Nah. You already have the Steam Hardware Survey, or DxDiag. What you'd need is a generic tiered system from "budget" to "powerhouse", define game presets against that system, and then map the results from the survey to it and have the user download the "<game> - <tier>" pack. It's a relatively simple thing to do, a few days for the application, maybe a few weeks for the database.
Besides, it'd impact the download times of every game the company sells. It's a generic system.
It is in no way nearly as easy as it sounds. Lower graphics settings in game usually just flip some switches or maybe load lower lod textures. For there be actually be separate downloads with a significant enough size difference, they'd have to basically completely re-create a lot of things and would have to build entirely different packages that have a bunch of stuff re-coded to use lower quality graphics and have lower quality textures and that would require a toooooon of work.

You're overcomplicating it. What I'm after is lowering the size of the download. For that, rendering lower quality textures and models on the server is enough. You wouldn't have to change any game code, just put other settings in a default preset.
The reason JC3, AssCreed, and the new Wolfenstein are over 50 GB in size is entirely down to textures, models, and audio. It would surprise me if the binaries take up more than half a gig (which is still a lot).
All the assets can be tweaked serverside: Lower resolution, fewer vertices, more aggressive compression for people that aren't audiophiles (although that's still a maybe).
I will agree that redoing the engine to take advantage of this would make for a whole suite of changes, but it's not that big a deal. The first step would simply be to lock the settings that change which textures and models are loaded, which is simple enough.
The second step would involve informing the user that choosing another setting will require a new download, and then doing so. It's mostly trivial stuff.
What's this Sky Fortress thing I keep hearing about? I sort of dropped this after the release so I haven't touched it all.
It's a giant helicarrier style area, part of the Land, Sea, Air expansion.

It's Mile High Club 2: Electric Boogaloo DLC edition.
On another note I finished the story the other day. Fuck me it's a steaming pile of shite. The Last boss is really unsatisfying, and [sp]whatshername scarface chick dying was really eye-rollingly generic. Was I supposed to feel sad about that ultra 2D character dying?[/sp]
Thank god the gameplay is so fucking on point though. Flying around and blowing shit up is fun as dicks.

...She died? I didn't notice.

Ye, [sp]in one of the last missions the tower her and Rico are in is about to blow up, so she shoots Rico's grappling hook at a passing jet, and he flies off as the tower falls apart and she gets crushed.[/sp]
the servers are down and it won't let me use offline mode
[editline]8th March 2016[/editline]
like I'm not even joking
I hit "Go offline" and it instead retries connection
is a dog opperating their server or something?
Who is programming this game?
[editline]8th March 2016[/editline]
if you actually believe a single player game needs online features that can't be shut off and you are forced to not play the game because of a score board, you need to be forced to live with the Amish, so that you can never make this happen again
[editline]8th March 2016[/editline]
I can't even play the game at all because for some reason the devs thought that forcing the players to connect to a game for a ~SCOREBOARD OF ALL THINGS~ was more important than letting people play their game
[editline]8th March 2016[/editline]
the worst part is that this game is insanely good
The scoreboards were the most annoying part of Just cause 3. It got annoying when I went to play the game after not playing it for a week or two and the game kept spamming me with 'such and such beat your score in X so many days ago!' which went on for around 5 minutes before it got through the lot of them.
Appearently the Corda Dracon reactor is still accessible after destroying the centcom

So I dropped a boat inside it.
Too bad it exploded in 15 seconds.
Alright, I just bought the game, having a ton of fun, but I'm having a really specific problem that I can't find a solution for as Google isn't helping.
Whenever I start up the game it forgets my custom controls for the keyboard. I have to rebind everything. The weird thing is that it saves my game just fine, and all the other options, like graphics, sound, etc. are also saved just fine. It just keeps forgetting my binded keys every time I restart the game.
Is there a config file where I can manually define my keybinds, so I can make it read-only? Or is there some other fix? I tried forcing the game to always run in administrator mode but that didn't help. Running Win 10 if it matters, game is installed to my C:/ drive, I exceed the minimum requirements and can run the game at a near constant 60 fps on max graphic settings.
-edit-
Well, found the kepmap.txt file, strangely all my controls are correct there, but the game keeps defaulting to the default controls still. Weird

Is the file set as read-only?
Is the file set as read-only?
Yeah, it is. Some people on the Steam forums are mentioning it's due to the latest patch affecting people who own the DLC, specifically Sky Fortress. Guess I'll wait for a patch.

The reactor or the boat? :v:
Yeah, it is. Some people on the Steam forums are mentioning it's due to the latest patch affecting people who own the DLC, specifically Sky Fortress. Guess I'll wait for a patch.
Try taking off read-only, if it doesn't work then wait for the patch. Sometimes games can't access read-only files and they revert to what ever the default is.

Yeah, that reactor is kind of a bitch with regards to how much damage you take if you fall in. Who'd've known radiation is bad for you?
Wait, it is an active reactor? I fell to the bottom when I found it and didn't take any damage or mutate.
Guess I just swam in sweet, sweet radiation for nothing.
I've gone in it on occasion, and you definitely take steady damage until death.
Finished the story missions.
[sp] Pretty bad pacing, Dimah's death came and gone quicker than a bombing run on an outpost. Di Ravello's boss fight was more annoying than anything else, and it felt half-baked instead of fun, a real shame because I loved Mario and some of the stuff the plot had going[/sp] Other than that it's my favorite game of 2015.
Okay, the sky fortress DLC is outright amazing. Like, holy shit, you would think the jet-boost to the wingsuit would be a super minor thing.
It's the most refreshing open world gameplay element I have seen in a long while. Combined with everything else, gives you at least a dozen ways to approach a base

Calling that a boss fight is pushing it.

Some reason the update borked the controls on PC for me. Right click is grapple and aim at the same time and it's really annoying.
Sky Fortress was really fun, but its too damn short. I know it is only a part of the expansion. Love that you can Iron Man take off by holding 'Y' (im using an Xbx pad on PC).
I wish they had like 4 sky-fortress' to conquer and maybe like a dozen of those small camps of mining gear and drones.

4 progressively harder Sky Forts, i found it too easy and only died because i kept slamming into things with the Rocket Suit.
I hope the land expansion figures out some ridiculous story element to create a new landmass/island to explore. I also hope they add another new skill tree as useful and cool as the jetpack.
It's released now!

I wish I could have as much fun as you guys do but JC2 felt incredibly barebones for me and JC3 doesn't really bring anything noteworthy to the table apart from some questionable design choices
