Interesting that the 2 million goal was upload the original System Shock source code and level editor. I would think this would be released as a gesture of good will.
It will be released even if we don't reach the stretch goal post-KS (you will still be able to """back""" us in some way I'm not personally aware of yet, I'm not privy to these plans), but it won't be updated and cleaned up and directly compilable on modern computers. We're not holding the source code hostage — but reworking a codebase from 1994 is quite a task and one that you need experienced programmers on, hence it being a stretch goal in the first place.

They're still going to be accepting donations towards the development of the game post-ks, so I still think we can reach that. Even then, i think it's bound to happen at some point after the game releases anyways.

Well people have been working with the doom engine and look where we are now. It might not get as big a following but I think it's safe to say the community can work some miracles.

I think it would be really cool to see the first custom level made for System Shock 1.

I think SS getting the same treatment Doom got from the community would be great. Some technical updates here and there, run native in new systems, level editor and such... I love SS1 and I just want more of that exact thing.

Who knows? Maybe someone will make a playable version of SS1.
Jokes aside, the System Shock controls and UI have aged terribly, never has looking up and down been this much hassle.

This really is the kicker for me, for as much as I loved the game, I couldn't touch the classic edition with a ten foot pole. What puts me off from playing again is just how sluggishly the game seems to handle. Just cleaning up the controls and UI, maybe a resolution bump and I'd settle for that as a remake. Just cleaning it up.

Enhanced Edition does basically this.
So close to enemy dismemberment. Darn, I like it when enemies fall apart in games.
We're looking for another animator to join us (and me) on the project. Preferably senior. Remote work. Feel free to contact me if you know anyone you know might fit the bill! (pretty unlikely on Facepunch, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take)
I'm probably the biggest System Shock (1) fan in the whole dang universe, so seeing the remake get funded and then some is one of the greatest things ever. Can't wait to play as cyberpunk John McClane and foil the plans of a megalomaniac terrorist AI at every turn again.
I just listened to all the SS2 audio logs in order and it feels like a radio drama. What I want to see is a mini series but yeah right like that would happen.
Only leaving this here cause I guess some people would like to hear the news?
MaxOfS2D appears to no longer be working on the System Shock remake.
The bio on his twitter account refers to System Shock Remake in the past tense.

oh yeah also a new trailer came out but i couldnt find the thread earlier so here you go:

reception for this one seemed lukewarm at best but the devs already addressed that it was more or less meant to show off the engine's capabilities and what the devs can do with it and not so much the game itself.
Max leaving doesn't concern me by itself.
Max leaving in addition to there not being any update for March does.

The march update was the pre-alpha trailer though?
