Star Wars Gaming Megathread Episode II - Attack of the Season Pass
BFII could be salvaged. The actual gameplay is pretty damn fun, with Starfight Assault as the real highlight for me.
It's just that doing so would require a substantial rework of the Star Cards system - and I get the impression that EA is not willing to let them go that far.
honestly for all the shit I could throw and the maymay thing I did above, I find the gameplay so much fun. Even though progression is complete trash(it doesn't exist lmao) I found it a lot of fun just blasting droids with a machine gun while hearing my favourite clone trooper voice everywhere. It felt great, and I want to experience more of that. At least on PS4 I didn't feel anyone having any advantage over me during the beta if they had a lucky drop of a star card, other than my team being stupid and ignoring objectives. It felt fun to play the game and I really REALLY want to play more of it, and all the maps and as all the heroes...Shame that EA murdered a great product by DICE, because I really doubt EA will let DICE change the system.
Some people now say they've received an email stating that you can "Pre-order to receive instant access to six bonus heroes". There are currently six locked heroes but it could also be a mistake and that they actually meant to write "6 epic hero star cards".

Yeah, I doubt that's going to extinguish the fire if it's true...
Six bonus heroes. Vader and Luke are considered bonus? ok we don't know who they meant or if it is a mistake of course, but if they are implying that the "bonus" heroes are the ones that caused EA to take the title of most downvoted on Reddit, then lmao.
If they're really doing that then they better do it across all fucking platforms.
I hope this shit all blows over and gets taken care of before the next Battlefield game.
I don't have enough free time to dedicate myself to slow grinds.
Apparently this was in the store for a while now, but....

:wow:
This deal is getting worse all the time
Fucking calling them bonuses, christ
They actually lowered the prices afters the shitstorm.

These are the credit cost for all locked heroes at launch. These prices are based on a combination of open beta data, early access data and a bunch of other metrics. They're aimed to ensure all our players have something fun to play for as we launch the game, while at the same time not supposed to make you feel overwhelmed and frustrated.
Iden Versio - 5 000 credits
Chewbacca, Emperor Palpatine and Leia Organa - 10 000 credits
Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader - 15 000 credits
They should never had been that high in the first place, wtf were they thinking?
and I bought iden for 20k early in the trial.. rip I wonder if they'll give credits back to those who bought early
If we keep going they might make heroes free.
If we keep going they might make heroes free.
We can only hope.
Also conspiracy theory going around that they were always going to lower the price and they're only did it for the PR.

Sounds dumb to me, this hasn't exactly made EA look very good to very many people
Oh lord they're doing a Reddit AMA tomorrow.
That will go well.

"Keep talking, we keep listening" yeah I don't buy that, I feel like they knew what they were doing but decided to go with it anyway and they had an update ready to release at any moment to make themselves look better as if they listen to community...

This is a PR nightmare even for a company like EA. On no planet in any universe would a company intentionally mark up the price of heros to get everyone to talk about it only to drop the prices a day later as a marketing tactic. Nobody is that fucking stupid and this conspiracy is just a bunch of nut jobs looking for any excuse to make EA look worse than they already do.
They just followed the trend in gaming right now. Lootboxes. And they went all in on how to get people to buy them. Rather than make them an alternative they made it the best option, and apparently there's a glass ceiling of bullshit the community is willing to take after all
This doesn’t even remotely fix the star cards however
Fuck EA. This solves nothing. The fact that heroes were so expensive in the first place is more than enough for me to never buy this cash grab.

Fairly positive QA told devs 'hey this is bs' but devs and EA kept silence on that and now we are in this situation.
Press copies had lower prices which is why it didn't come out until the trial.

Also one of the screenshots on the official website had the lower press prices :v:

Gamespot (review in progress) gave the game a 6/10 mainly blaming its confusing progression and micro-transactions for ruining an otherwise decent experience.
The biggest problem with this system is that it's never clearly explained. While you'll eventually come to understand how credits, crystals, and crafting components are used, you'll still have to reconcile the fact that the time you invest in the game won't always be rewarded with progress, or at least in the way you want.
In this way, Battlefront II plants itself in the same territory as free-to-play games, with much of its content and characters tucked away behind progression walls and randomized loot crates. This is an especially disappointing reality for a full-priced release. Above all, it ends up doing a disservice to the core gameplay, which can still provide solid moments of enjoyment despite the looming presence of its progression systems. Many of these issues related to the meta-game fall by the wayside when you're in the thick of battle, as you're taking part in the massive struggle throughout the many locales in the Star Wars universe.
Whoops, looks like a publisher didn't pay Gamespot enough for a glowing review this time :v:

Wouldn't it be easier to just have beating the campaign unlock her? Seems like there's an unnecessary extra step there if that's the point.
Because that would be easy. and Fuck you.
Seriously there's no reason other than that.

To make her accessible for players who don't want to do the campaign. Actually a fair system now that I think about it some more.
edit: i.e. if you don't want to play the campaign you can get her with credits gained from mp
if you already unlocked her and decide to do the campaign later, hey free credits
plus you can spend those 5k credits elsewhere since hero Iden sucks
Pretty glad they fixed this before the launch(more like threw some duct tape on it but whatever), cause I was not looking forward to grinding at all.

The art is still horrifyingly lazy but damn, the joke is actually on point. Good job Bum Tickley.

Not really much of a joke, more like an assertion that buying battlefront 2 is somehow shameful.
I guess if there are people that are actually ashamed of buying the game, it would make them look pretty foolish, but that doesn't seem like the case to me. All I've seen is people saying they're cancelling their purchase and others who say they're still buying in. No sweaty shame on the latter party, but I guess that stops people feeling smug about their decision not to buy the thing.
Story spoilers.
[sp]Really dislike how the story turned out, barely Imperial through a quarter of the game [/sp]
