Star Wars Gaming Megathread Episode II - Attack of the Season Pass

Oh fuck lego star wars is out on tuesday
So I've been playing Battlefront...
The game is shit. EXCEPT. Turning Point. That game mode is legitimately fun and good, and doesn't have stupid heroes all over the place and very limited vehicles
Think Rush from Bad Company, except instead of 2 crates to blow up, you have 2 conquest type points to capture, and you only have to capture one to move the line forward instead of both, and it's 20v20
Almost worth the $20 for that alone. Not a fan of the rest of the game really

Can i ask why you think that?
I'll admit its very limited and wasn't worth full price at launch but i'm not sure why one would consider it a bad game.
i like Walker Assault when both teams have their shit together. goes without saying that this is rare, especially on the Rebel side

Yeah, I played Bespin Walker Assault yesterday. I was pretty much the only one going for one of the uplins. Everybody else left me on my own to try and take the other one. Of course, I got killed, and before long, the Imperials clocked on to their strategy and overran the second uplink. If both are switched on at the same time, it means they have to divide their forces, giving you a better chance. Seems players just don't get that.

It's just very shallow, kind of bare bones. One of the best looking and sounding games, but boring gameplay, with unfun elements. Like Luke Skywalker jump spamming and killing 60 people a round and being basically unkillable. You can't do much but die. No ammo and everything is on Cooldowns, like one shot killing sniper rifles, and some weapons being absolutely better than other weapons, period.
But Turning Point is really good. The Un-Fun elements (IMO) are out, the teamplay seems to be more organized and concentrated without stupid hallway chokepoints because of the way the game type works. The increased numbers of people duking it out in a given area mean the Cooldown abilities are less pronounced since there's more targets for them to be used on. I think 20v20 without Heroes makes for the most fun
how's TOR? is it any fun?
I would buy it, but i'm also not the best when it comes to a subscription business model.

If you just want to do the story quests, none of the group content or PVP, I say just stay as a free player, if you want to do everything, it is better to subscribe.

If you only want to play through the stories, you can do it free to play no problem. If you want to do Revan/Hutt Cartel/Knights of the Fallen Empire, fork out $15 for a month of sub, you get access to it all, permanently. Any future KotFE content after your sub expires you won't get unless you sub again though. If you want to get around the shitty restrictions, like dick all for credits cap, more than 2 listings, chatting off starter worlds, equipping purple items, hiding head slot, unifying colors, displaying titles, do more than 5 PvP matches a week, 5 PvE flashpoints (Dungeons basically) a week, and a bunch of other shit, you'll need a sub.
But just the stories? Free to Play all the way. If you enjoy the game after that, $15 for the rest of the shit is totally worth it, especially the KotFE story, it's much higher quality than the rest of TOR. They made the game where you only have to do the main class story quests, and the planet's quest lines to level up the required amount to keep continuing. You don't have to do side quests anymore. They aren't even displayed by default, you have to enable them on the map screen, even. So no more button mashing and many hours of bullshit. You can straight up just focus on the Story
The fact that you can fucking get a weapon that homes in on anyone at any time is baffling. Especially since you could get a trait that basically made it so that you had it infinitely, and at the same time were getting free item cards over and over every kill.
The entire gameplay flow is completely broken, fights aren't won by the laughably bland combat, but whether or not someone got an ion bombardment or knows where the hero token spawns. All complexity is removed and it just makes the whole game feel like a really, really poorly made XBLA game.
And that's on top of how pathetic the content is. There are five flying vehicles, two are exactly the same except one is slightly faster. They couldn't even be assed to make sure that one, out of five, didn't have a broken hitbox.
Which reminds me, in four days they'll release the penultimate chapter of Knights of the Fallen Empire, and, I suppose, the last one at the end of July
I'm saving 13 bucks for the occasion

The fact that the LEGO licensed games have jumped on the full DLC train of character packs and Season Pass's worth of extra levels is still really bizarre to me. I grew up with these things coming as they were with no prompts for bonus content, and now they're all pimped up like all the other modern games.
Of course, I'm still a little wary of the full-on decision to voice act all the games now when the mute treatment of the plot was part of the originals' charm back in 2005-2011, so this is a bit of a "cranky old man" thing for me in any case.

It does say 'experience them in a new way' so you might be right.

The still has the charm, and still use physical gags though it works better in the games that have their own story, not ones that are based off existing stories.

Yeah the DLC is a bit bizzare to me, though without any DLC there's still going to be over 200 characters according to TT so I don't think it's going to really be lacking in content for a LEGO Game.
Just a bit unusual, and the season pass is actually a decent price, only 10 bucks (compared to the original price for Fallout 4's which was 30 bucks and the new price of 50).
And yeah, the voice acting to me worked great in the first Marvel one since it was an original story, and still had visual gags. The ones based on movies seem to suffer from it, however they did get the original actors in to record new lines (used to during levels) and iirc to rerecord some movie lines plus for the original stories they're doing.
And the visual gags present in the demo were pretty funny, especially Kylo's room so it goves me a bunch of hope.
I'm pretty sure since they've got the actual people to voice act, I'm sure we'll see alot of charm and humor from the game.
Yeah they got most the main cast I think. They got Harrison Ford some how.

He probably had to after breaking that rare Millennium Falcon lego set
I wonder if mark hamill is gonna bring us any intense, epic, silence in lego TFA :v:
They should have gotten Mark as a narrator.
He was at the Ep7 Table Read, he read the inbetween stuff.

those are both going to be free as far as I can tell, as the sticker on Playstation's box says "Exclusive until X Date"

I think that means you'll only be able to buy it on PS4 until X date.

No, the precedence for that terms use is that it's available only on that console until that date, and then spreads to other systems
Apparently they said something similar for other Lego DLC, but it never came out on other systems.

Isn't that what i said?
So, I've been playing that Star Wars Galaxies NGE emulator thing recently, and it's actually really stable and pretty much up consistently now.
Remember back when it just went up and down and had endless bugs?
I've probably put in 40+ hours already if anyone else wants to join in.
You're limited to 4 player slots. If we wanted to do that SWG thing again, I'd be up for it. I have a female Jedi character, a lvl 90 entertainer (really just for image design tbh), and a character that my BF uses now and then.
If we wanted to get together and do a city, we'd need to get a level 90 architect. Also, the economy is fudded up, so we'd probably need to do some armor/clothing crafting as well.

How does one join, i've wanted to try it again for a while now.
I'm unsure if they made the process easier, but the easiest way is to install SWG from the CD you have and I can send you their mod files. It was all over the fucking place with bugs and countless workarounds I had to manually find in the forums.
Let me do some research and see what they may have changed.

Yeah it looks all good now.
Just follow this:

And at the very bottom it says to contact Account Management if you can't connect..
Make sure you make an account on their website, that will be your login information. I think you may have to submit a forum thread to white-list your IP (Look it up at ipchicken.com or something). If that's still the case, they will need that for you to connect regardless.
