Just Cause 3: The one series we praise for awful dialogue.
Would you say this game is worth the asking price, considering it does sound a lot like JC2 but somehow worse?
I played a fair amount of JC2 and thought destroying stuff was fun.
I don't see how it's worse than JC2 other than the vehicle handling to be honest.

3 is better in the majority of areas but there are a few things 2 did better and its a bit disappointing that they weren't kept the same or improved on. Land vehicles, the whip melee of 2 vs the useless shoulder bump in 3, the enormity of Panau city vs the minuscule size of 3's largest city (1 skyscraper, that's really all?!), or just the amount of settlements in 2. Granted, the nature of 3's story, liberating the people, lends itself to a game with fewer towns and cities because it'd take forever if you had to liberate as many towns as 2 had. Not to mention 2's towns all felt very samey and copy and pasted, while most every place in 3 feels unique. I still think 3 is the superior game though, and I'd find it difficult to go back and play 2 now.
There's 1 thing I'd like to have in 3, and it's sprinting
I know you can just grapple to go faster but sometimes grappling makes it harder to escape. Like if you have nothing to grapple to for example, or you grapple a fence instead of a wall that is next to it.
I'm surprised I'm not the only one who misses the grapple whip melee attack from JC2, that was such a cool melee attack, and I was bummed to see it be removed here.

I miss the free transportation the most, but yes the melee, rolling, and sprinting as well. I'm still pissed that there is a beacon/flare system instead of just giving us the damn drops and rides for free, maybe make it time based instead.
In 2 you had to pay money for drops. I've never run out of beacons or flares, I think this system is way better.

and you get to drop any vehicle instead of just a bunch of "agency" vehicles
I really like the tether challenges.
I really wish the storyline had a measure of craziness to it aside from riding a missile again. It really could have done with attaching a bavarium bomb to a helicopter and dropping it into a DRM base
Have you guys tried getting a rebel with you, set a waypoint and then jumping on the roof of the car?
[editline]16th December 2015[/editline]
So apparently if you don't raise the flag in a town that has everything done and you leave the game, it will be after you come back
I did so at Regno but I can't see any challenges
I think I found a bug then. A bug that stops me from 100%'ing this game.
If there was one thing I could take from JC2 and insert into JC3 it would definitely be the ground vehicle handling and physics I simply do not get that sense of momentum or those moments where you clip something at 100mph and roll 200 times with that *WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH* sound. Vehicles had good suspension and when you turned sharply you saw it in action, even the dune buggy is much more stiff in JC3. Ugh, it surprises me that they actually bragged about bringing in a team to redesign the vehicle handling.

Okay where is this all coming from?
I played JC2 a lot, and I read the forums a lot. I never once saw anyone say they liked the driving in it. It was terrible. I have a lot of memories of trying to use those cars to actually get around the world, and just having the worst time because I'd never, and still haven't, played many games that got cars as bad as JC2 did in so many ways. JC3 has some really, really fast cars, and they will give you a sense of speed, and they're actually drivable in this game.
the main complaint I had with JC2 was always "The cars are terrible", how has opinion on the cars really swung so 180?
I almost wonder if it's because any amount of air you get in a vehicle flips on the in-air steering, and chances are you're holding down a direction not intending it to roll your car/motorcycle in that direction in the air.

Not at all, I enjoy the airborn vehicle controlling and I always let off the gas when going airborn. I have about 70 hrs in JC2, most of which is just me driving across panau in a jeep or humvee with some tunes playing in the background, the driving was solid and enjoyable IMO, I never had any problems controlling vehicles although some of the sports cars were easy to wreck.
I mean the slightest amount of air under the car could throw it off, without you realizing you're airborne, if that's the issue. Dunno for sure, something just seems off that shouldn't be, especially with the motorcycles.
I do miss the action style crashes, shoot out a cars tyre and it rolls 40 times before falling off a cliff or exploding.

The opinion hasn't swung. I've never seen a complaint about the handling in JC2. I HAVE however seen roadtrip groups of 50+ people in the multiplayer mod.
I have over 200 hours with JC2, and the vehicle handling (except for helis, which were way too stiff) is one of the major reasons for me 100%'ing it.

They still do that, at least at speed. Some of the flips the military vehicles do are insane.
The turning is fucked up, instead turning the wheel instantly (for example: GTAV), Rico gradually turns the wheel.
It's more that the weight of the bike seems to need to shift before the turn can begin, at least that's what it looks like. It maybe more realistic, but it's a lot less fun and very hard.
The previews made me believe they fixed the handling in Just Cause 3. The handling in Just Cause 2 wasn't that good. It was alright for stunting, with all cars being high speed and acting like bouncy balls in crashes, also you had just enough traction for road-trips and sightseeing. But when it came to racing you would crash way to easily, just hitting a rock at the side of the road at speed would send your car flying for a hundred meters. But apparently Just Cause 3's handling is even worse in these aspects.
Have you guys tried getting a rebel with you, set a waypoint and then jumping on the roof of the car?
I like loading a car up with rebels then slowly driving around occupied towns, the rebels do drive bys while the baddies chase the car. As long as you don't crash into them or run someone down you dont gain any heat
[editline]16th December 2015[/editline]
I think the issues with the bikes is that Rico is still turning the handlebars sitting upright when you go quite fast when he should be leaning much more. He drives them too much like a car.
You can even see it sometimes when you turn on bikes when going at a bit of speed. He turns in, the bike turns but then it wobbles because physics says the bike wants to carry on in it's direction of momentum, and only then does Rico lean in.
Alot of games seem to struggle to make motorcycles feel natural (GTA does them really well), in JC3 they feel completely wrong
[editline]16th December 2015[/editline]
I also preferred the car physics in 2. I liked the way that if the back of your car clipped something sideways you'd go spinning. And the multiple rollovers. It may not have been anymore realistic but was really fun and really seemed to fit in with the daft Hollywood action movie feel of the game
Wait sorry, I've been lurking in this thread for a while now and you're telling me cars don't fucking flip over when you shoot out a tire? The fuck is this shit, GTA?

They do flip over, they just need enough speed.
They do flip over, they just need enough speed.
"Enough speed" isn't even all that fast really. And if it's below that they'll still sometimes end up on their side.
[editline]16th December 2015[/editline]
Also shooting out the tires on a bike launches the rider off into the horizon which is fun too.

The driving in JC2 is specifically why I stopped playing it.
I had never used cars that felt more broken.
Not a single sports car drives right, in my experience you had to drive military vehicles or not drive because they were terrible.

Whenever I shoot the tires out, the cars flip and spiral off the road
My mistake, I must've been shooting at cars going too slow, sorry Ghost. I've just not experienced it in game.
122MB patch out
Hi all,
I'm pleased to let you know that the 1.02 patch we announced earlier today is now live, ahead of the anticipated Friday date.
In the 1.02 patch (132.1MB), you can expect:
Significantly improved loading times
Optimizations to online stats
General stability fixes
Fixed an issue related to challenges, wherein vehicles sometimes disappeared when starting a challenge
Fixed issues related to screen resizing and closing the game window before the game has fully started up
To those of you still having issues, rest assured we are working hard to alleviate these, and are listening very closely to everything that’s being said.
While the patch will improve performance on the whole, we’ve listened to some of the other concerns raised about the game and put together a little list of points which might alleviate these issues:
UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENES
You can skip cutscenes, in fact – all you need to do is hold B on your gamepad, or hit ‘Skip’ from the pause menu.
NO SPRINT BUTTON
This isn’t an oversight; it’s very much intended. Our designer’s intent was to encourage you to use Rico’s unique grapple to move around Medici far quicker than his legs would allow, as well as giving you the ability to traverse vertically.
NO CROUCH
Rico doesn’t hide. Getting him up in the air is our version of the cover mechanic. Rico is far more deadly in the skies, than pinned behind a container on the ground.
FINDING THE LAST CHAOS OBJECT
While there’s no mini-map to help you liberate bases and towns, you can always bring up your map to help find Chaos objects. When you’re down to the last few objects in any given settlement, an approximate location for these will be displayed on the map.
For more hints and tips for improving your experience and really getting the most out of the game, check out our Hints and Tips thread, and feel free to add your own.
Again, a huge thanks for your support over the past week, and look out for more news soon. If there’s any changes to the patch between now and Friday, we’ll let you know here.
If you are still encountering any issues following the patch, please contact our Customer Support EU or Customer Support NA
I kind of hope they don't fix the trains being glitchy as fuck. They're hilarious.
Customizable gamepad controls would still be nice.
They fixed the flag raising issue!
