According to some people just removing the microtransactions by itself doesn't fix anything as the game is still balanced around you buying boxes. If they are committed to removing them they need to majorly rework the progression.

That's what they said the point was
So if you're gonna play at all. Iden is pretty damn good hero actually.

The game itself actually looks like alot of fun and thats whats shitting me the most about this.
Out of principle I don't want to drop cash on it but at the same time, I want to have fun.
Even if you're interested, I wouldn't recommend buying this until they add the microstransactions back in. Wait to see if they actually make the changes worthwhile. If they're just screwing you over at a later date, it's not worth it and they shouldn't be rewarded.
Make them earn your money.
You could also drop $5 for EA/origin access and try it for 10 hours.
Today, EA announced that it will be removing microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront 2. However, this is only a temporary measure until EA can achieve what the company says is the "right balance" between those who want to progress through gameplay and those who want what they call an "accelerated experience."
Sorry lads, it isn't coming back as just cosmetics. This is literally just a PR stunt to try and salvage sales in the run up to TLJ and Christmas.
They’re just doing it to lure people in, once they get enough money from game sales they’ll just reintroduce the currency again.
Wouldn't that be grounds for getting a refund? Origin probably won't grant it, but i'd imagine there's mechanisms within the EU to get one's money back.
Games can be "pay to progress" without being P2W. They could potentially remove all the card tiers and abilities that straight up give you more damage/health while offering people to buy sidegrade weapons and abilities.
But yeah, it's best to just wait and see. Hopefully they understand that they won't be able to add P2W mechanics again without being absolutely torn apart once more.
Which is what they did for the Battlefield games. With like, one exception in that Battlefield 3 had a completely broken gun, they've never been straight upgrades...
Okay Battlefield 4 had the ships having no countermeasures at level one is bullshite but then again, there's a lot of weirdness in 4 at launch
There are rumours going around that Disney forced this on them, because of TLJ coming out so soon.

Already said this in the news thread, but Disney doesn't want to have news sites accusing them of helping promote gambling to kiddies whilst they're in the middle of promoting TLJ.
Here's hoping they don't forget about EA's actions too quickly.

Disney: "All right, EA, you're shitting up the brand. Tone is down a bit, would you?"
I wonder how much it cost EA to secure the license.
A hundred children.
I think what i feel is the worst about this outrage is that there is absolutely no talk about the game's other problems.
Awful unit balance, map balance, gamemode balance, hero balance, performence. The enormous amount of bugs, the non-lootbox progression etc etc.
Lol [sp]the whole sequence when Iden and Del just switched sides was stupid as hell. Just going around murdering the people you were allied with 10 minutes ago[/sp]
[editline]18th November 2017[/editline]
Also the [sp]super loyalty they show towards Leia in a matter of hours, calling her 'your higness' and what not[/sp]
The UI is atrocious. You know that screen door effect VR has? It's like they applied it as a filter on all the menus.

of course there are no mention of Lootboxes, but it is an... interesting read.

Honestly seeing the amount of effort that went into this game it's sad that EA's business actions have ended up putting it to waste.
It's got to be really frustrating to be a game dev working for a studio owned by EA or Activision and pouring your heart and soul into a project and really hoping the people that play it have the time of their life, but then you have greedy executives tell you that you need to shove in shit like loot boxes so the game makes more money and tainting the public vision of your game.

"Earlier today, Electronic Arts chief executive officer Andrew Wilson had a phone call with The Walt Disney Company chief executive Bob Iger about Star Wars: Battlefront II, according to sources familiar with the situation. A few hours after that call, players are finding out that they can no longer make in-game purchases with real money." - https://venturebeat.com/2017/11/16/star-wars-battlefront-ii-microtransactions-go-offline-until-ea-can-make-changes/
lolol
this game is retarded you can't mute or even disable your own mic in-game if you're in a group
You know, I could even see the squad thing working if they bothered to actually autogroup you with teammates, which as far as I saw during access, they don't. Even if you only had two squads of organized players communicating with discord or something, you could have an easy advantage. But of course, that would be if the game actually cared about rewarding skilled play
and yes i know it's meant to be arcadey but there's a bit of cognitive dissonance when they introduce classes, but no real way to coordinate.
“It came to us as a pitch from Motive Studios, who was making the single-player campaign,” says Steve Blank of the Lucasfilm Story Group. “They said, ‘Hey, we are really interested in a Imperial point of view in general, but one of the times we find really fascinating is the time period spanning between Return of the Jedi through The Force Awakens. It hasn’t been explored a ton yet. We have seen some novels, not a lot of details outside of that. There are these major events, like the destruction of the Death Star II — what would that have looked like from an Imperial point of view? And so, we want to figure out with you guys, can we tell a story there? What does that really look like? And who would those characters be?’ So it became a really collaborative process at that point. We were immediately onboard. We thought that was a really cool idea, something we were happy to explore.”
From there, our Imperial protagonists — you read that right — were born. The game would star an elite Imperial squad, active on Endor during the destruction of the second Death Star. Their leader, and now the character in our hands: a gifted female soldier who was born and raised in the age of the Empire, and a true believer in the Emperor’s stewardship.
“With our writers, Mitch Dyer and Walt Williams, with the Motive team, with the Story Group, with our Lucasfilm games team, we all kind of huddled and said, ‘Who would the right characters be for this? Who’s going to bring us into this story?’” Blank explains. “And that’s how we came up with Commander Iden Versio and Inferno Squad, because we wanted to introduce characters that you immediately believed and felt were loyal to the Empire and were through-and-through Imperials, and would be really affected by what happened.”
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to write, because it’s something Star Wars has always been missing,” says Dyer. “As a Star Wars fan, I’m as obsessed with Darth Vader, Maul, Boba Fett, and other villains in the galaxy as I am with heroes like Leia and Yoda. Star Wars always gives us glimpses into the dark side, and with Battlefront II, we wanted to live in it. What’s it like to be a loyal Imperial soldier, born on an Imperial world, with a military family mentoring you into an elite operative? What challenges does someone like this face within the regime, and what are the personal conflicts that create tension and disagreements within its ranks? Iden Versio was the core of that story — she’s an authority figure who bristles at authority, who breaks rank and protocol in the interest of success and galactic security.”
This really makes it sound like the current campaign was a last minute change
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
the way tickets work is gay
if you still got friendlies alive but you have 0 tickets remaining the game should continue until your entire team is dead
I love how ranking up is pointless. I don't get credits, I don't get loot boxes, I don't get class progression or new weapons.

I think battlefield 1942 did that but from then on it's always been when you run out of tickets you lose.
I kind of makes sense as it prevents the last guy left just hiding in a corner of the map. (perhaps have a time limit until victory once that point happens so that last minute saves can still happen but will discourage campers.)
I really like Rey's TLJ outfit

Let's be honest though if the last guy manages to hide and then Rambo to victory the dude deserves it
