2.6.1 just went live. Grab it! It seems to have improved nectode considerably, across the board! I'm getting like 38FPS in Crusader, on my shitputer (GTX 780)
Spectrum is also live, starting with the announcement of 2.6.1 with patch notes. Surprise, there's a free-fly! It runs until the 20th, with a Connie Andromeda. Use promo code SHARETHELOVE There's also another one of those for-lore-purposes polls. And there's a Valentine's Day sale where there are a select number of limited multicrew ships with two-packs that have a bit of a discount. Eh, but it includes the 85x as well as limited numbers of discounted starter packs. The sale runs until February 28, 2017 or "until supplies last" (which means they've hit the allocation point they want for ship rarity/they sell out of discounted starter packs).
bear in mind you can't gift one of the two ships. Hope you wanted two of the same thing! https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/371402/warning-on-valentine-s-day-double-ship-packages
bear in mind you can't gift one of the two ships. Hope you wanted two of the same thing! https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/371402/warning-on-valentine-s-day-double-ship-packages
That is a hilariously terrible oversight.
Enjoying the free flight valentines thingy, although i can't get over how poor the andromeda's cockpit is, can't see shit out of it.
Does anybody see an improvement in performances ? I'm still between 10-20 fps in Crusader.
Would anyone be willing to review and support my issue council report? https://robertsspaceindustries.com/community/issue-council/star-citizen-alpha/SC-37801-_2_6_1_Live__Main_thrusters_appear_to_fire_even_when_not_applying_thrust It has to do with the main thrusters on ships appearing to fire continuously even when not applying any thrust.
New Around the Verse out today. Worth a watch because it shows off previews of the new Marine and Outlaw heavy armors, as well as the exploration-themed pressure suit. Never fails to deliver. [t]http://i.imgur.com/BJV0LVO.png[/t]

I love the LA studio updates, Eric gives me the feeling like he's the one person at CIG who doesn't give off an awkward feel when he's announcing enthusiastically. I also thought the Spectrum update would be boring as shit, but I never realized how much of a big part it is going to play in the overall game.

Diners at a brand new Xi’an restaurant in Prime flooded a nearby medical facility, claiming that they had contracted severe cases of food poisoning. Food inspectors investigated and guess what they found? Xi’an food. Apparently no one told these people that’s what it was supposed to taste like. How ridiculous is that? That’d be like getting angry at Herschel Foods because one of their “Too Much Soup” vending machines literally gave you too much soup. [ Polite Laughter ] Speaking of feeling sick to your stomach, how about that leaked report showing that the Senate committee on Economic Development was actually considering a proposal to rent prisoners to companies in a ‘work-exchange program’? [ Boos ] Just when you think our elected officials can’t get any worse. Of course Senators have been falling all over themselves to state that it was just a staffer’s draft proposal and there’s no way it would’ve been approved, but I am making a pledge here and now that if such a heinous act ever gets passed then I will be extremely nice to our new heavily tattooed writing staff.
Those shots just get me excited for 3.0 to a point where I have to remind myself that 3.0 isn't a full release but still an early alpha. Has CIG said what's coming after 4.0? Do they have plans to go to beta sometime after they start rolling out more systems in 4.0? From my understanding 3.0 to 4.0 are purely gameplay mechanics and jobs, and if subsumption and that are all coming in 3.0, would 4.0 be considered a feature complete alpha?
CIG's public roadmap does not extend past 4.0. We don't know what the future holds for us past that point, and 3.0->4.0 is going to take minimum a year unless some serious miracles hit. If they reach their goals for 4.0, they'll have most of the ships and variants in, so a logical next step would be planning a transition to beta, but that remains to be seen. Squadron 42 is also due this year, and that's likely to be their more immediate short-term goal over the PU beta.

The Bolton Paul Defiant was a dumb idea and total failure.
The Defiant wasn't a "total failure," first off, and second, medium bombers/heavy fighters with turrets are a common sight in history, and third, dogfights in space are wholly incomparable to WW2 dogfighting, where you have to be able to track a moving target faster than you can re-align your ship and shoot at things you don't necessarily want to be moving towards. The Defiant's key drawback (aside from being a slightly dated airframe compared to what it was fighting) was its lack of fixed forward armament coupled with a turret that couldn't aim forward. The plane was a night fighter and a bomber killer and excelled in those roles. The Hurricane does not suffer the Defiant's drawback..

In Star Citizen, your whole ship is the turret. Everything except the largest of ships can rotate fast enough that you will almost always be facing your target with it in your sights. Having a gimballed gun to fine tune aim will help you there, but a turret won't because your target will almost never outside of your field of view. There's nothing that turret is doing in practice that a gimballed gun wouldn't do better. This is why putting the majority of your firepower into a turret, in a fighter sized ship, is completely counter-productive. A human in the turret simply won't have the accuracy that the pilot would have while firing at a target they are also maneuvering against and the whole concept is fundamentally flawed. I'll give you the historical stuff, but it's still a terrible idea to design a fighter around in Star Citizen. Manned turrets in general are a bad idea for anything more maneuverable than what an Idris or Javelin presumably might fly like for a multitude of reasons that I've gone into at length previously.

The Hurricane splits the load between the pilot and gunner. The pilot focuses on flying, the gunner focuses on shooting. That alone will mean more than you give it credit for, especially in stacked fights. Also, in SC, yes you can go uncoupled but you can still only accelerate meaningfully in the direction your ship's nose is pointing. A turret lets you accelerate in one direction and aim your weapons in the other, which really frees up options for maneuvers that could otherwise take you out of the fight.

Most fighters accelerate in laterally at rates close to what they can in the forwards and reverse. I think the ratio of strafe to forward acceleration depends on the fighter, but forward is definitely not the only direction you can meaningfully accelerate, especially if you use boost.
Have turrets changed at all since PTU came out? They were absolutely anything but synergistic.
On a less aggressively cynical note, did they ever add an option to configure the deadzone for interactive mouse mode? It completely kills that mode for me and I'd love to be able to tighten it up or remove it completely.

I hope they will actually make ships accelerate instead of instantly changing directions. Everything at the moment controls too well in any direction even though most ships have only forward thrusters with small maneuvering thrusters. Would definitely make combat more interesting aswell if you actually had to maneuver using thrusters from behind, instead of magically going in any direction you want with miraculous accelerations.

Rear thrust is the absolute end all.
Have turrets changed at all since PTU came out? They were absolutely anything but synergistic.
they've been altered a few times and actually control decent if you're using controller/joystick. Mouse control is still a wobbly rollercoaster and I do have to agree with a few points- turrets only make sense for larger vehicles. I'm also a bit salty that this one fighter gets a turret that's an entire sabre loadout when the caterpillar's 2xs4 turrets are just kinda passable as defenses for what the whole ship's worth, but 100% more important to the ship's overall offense/defense. Similarly the retaliator could use less turrets, but more firepower per station. 2t 2xs4 or 3t 2xs3 would make sense for tali but not for the 'fighting freighter' the benefits of a turret on a fighter are that (once controls are better sorted out) it should ideally increase the ship's ability to hold off a number of foes. "the ship is a turret and can face your target a lot of the time" is great if you're talking about a 1v1 in a vacuum but if you have to bring a heavy anvil fighter (or the other turreted fighters) to the party, you're probably expecting a fleet of ships all over the place and will probably really enjoy knowing people will have a harder time shooting you in the tailpipe if the pilot is preoccupied
this, to my displeasure is absolutely not the case in the current AB dominated flight model. Rear thrust is the absolute end all.
I've gone back and forth on my preferences of how combat should work. Admittedly I've kind of come around with the whole super strafe thing now that the Pandora's box of strafing, engine kill, and turn rates are what they are. They're not going to get rid of that stuff, and unless they do the game is never going to play like Wing Commander. Regardless of what I think though, CIG needs to decide on something, stick with it, and make it as good and fun as it can be. I think there's an unfortunate undercurrent of trying to please everybody that's holding the game design back. I'd rather a game excel at its core mechanics and set an example than try to be all things to all people. If they want to make it a 6DOF shooter, then commit to it and make it really good one. Same for if they want to do Star Wars/Wing Commander, but I don't think that's something that could realistically happen at this point.
Hey, the fan film I was in finally got its CotS feature. Terallian was the guy who wrote it and did the heavy lifting in CryEngine.

Someone I know got a refund on Star Citizen using EU legislation and fucking Derek Smart literally emailed her and asked how she did it. The guys feud is relentless.
