Star Wars Gaming Megathread Episode II - Attack of the Season Pass

I really dislike how long it takes to spawn in and to even get into a game.
After a game ends, it's 60 seconds until the next round, then another 60 to start the game (even if the lobby is full).
In regards to spawning in, the countdown does not start until you hit the "Start" button which is 10 seconds plus whatever time you take making any changes to your loadout, or if you get luck, instant spawn on a full squad.
I've seen it twice but the Rebel team has to be much better than the Imperials to pull it off. The objectives have so much health and the Rebels have so many ways to lose tickets that there is no way a decent Imperial team should lose.
Yeah i noticed that too. Even a rebel team which goes into the last phase with 150 tickets or more will loose. I think that the spawning covettes are the doom of the rebels in this phase, since they each count for some 30 or so tickets when destroyed, which is not good. So if the rebels just barely manage the shield generator objective and are left with 110 or something tickets when the final phase begins, 60 of them are guaranteed wasted because of the corvettes.
Game please stop throwing me into another match after I press quit at the end of the match screen thx

Dice has a reputation to uphold with the quit button.
here's my thing: if you want to encourage teamwork, add voice chat
i cannot co-operate easily and give/take orders without some kind of mic, and as questionable as that might be when it comes to online gaming, I'd rather have some kind of VoIP than none at all

oh man I'd love to have a Battle Droid filter so when you are marching with your fellow Droid allies everyone has that filter on and sounds like a Battle Droid.

I think both of these are also linked to the fact that DICE has a vested interest in making Battlefront distinct from Battlefield. They don't want to make a second product where you can play as the medic class healing people or the engineer class repairing people or the anti-tank class disabling enemy vehicles that spawn in on traditional Conquest style maps because the end product would be more likely to compete with their (and EA's) flagship FPS franchise. I think Battlefront 2 is an attempt to compromise between a traditional Battlefront game (which played very similarly to Battlefield games of the past) and Battlefront 1, which went way too far in getting away from the formula that worked.
The immersion stuff on the other hand doesn't really bother me personally. Ideally, maps would have era specific heroes but there is a certain appeal to the idea of just mashing up cool parts of the Star Wars franchise like it's an action figure set.

I don't really like the idea of squad level voip in a game that breaks down and reforms squads every time you respawn, especially with the attitude DICE has regarding VOIP where it's default setting is always on with no PTT. I'd be spending half the match muting people.

I don't think either of those makes the situation any better. They don't want it to be a Battlefield clone, that's fine (albeit if it was a Battlefield clone, there's a possibility that would sell even better), but saying "The originals were basically Battlefield!" is not exactly true. They had the same core gameplay - classes, vehicles that spawn in, capturing points to lower tickets etc - but the originals already had plenty to differentiate the two franchises. Special classes, heroes, Space Combat with boarding, a third person focus, medical and ammo droids, the sci-fi/star wars setting etc. That the gameplay is more arcadey and simple already means that even if they incorporated those things it's missing that Battlefield has, it still wouldn't actually play like Battlefield.
The choice should not be either "Extremely arcadey game that doesn't properly allow teamwork" or "Battlefield clone". Things like healing and repairing are not inherent properties of Battlefield in the first place, but even if they were, i don't think the fact that they are missing offers any benefit to the game at all and all it accomplishes is that the game feels lacking. All it does is make it seem like it's not had that much thought put into those things and how to properly handle those gameplay mechanics. At the moment it's as if they want it to be a teamwork-focused game without having any of the requirements for teamwork in place. It's like it has the barebones in place but then they've forgot to actually add any real substance to it. Their goal of "don't make it Battlefield" seems to just be detracting from letting the game reach it's full potential if that's the case.
With the immersion though, i really don't see why you don't think it's a bit of a problem. Putting different parts of Star Wars together isn't the issue itself, something like the Heroes VS villains mode is great fun. The problem is that they've gone on about wanting to make an immersive game that feels authentic, but then in the gamemodes that are supposed to focus on a single era of the setting there's the possibility of heroes that don't belong anywhere near that time period, weapons that won't exist for decades and characters doing silly 'funny' emotes for some reason. It's absurd to say they care about immersion and then shove those things in. I think it's pretty disingenuous, really; saying how they want to pretty much create an experience that feels true to Star Wars, even going to the lengths of basing things on the original models to make them feel right, but then purposefully shattering that vision without any real care. Saying one thing but in practice doing something entirely different.
I completely agree, I'm just trying to interpret DICE's perspective based on what they have provided.

I remember they said that something along those lines for BF2015, but have they actually said anything like that about Battlefront 2/since then?
Re-reading what they originally said, it says they didn't want to just give Battlefield a star-wars skin, but that was before the game was properly shown and when people didn't know what it would actually be.
Screenshot from the accidentally released Kamino gameplay, there is more info on the scoreboard then we got in the Beta at the bottom. Including deaths.
Someone here was complaining about not seeing their deaths IIRC.

I feel like I would like Battlefront more if it shared more similarities to Battlefield, but I really like the game so far.
Clearly the best model for a Star Wars shooter is the Galactic Conquest mod for 1942.
Anyone really hate the trails the minimap icons make when you turn? It make it so obnoxious to read.
Anyone else's game not working ? Just get booted out when trying to join a game
i miss swtor
i miss swtor
I reinstall it every few months like clockwork. Don't know why because I never stick to it for more than a couple weeks, but it's the only MMO I keep going back to other than WoW, which costs $65 to go back to :v:
Yo this sounds fucking awesome. What determined if a player was a jedi?
Before the village update that allowed anyone to become force sensitive through questing and directly grinding for it (And before the NGE update that condensed everything into 9 starter classes including Jedi), you had to find these rare holocrons. When you opened a Holocron it would tell you a random profession to master. That means grinding out all the XP needed to unlock the mastery skill of that profession. You had to do this 5 times. Only the 5th profession was secret. You had to master professions until you found the 5th and it unlocked your force sensitive character, which was a second character you could play on the server (You were limited to ONE only unless you unlocked a force sensitive toon)
There were over 32 professions
So, say one holocron told you to master Armorsmith, You'd have to pick up the Novice starter profession Artisan and grind up the branch that unlocked novice Armorsmith. And then sit in a corner of Theed's Cantina for 3 days with hundreds of thousands of cheap low quality grind worthy resources and craft 28,000 Armor Upgrade Units to master Armorsmith. I know it was 28,000, Because I fucking counted. And the resources weren't cheap, either. If you found a deposit and had big harvesters on them, great, but if not, you had to buy them from someone
I feel sorry for anyone who went through all the professions before they found their hidden 5th
Then your second character had its own Force Sensitive and Jedi trees which took a LOT of XP and the more you fought with your lightsaber, which you needed to do to grind XP, the higher your bounty/chance of being on a bounty board for Bounty Hunters to accept and track and kill you. Bounty Hunting was neat, too. You had no idea if you were targeted or not, there was no notification, no name appeared Red to you, but to the Bounty Hunter with you as their target, they could attack you any time, any place. Lot of good stories about stalking. And anyone could have bounties placed on them by players. If you knew you were on the board, then you watched everyone because anyone could be your attacker
Oh, Yeah, and if your Jedi character died 3 times it got deleted. But they were substantially more powerful than other classes. And rightfully so. That was changed later though to just decay your skills and erase lots of XP and progress

Me too. I really hate the direction it took with KOTFE.
-become a jedi snip-
Goddamn that's a process, I can imagine me never putting in that much effort but being thoroughly impressed when someone who did comes along and chops me to pieces lmao
Man Takodana is crazy unbalanced, resisstance get camo and a nice juicy spawn RIGHT next to the dropship the FO are supposed to get the package to; not to mention the clear lane from the falcon to the front gates of the castle where they can snipe with leisure. First Order gets a piss poor troop count and nice shiny white armour that stands out like dogs balls and kills any chance of getting close to the dropship.
I really liked becoming a Jedi in SWG. Something felt so mysterious and immersive when the Old Man came up to you and started off your quest. I remember nervously walking around, waiting to be attacked by the Sith Shadows. Then the feeling of relief when I managed to kill them.
Hm the beta updated.

Finally got to play as Poe, and I just barely a nick my wing on the station and instantly explode bah.
I like the cockpit though

Honestly, in that map, both teams should need to bring the artifact to their own dropship/base.

Why'd they update the beta when it is about to end?

Looks like they added a video thanking us for playing.

Then I have no idea.
Hey playas it's jon boyega
Every time the game starts up it needs to have a sound clip of "Hey it's ur boy Jon Boyega"
Star Wars Battlefront II but every sound is replaced with Jon Boyega's entire speech
