• Mass Effect Megathread: He said "I should go." Do I sound like that?
Nor that the very finale is going to change And yes, I'm prevented to replay the whole thing again just for how rushed and unsatisfying the Mass Effect 3 ending is
I have not touched the Mass Effect trilogy since 2012. The ending completely ruins all playability.
Personally, I find the Mass Effect the first general mechanics to be extremely ... wooden and unplesant. So much that in my previous walkthroughts playing the original game was a chore more than anything else I mean, the side quests are repetitive and copy-pasted, the various classes have only very light diffferences between them, biotic powers absolutely break the game should you go for them or take a biotic squad member with you, planetary exploration is dull, the so called "rpg elements" are just there to annoy you for the first levels and then they disappear (like the aim "stat" for sniper rifles), ... I'm from the camp that consider Mass Effect 2 a great gameplay improvement
The combat in ME1 wasn't great, but I would have preferred they kept and improved the inventory system. Having a vast array of equipment made the game feel a bit larger. Had they have just had more models. There's a thing that really bothered me. The prefab buildings on the exploration missions. All the bunkers had the same layout. Like really, they used the exact same room for every bunker. I can understand recycling assets, if its already of good quality and can be disguised easily or re-purposed. (using an eviscerator and a folded up grenade launcher to make the guns on the kodiak are a shoddy example but it shows it works) but when you literally have the same building, on the same terrain with the same people in it for every mission, you know you're bloody lazy. Was mass effect 1 ever rushed for launch? I could understand it then, but even then there was a lot of cut corners

The game was pretty large in size all things considered, so I'm not surprised they chose to limit their already quite extensive art assets in order to save on memory space.
I miss the armors in mass effect 1, they looked so ridiculous but yet very appealing. In mass effect 3 its just the typical big, metal-armor that you see almost everywhere. It's still nice, but i just miss the armors in the first game, they were all tight and spandex-ish :v:
I wouldn't have minded the Armor designs if they came from one type of company. Like they were Asari brand. The fact everyone was wearing armor that was so thin you could see every wrinkle and blemish on your enemies' protruding bulges was a tad too silly. Mass effect 2 more or less fixed that since I just threw as many pouches and pads on me as the game would allow
Replaying the trilogy, recruited Thane and as he talked about his disease I had a flashback to a video of that very same scene, but it cuts to Shepard bringing Thane to Jack's loyalty mission where there's a lot of heavy rain, and he just flops over dead instantly, and I just start laughing for a good five minutes. Does anyone know where I can get that video? I've completely forgotten what it's called.

[editline]9:22AM[/editline] As I was getting back into the series I rediscovered the song "Those Minerals" and also on a fluke discovered that the creators, Kabuto the Python and B.C. made an entire N7 EP Here's a sample, this swung by me completely, Jesus Christ this is great
So my friend got me Mass Effect 3 after years of me avoiding it because it wasn't on Steam (Long Story Short: I just wanted ME3 on Steam, nothing against Origin), and I'm just getting ready to play through the entire trilogy to prep myself. I'll finally get around to playing Mass Effect 3 in like...3 months! Which DLC is worth purchasing for ME3? I already own all the story content for ME2.

I guess it's a matter of taste but I love the Citadel DLC. Other than that Omega is pretty solid. Leviathan had a cool and creepy as hell atmosphere and a pretty satisfying storyline in general
Leviathan - for story. Omega - for gameplay and good design (if you liked Omega in ME2). Citadel - for fun and fanservice.
Omega introduced and killed my waifu in 7 minutes RIP in pepperoni [sp] adjutant-chan [/sp]
Hm, I'm not crazy right, they never explained why Saren and his brother look different from other Turians did they?
You know... I was pretty certain I'd have no interest in this series again after ME3's ending... But after DA:I which, despite some significant issues, I felt was a pretty solid game, I can't help but hold some onto some hope for the next game. That said I also hope it doesn't cling to the same formula as Inquisition. Not only do I have gripes with the way it did things, but I don't think it's how I want Mass Effect to be. I really don't want to see Bioware adopt the Ubisoft approach to game design where they make one model and force it into their games. But as we've heard, they plan on using some of the same elements and have already said it will be open-world to an extent. I just hope it's not filled with boring-ass sidequests like Inquisition.
So I got interested, and played through the trilogy in 3 weeks. Can only say I do not regret it. Really well crafted universe. [sp]And for the endings? They feel more acceptable if seen as the product of a badly coded intelligence made by arrogant cuttlefish. They are the best ideas the same thing that came up with the Reapers had. Hence why they are quite bad all in all (Destroy includes genocide, and may set back technology, or so the kid say; Synthesis involves pulling a Legion in the universe, imposing a choice in everybody in the process; Control may be a nonviolent solution, but is only comfortable if Paragon, and Refusal is basically suicide to prove a point to something with very limited reasoning), but I can live with that. You can't quite make a sequel to them tho.[/sp] So yeah, the Leviathans are massive fools who need to make up for what they did.
Mass Effect 3 has been improved, I see :v:
After a long hiatus, I decided to play some ME3 multiplayer. Surprising to see that there were still people playing, even new ones. I dunno how that one party on Goddess felt when I finished with double the points of the rest combined...

That can mean many things but I fear we will again get large maps with little to do.
I tried to play some ME3 multiplayer last night, but I've got an odd problem. That being, none of the keys or mouse buttons work. I can move the cursor, but that's it. I tried a fresh install but that didn't work, and google has failed me. Anyone else ever have this?
Do you have an AMD card?
Do you have an AMD card?
Yup. As far as I know, nothing's changed since the game worked last, unless I missed something.
I know that input failure, along with getting a black screen was an extant AMD issue, and neither BWE nor AMD ever addressed it.
Any of the novels/comics worth reading?
Last I heard they were very happy with DA:I and ME4 will be even bigger. That can mean many things but I fear we will again get large maps with little to do.
That's the problem with a lot of open world games. However it can't easily be solved by JUST having a lot of things to do in it, since that could mean a lot of fetch-quests and ho-hum content. Personally I'm a favour of medium-sized well-designed environments, places that are memorable like the Spencer Mansion of Resident Evil fame, places that you can explore and get immersed in but not spend 5 minutes gallumping across the countryside picking Elfroot just to get to the next sub-zone. BUT if Mass Effect 4 goes for the huge environment approach, they NEED to implement jetpacks/biotic lifters along with vertical world design.
Any of the novels/comics worth reading?
The novels written by Drew Karpyshyn (Revelation, Ascension, and Retribution) are definitely worth reading, but avoid the one by William C. Dietz (Deception). As for the comics, unless you're either really into comics, really desperate for more Mass Effect lore, or can get them super cheap, I wouldn't recommend them.
I know that input failure, along with getting a black screen was an extant AMD issue, and neither BWE nor AMD ever addressed it.
Are there any fixes? I've been looking since I posted that and haven't found anything. I'd rather not have to buy a new GPU to fully replay the series.
There used to be a workaround but I'm pretty sure the 1.2 patch broke it. Lemme look around.
So I just reinstalled ME3 for the first time since playing it when it came out and I wasn't able to get the English language fix working correctly(I have a Russian version). I tried following the same instructions I did the first time and the only thing I can change is that I make the text turn into numbers. Anyone know of a new method to fix the language? I've tried googling it but haven't been able to find anything other than the same thing I've tried already.
