the very least you could do that, hell ME2 and 3 had alternate outfits you could get during the course of the game. It's just super lack luster from we get to see At the very least most the Tempest crew are good compliments to eachother or decently rounded characters. Kallo and Suvi really should've had more interactions or more ability to move about the ship if they're just in orbit.
Kinda amazes me, but it seems to imply that they were worked on by different teams.
They were. Andromeda is made by Bioware Montreal, who up until now hasn't made a game of their own. They'd been a support team.
They were. Andromeda is made by Bioware Montreal, who up until now hasn't made a game of their own. They'd been a support team.
I wonder why.
I wonder why.
IIRC, Edmonton is working on a new IP.
They were. Andromeda is made by Bioware Montreal, who up until now hasn't made a game of their own. Because again I really enjoyed DA:I despite it having it's token characters I enjoy them, just like Ryder's crew but DA:I had far more interesting side characters outside your main troupe.
Just got the game, had to lower graphics to medium so game would stop stuttering despite having a GTX 1070. Left the Nexus, came back and game froze. Ugh.
Vetra is adorable.
[sp]Her laugh when you bounce around the Asteroid in the Nomad caught me off guard.[/sp] She's great
:snip:
Vetra is adorable.
Vetra and Jaal are precious and are way up there with Garrus and Tali.
Vetra and Jaal are precious and are way up there with Garrus and Tali.
Double heresy right here. First time I heard Jaal and Vetra banter in the Nomad I immediately fast travelled to a forward station, and swapped Jaal out for Cora. Those mandibles are mine, you other-galaxy fuck.
Honestly I don't really care much for the Angaran's and how Jaal puts it across that they're extremely open with their emotions, no matter how annoying it can come across at times or how much of babies they seem, like I don't mind Jaal too much but it's like, grow a fucking set and shut up please, shit's going on with your people and has been for a while, but you're doing something about it and I'm aiding you in doing so, dial back the pissing the moaning please.

I fixed Havarl for them, I fought the Kett off Veold, I saved the Moshae, I killed the Archon and a bunch of his commanders. Even with all that the Moshae gets in my face about not appointing an Angaran as the representative at the end. Fuck off, you've done nothing but demand that you should be in charge despite showing no ability to lead while other people did everything for you. Jaal's a cool guy, when he stops complaining, but the rest of the Angara are so full of themselves it's hard to not hate them on principal.[/sp]
IIRC, Edmonton is working on a new IP.
They are; and Corey is the gameplay lead, so there's that.
