Mass Effect Megathread: He said "I should go." Do I sound like that?

So Drack is 1400+ years old, and the Genophage has been around for 1475 years as of 2185, when the Andromeda Initiative departs.
This is probably significant. Might mean Drack was around to see the Genophage happen.
New briefing
I am getting a feeling that Cora is the new Miranda and Liam is the new Jacob.
the avenger shoots out the barrel that makes sense and there's break action shotguns with shell ejection.
that's all I ever fuckin' wanted, satisfying guns that make some sort of mechanical sense and feel fun to use
dunno whats going on here though

Watching that video on the Andromeda Initiative site is pretty neat. After he finishes talking about each weapon the video pauses, gives you stats and other info
cora seems at least nominally interesting, liam is yet another literally who bioware has to put in every game
but maybe he'll surprise us and turn out to be at least somewhat fun like Beef McHugeFist in 3
I am getting a feeling that Cora is the new Miranda and Liam is the new Jacob.
Liams voice and hotheadedness make him at least 10x more interesting than Jacob already, from what I've read Liam plays well to more rebellious Ryders, like just shooting up corpses at times in conversation. Seriously, the only thing Jacob and Liam have in common is being black, from wha I can tell he's closer to Squatman McGlutes.

Well that is good, at face value though its not just being black its about the character position and purpose.
Cora is the biotic project lead with the fucked up face just like Miranda and Liam is the combat specialist that runs the armory just like Jacob.
It'd certainly be a first. And very clumsy. And you'd probably need to visit the infirmary afterwards.
I mean, you could fuck Morinth and die

that shit is still one of the funniest things that can happen in mass effect, imagine miranda having to report shepards death to the illusive man cos they got mindfucked to death lmao
It's really strange that they changed the Milky Way weapons to use ammo like modern guns rather than thermal clips (even if they were a dumb contrivance).
If it was me I would have kept thermal clips and just had weapon overheat when you ran out of them, and given one of the Andromeda races ammo dependant guns.
Liam is just the black guy from Big Hero 6.

The guy from Big Hero 6 had omniblades as well.
the conspiracy grows
I'm really digging the meaty ragdoll physics. And unique reloads and switchable shoulder camera? Hnnngh

Oh no, the faces are stuck that way now.

Thankfully you'll be able to craft Milky Way guns to use the old overheat system.
Thankfully you'll be able to craft Milky Way guns to use the old overheat system.
Really? If so I'm super hyped for Andromeda. Everything they've shown looks great. Aside from wonky animations and the faces but Bioware never gets those right, I'm not going to expect it now.
Thankfully you'll be able to craft Milky Way guns to use the old overheat system.
I thought that was only if you changed them to laser weapons?
I thought that was only if you changed them to laser weapons?
Possibly? All I recall is one dev saying you could do that in a tweet (specifically saying that the revenant with overheat mechanics was his current go-to gun), he didn't say it needed to be a laser weapon.
A few things I'd like to say, holy shit. The ability to customize the ammo type of your guns like that is really neat. You could have a literal laser pistol, or you could turn your shotgun into a miniature Arc Projector. There's most likely going to be a lot more options that they didn't list, but that's really neat to see.
Adding on to what Janus Vesta said, it does seem odd that they'd by default use the standard Thermal Clip. Unless they're anticipating the Geth have settled in Andromeda without anybody knowing, they'll eventually run out real fast. One explanation is that they could mine the asteroids and manufacture the clips onboard, but they sort of stressed that the ship they've been assigned is basically built to be as sleek as possible, with the design basically screaming "We only have space for the bare minimum, now fuck off before you turn this into a snail."
I'd imagine even incorporating the needed cargo space for significant quantities of materials required to manufacture them alone would significantly alter the speed, let alone the actual industrial equipment needed to do so. I'm curious what they're going to do to explain things, or how there are Milky Way species such as Asari and Krogan that are already there, and clearly not Pathfinders. Anyone have any theories?
Actually here's the lead designer explaining the old-school heat system in crafting
Hey folks,
There's a little tidbit of info I wanted to share that twitter didn't seem like the right medium for, so I thought I'd give it to y'all here.
By default, most guns in the game (the Milky Way ones, at least) work via disposable thermal clips, like in ME2 and 3. This is the "default user experience" for most guns in MEA.
However! Since we know some of you prefer the old-school approach, we have something called the Vintage Heat Sink. This is a piece of ME1-era tech that you can use when crafting a weapon to make it work more like the guns in ME1 did, with endless ammo but an overheat mechanic, rather than using disposable thermal clips as "ammo." So if you want your Avenger or Carnifex (or whatever) to behave ME1-style, that's entirely possible.
Anyway, I thought some of you might appreciate that. :)

So yeah, sounds like you can just slap it on, laser or not.

Oh man that is the best news i have heard about Andromeda so far
Also because there are still people passing around that "disarming scene" gif as if it's end-all-be-all proof this game is bad, I might as well mention that the reactions from the press-event say it's been fixed.
The lip-syncing and facial animations look fine to my eye—not quite as stiff or doll-like as they did in the trailer above, which caused some concern back in December.
Both systems cover almost every weapon. The only place it'll probably be a game changer at all will be when you set MP difficulty modifiers and you'll probably be penalized on available points for picking a system with "unlimited" ammo.

You don't need a theory. They clearly said groups had arrived before to test the system working at all to begin with, and secondly, this isn't the Alliance. This is the Citadel, meaning if you get in and have the logistics to set up your own shit, you do. You recall batarians getting butthurt because the Alliance got some colony sites because they brought everything with them to settle, not just a flag and some guns, and the Council just shrugged and went on.
The only time they got uppity is when quarians settled a world suited better for elcor, and the elcor lodged a formal protest and basically won the right because A it was clear the quarians were not even kind of suited for the planet at all and B they didn't apply for a charter or jack, they just landed and set up shop in desperation, and a formal Citadel client said, hey we want that, and and also they're going to die if they stay there.
The only race with that issue here is the krogan, and they've already said you'll be negotiating (or not) for Drak on behalf of Nakmor for a planet as one of your diplomacy style missions, that was like the first mission they mentioned besides finding the turian ark.
I thought the Andromeda initiative wasn't officially affiliated with the council.
I thought the Andromeda initiative wasn't officially affiliated with the council.
It's privately funded, I thought
I thought the Andromeda initiative wasn't officially affiliated with the council.
It's not, but the council set up still provides the framework for the races heading into Andromeda, as we see from the videos where people are trying to decide stuff. I seriously doubt one of your initial out of the gate options is going to be 'fuck the turian ark, them niggas is on they own', and the fact your first SP > MP unlock is tied to that says quite a bit.
If they expect trilogy type sales and trilogy type stories, they can't just let you completely flip the script on every encounter, and they've already stated flatly a citadel-esque hub exists.
I mean, you could fuck Morinth and die
Yeah, but that was still with an asari. You could please Liara's blue booty in the first game, even if she didn't fry your brain afterwards.
Ending up in the infirmary because you slept with a krogan, on the other hand, that's something that never really happened in the original trilogy. Sure you could date Garrus and Thane, maybe have a great time with Tali, but they were still pretty "tame" options. I think the wildest things could have gotten, beyond jumping on Morinth's biotic sword (metaphorically speaking), would have been if you had a one-night stand with Javik (apparently that could happen in the Citadel DLC), or get freaky with Jack and her brutal biotics.
