Mass Effect Megathread: He said "I should go." Do I sound like that?

I feel like I've completed the game already with the amount of stuff they've showcased.
I started another playthrough of ME3 this past weekend, for FB to remind me that Monday was the 5th anniversary of it releasing. I forgot how great these characters are.
Also, I never played through the DLC, so I found myself fighting Banshees before I'd rescued Eve for Wrex. I heard the shriek and audibly said "Ohhhh shit!" My roommate was wondering what was happening, then he saw them. :disgust:

Alpha Multiplayer Maps, looks like we're getting a asteroid map, cosmetic wise i'll be wondering how helmet less characters breath in space. Hoping we can modify the jump pack, to allow us to go higher.
It'll be like ME 2 and 3 and they'll give them a little oxygen mask that only covers their mouth e.e
Well I mean I guess they're really meant to be sorta newbies, and 22 is a pretty average age for people joining the military
I'm really curious how they will make '22 year old military newbie takes up his/her fathers mantle as the most important single person with the highest authority aboard the entire colonization mission' sound like a good idea with lore.
I feel like this game is going the same route that Fallout 4 went, in that many will admit it was a good game, just not a good Fallout game. Nothing I've seen of Andromeda really screams Mass Effect to me, the vibe is so wildly different. Which is probably the point, but not what I was looking for.
I find it odd that there's far too much focus on gameplay, while the story seems like an afterthought. Which is pretty much the opposite of the original trilogy way of things, and is the area where BioWare tends to excel. Even just partial open world hasn't been so far. Adding to that, the animations are weird, the voice acting is questionable at best for a couple of characters, facial animations are worse than that, and there seems to be quite a few lore breaks. Which I hope they have answers for, but it seems somewhat unlikely at the moment.
Yes, there's some of the same races, the technology is there, but the vibe is gone. Time (and Metacritic) will decide if I'm wrong, but that has been my impression so far.

For real? I feel like outside of the janky animations (and even that's in the spirit of the original trilogy), and the abundance of female Krogans, the game SCREAMS Mass Effect.

Literally might be the best qualified person for the job who doesn't have a mission critical role. 20 000 people on an Ark doesn't leave a lot of wiggle-room for redundancy when you're trying to set up a new home.
But if I had to guess it'll be something to do with the SAM implants, like Alec Ryder is the only one capable of creating/installing them and he's MIA.
Or, given that it is Bioware, they won't really justify it.
(That or they use the "Shepard has the Cipher" trope again the Ryder you play gets zapped with some Remnant bullshit. Given who the writer is, this seems entirely possible....)
I just beat Mass Effect and there are a couple of things I forgot that are odd and never brought up outside of the game (or in it for the second one).
First, there are a lot of side missions in Mass Effect dealing with biotic terrorists, extremists, and cultists. None of these are mentioned ever again.
Second, Shepard gets the Cipher from Shiala on Feros and can mind meld with Liara multiple times. Shouldn't Liara have the Cipher too and also be able to understand the Prothean language like Shepard?

That always freaked me out. You're in the vacuum of space(or planet filled with gas that melts your face off, etc), that tiny respirator mask isn't going to keep you safe.

In the Mass Effect Art Book they talk about doing the masks in order to better show the emotions of the characters and not obscuring their faces so they're easier to recognize.
Well, I mean first of all BioWare don't flatter yourselves and secondly that's just sorta dumb. I hate those little oxygen masks so much.

That makes no sense, why keep helmets on normal humans, then?

Just shows that they didn't have any faith in their voice actors, then.
Okay, so I never played ME2 to completion on PC since I have it and all the DLC on the 360. This shit is fucking stupid. Who's idea was it to have to buy points on Bioware's website to buy the DLC on Bioware's website?
I should be able to buy all this shit through Origin for real money, not have to buy Bioware funbux to get them.
because those funbux are designed, just like MS points and other funbux system, make you spend money on the buxpacks that have been sized in such a way that you will always have loads of points left over that will either be free money for the seller or incentivize you towards buying just a bit more to be able to afford the next dlc

God what a horrible system. I wanted the Firepower pack to get the 3 cool guns, but I'd either have to spend €8 and get all the minor DLC or spend €4.88 and have money left over.
How were companies not chewed out by the EU for shit like this?

Most days I think complaining about political correctness and "virtue signalling" is stupid, but even I can't help but groan a little when it's so clear that these people are far more concerned with demonstrating the right politics rather than telling good stories.

Is it bad that I am seriously considering not getting Andromeda because bioware's "humans" look so ugly? Like, I don't want to support lazy design/artwork, it feels like they're trying to pull a fast one on me.

If you're not sure just pay once for origin access or wait for some streams to pop up when early access begins, or better yet wait for reviews.

Pretty underwhelming, but lets you know how the Nomad functions.

I think I'm probably gonna hold off on this game for a few weeks after launch. I'm getting a sinking feeling there might be a few... issues at launch.
Not like the next couple of weeks aren't busy for games though, ME:A, Nier:A, Person:A 5.

I can understand this but why not just wait until the 16th? People are going to get early access and will have free reign to play, record, stream, etc.
Me? I don't really give too much of a shit how bad the people look. I mean yeah it can be a sign of bad shit.
but some of my favorite games look like shit. As long as the game is fun as shit, its okay in my book if some of it looks like shit.
Infact, I'm just gonna say this as a general thing to anyone reading. On the 16th we will see from actual people like you and me, what the game's quality is like.
Of course it will be limited to 10 hours and the story caps-out around the 4-6 hour mark. But it is still enough time for us to see how bad or good the game is.

But the thing is: You can do both. Of course exceptions may apply depending on what world you're telling your story in or what the overall narrative is but it is definitely possible. Hamfisting is the keyword, there.
Ok, so ... can I get an actual trailer about the fucking plot already?
This is still supposed to be a roleplaying videogame, right? So where is the fucking story?
If I wanted to play a generic open world game with exotic themes and exploration (TM) all I had to do was to ask Ubisoft
