• Mass Effect Megathread: He said "I should go." Do I sound like that?

Mass effect 3's flaws really left a bad taste in my mouth. I was a huge mass effect fanboy prior to beating it, and now i'm put off of the series to the point where i'm only dimly aware of what's going on with Andromeda. I will say tho, the multiplayer was pretty excellent, Ive been playing it again recently and i'm honestly becoming cautiously optimistic for more mass effect. Running around as one of the Geth, surrounded by people playing as the series' other colourful and interesting alien characters lets me remember what I liked about mass effect without having constant reminders that the series didn't really go anywhere in the end: "oh look, this choice just reskins a boss in the next game. yay."
The problem wasn't because Shepard got PTSD dreams, but on who was it based on. Colonist seeing all of his/her friends and family being killed or taken away? Nah, not that bad. Akuze thresher maws fucking your shit, killing everyone except Shepard and someone else? Who cares Deaths of someone who was ready to prove himself and a council spectre? Meh. A squadmate staying behind on Virmire to make sure the nuke explodes? Who was that person again? Being killed and then resurrected? hey cool, I was revived, but no nightmares or PTSD. Possibly losing countless of squadmates? Oh well. Being forced to kill 300,000 Batarians to stop the Reapers temporarily? Hey, they're assholes, so who gives a shit? A child dies when Shepard is leaving Earth on the Normandy? Can't sleep, why couldn't I save that child? Woe is me. It would have worked if by 2 or 3, you noticed Shepard having PTSD dreams that involved everyone who died. I know it could have been longer and more time consuming for the devs, but for fucks sake, the PTSD dreams in ME3 weren't good in my opinion, but more of annoying.
I usually consider that the child is kind of a pivotal figure, the final straw that made Shepard remember about all those other people you mentioned. How they had piled up while Shepard was busy trying to do his job, and how they suddenly caught up to him when he saw a kid he barely knew get killed for no reason at all by the Reapers. That's the moment when Shepard realized that he's not just a soldier on the job, but the hero that just might save the galaxy and on whose shoulders billions of lives are riding on, and that's when his stress levels start to rise insanely and his depression begins. Or that's what I'd think if I believed the writers gave the story that much thought. Damn it 27X, you're starting to rub off on me.
Wow, wow citadel is a whole other game.
Release date.
On behalf of our teams across Montreal, Edmonton and Austin, I’m excited to announce that Mass EffectTM: Andromeda will be launching in North America on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 and beginning Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Europe. We appreciate your patience (and in fact, even your lack of patience in some instances) as we’ve been focused on completing the game. Here’s a little bit of context into how we’ve gotten here. Mass Effect: Andromeda is our most ambitious Mass Effect game to date. We’re telling completely new stories, creating new characters, new planets, new species, and introducing new gameplay systems. And for the first time, we’re bringing Mass Effect to the FrostbiteTM game engine, an incredible engine that’s delivering a tremendous graphical jump from the trilogy to Mass Effect: Andromeda. To deliver on this, we’re taking all the time we can to make sure you’re getting the best possible experience. Over this holiday break, developers at BioWare took home a version of the game in what we call the “holiday build”. This is a longstanding studio tradition that goes back to the early days of the original Mass Effect. Many load up a PC or console and go home to play as much as possible at their leisure. Coming back from holiday, the feedback has been great. Getting the endorsement from members of our studio, many of whom played key roles on the original trilogy, was definitely a key factor in helping us lock in on the date. Even more exciting for us over the last couple of months has been seeing the excitement build in the community as we’ve started to share more about the game. The passion you have for the franchise continues to drive us. And now, we’re just a couple of months away from delivering a brand new Mass Effect experience to you for the first time in five years – richer, deeper and ready for exploration. We’re excited about how far we are going with the franchise, and we hope you find it’s been worth the wait. See you in Andromeda, Aaryn
Also they'll be showing off "Environments and Gameplay" at the Nvidia CES keynote at 9:30pm est.
That date seems way too soon, especially with how rough the gameplay was

I made peace with myself long ago and came to the conclusion that I'm the only person on Earth who doesn't give a flying fuck about environment exploration in a roleplaying game such as this. This is however not helped, not by a long shot, by the marketing playing the "exploration" and "big environments" card every chance there is [editline]Today[/editline] Given that Andromeda comes out some weeks after my birthday, I could as well "indirectly" ask someone to gift it to me, but I'm being extremely careful this time around and will wait for some solid feedback first
After Inquisition, open exploration worries me
The environments in Inquisition were gorgeous though, I was often blown away with how lush and colorful some of the areas were. Traveling the basically empty world in a lot of those areas sucked, so I hope having a vehicle solves some of that. Could very easily go the other way though, where they make it bigger just because you can go much faster.
Yeah, that's the bizarre thing, the levels themselves are breathtaking. Just completely empty
They got so much flak for DA:I's open world aspects that I hope they've learned some lessons. Not necessarily expecting that, but hoping.
Well, saw the CES showcase. Did have some good snippets, like showing the general skill tree and class layouts. Looks like you can switch profiles (i.e. go from Solider to Infiltrator), but the Biotic routes were blocked probably due to having no biotic ability from the start. Also has a new 'Explorer' class, which will probably be a generic combination suited less to most combat situations. And the guy playing was pretty bad... that, or the controller sensitivity was very low. FOV is close up, but we already know that. And the mission showcased is a Loyalty mission. Aside from that, not a lot of new info was revealed at a glance. Sorry if this isn't very clear, too tired right now.
It looked like there were two types of leveling, profiles that give a bunch of bonuses and are your classic class types: But then assigning skill points was a separate area: Also looks like skill leveling is the same as me3, where ranks 4-6 have choices between two options, which I liked the best of all 3 games. heh, that music in the trailer is totally sascha dikiciyan's
Peebee? I just can't take that name seriously
The ammo counter placement on the hud seems a little bizarre to me.
Release date.
Oh man when will publishers fuck off with staggered release dates for digitally distributed games, it makes no sense why the US would get the game 2 days earlier and the rest of the world has to wait.
I don't like that ship design, It's just too damn round for mass effect.
Oh man when will publishers fuck off with staggered release dates for digitally distributed games, it makes no sense why the US would get the game 2 days earlier and the rest of the world has to wait.
As opposed to asia and far euro getting it a day earlier?
I don't like that ship design, It's just too damn round for mass effect.
It reminds me of
Why would you release a trailer where the player just stands in the enemy's face and shoots it while spamming melee.
I kinda like the ship, but it does seem kind of... elegant for Mass Effect tech. Did they team with the salarians or the asari to build this one instead?
I kinda like the ship, but it does seem kind of... elegant for Mass Effect tech. Did they team with the salarians or the asari to build this one instead?
Pretty sure they did work with the Salarians, Asari and Turians at least. And I believe they have a female Krogan engineer on the Nexus, so they probably also took in the best the galaxy had to offer.
I don't like that ship design, It's just too damn round for mass effect.
Mass Effect has rounds ships. Most notably asari ships: [t]http://i.imgur.com/TxvCtCT.png[/t] And though we don't see Salarian ships, if we look at their weapons it's not hard to assume their ships are pretty curvy as well. And considering the Andromeda Initiative is a multi-species program, it make sense if the Tempest doesn't follow the more angular designs of Human/Turian ships.
I know I kind of shat on the game after the first trailer... but it's still the most exciting upcoming game for me right now. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be an inconsistent mess.
Snip-O
Your logic is flawless. That makes sense to me and I'm genuinely curious if they will have influence from multiplier different species then as quarian ships and technology was of special interest to me. Arc pistol is just so damn useful.
I know I kind of shat on the game after the first trailer... but it's still the most exciting upcoming game for me right now. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be an inconsistent mess.
That's what worries me the most. While I am excited for a new mass effect game, part of me feels like it might just flop. I don't want it to but from what I've seen the game just feels like its lacking.

Just started playing 1 from the start, only ever finished the first game so hopefully I'll get around to playing 2 and 3
