• Mass Effect Megathread: He said "I should go." Do I sound like that?

Hey, a dev just confirmed the multiplayer is unlimited during the early access period and doesn't count towards the 10 hour timer.
The Collector ship is unskippable; 5 missions after Horizon it triggers and you have to do it. The derelict Reaper that unlocks just afterwards is the one you should delay until you have a fully loyal squad and fully upgraded ship.
I always leave Tali's and Legion's (obviously) missions undone until derelict Reaper. After that I do Legion, then Tali (so I get Legion on the ship) and still no one dies.

I thought you could only do one before half the Normandy crew is dead.
Nah, you can have up to two. If you only have Legion's left, the Collector attack will happen after it, but, if you have more missions up to do, you can complete two before that happens.

I should probably hold off on playing until I recover.

These facial animations wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so ridiculously overdone.

I have no problems with the entire game looking like a RubberFruit animation. Because that is hilarious.
I guess I'm in the minority here, but I think the animations for the faces and stuff look fine when they're at normal speed and not freeze-framed on every meme face. [editline]4th March 2017[/editline] For Scott, specifically. Sara is still very uncanny valley at times.

Christ this thread is almost 4 years old

Everyone was wooden as a piece of plywood in the original trilogy but because they had these very neutral idle faces they didn't look as awkward as the MEA characters do in stills or when the camera is all up in them. It's causing an effect similar to uncanny valley for sure, but only sometimes. That being said, there's still a lot more obvious animation goofyness in Andromeda. Botched skeleton animations notwithstanding.
I think the animations are an improvement over the previous ones. They used to be just sorta bad and robotic; now they're bad, stuck horribly in the uncanny valley and goofy as shit, but at least their faces animate now. Yeah it's real silly looking but at least it's something.
Anyone else really disappointed by the music during the intro scene while Dad Ryder was monologue-ing? Sounded so... flat and generic. It didn't make me feel anything. No emotions or goosebumps. No sense of wonder. And it could have been slapped onto anything- nothing about it sounded overtly Mass Effect... It was honestly really fucking bad. If this is supposed to be representative of the rest of the soundtrack...

At least whenever this game comes out people will find hilarious faces just like that.
it feels like people go out of their way to find something wrong with everything bioware does
I'm inclined to agree with this in a lot of cases, but I DO think the animations look really... Not good. At least the facial and cinematic animations, the combat animations look quite good.
so what's the general opinion from all the media that's been released i've purposefully been avoiding trailers and screenshots to temper my expectations but i'm still pretty excited for a new mass effect game, since i loved ME3 (barring the ending of course)
Hey, a dev just confirmed the multiplayer is unlimited during the early access period and doesn't count towards the 10 hour timer.
Nope, it was a misunderstanding. He meant that the Multiplayer is unlocked, "unlimited" in the sense that it is not content limited and is the full experience. 10 hours is all you get. The game does not care if you sit in the menu for 10 hours. Once its gone, its gone.

[editline]4th March 2017[/editline]
it feels like people go out of their way to find something wrong with everything bioware does
It feels like Bioware spends a lot of money doing half the work other development houses do
so what's the general opinion from all the media that's been released i've purposefully been avoiding trailers and screenshots to temper my expectations but i'm still pretty excited for a new mass effect game, since i loved ME3 (barring the ending of course)
My opinion on the story content, it seems interesting but I'm not sure how I feel about the animations(Though Bioware's really never been good at cutscene animations so I wasn't expecting much). My opinion on the gameplay media that's been released though is that it looks really fun, like one of the most fun third person shooters I've seen.
(Though Bioware's really never been good at cutscene animations so I wasn't expecting much)..
No, that's just wrong. Bioware used to be one of the most talented game studios as far as cutscene animations go. They've often tried really hard to not re-use animations to a point that's easily noticed. The recent problem that has appeared (though it probably was also noticeable in small instances in early games) is that some animations feel desynchronized, or more obviously, that the animation skeleton creates visual problems. But Bioware often goes "nah, let's go with it anyway". But seriously. Bioware has done an outstanding work with cutscene animations in their games, and few studios come close. If I ask you for an example everyone will say "The Witcher 3", but don't forget that TW2 doesn't even come close, and ME1 had fantastic animations 10 years ago. [editline]4th March 2017[/editline] This is the kind of dumb hyperbole that people have to look out for.
Yeah that was pretty dumb to say now that I think about it, I really meant recently not never. But my other opinions stand, I think the gameplay looks really good but I'm cautiously interested in the story.
I'm kind of hoping that I can hide the bad facial animations behind a helmet for the majority of the game.
Im not one bit cautious and will probably roll a pre-order (first origin access tho) but then again I did have a blast with DAI as well, despite seemingly a lot of people hating it. I will be genuinely surprised if MEA ends up being a disappointment, I have enjoyed all of BWs previous games I have played so far from KOTOR to DAI
I think the only game by them I've really not enjoyed is Dragon Age II. I liked Mass Effect 3(aside from the ending which I just found kinda meh) and Dragon Age Inquisition. I just don't know much about the story and know that even if it turns out bad the gameplay will save it for me.
swiggity swooty I do have to admit the number of weird looking animation glitches is a bit worrying, but I still think it'll be a solid game.
