You're all making me feel bad for not picking the Mustang now :(
Don't worry, the Mustang is even more stupid. :vs:
I'm pretty sure the Mustang still has overpowered maneuvering thrusters to overcome its unstable CoM/CoT configuration -- its thrusters have to fire at all times when under power to keep the ship from flipping end over end because the engines are off-center. Someone datamined the in-game values back in 1.1.x and the Mustang's thrusters were basically equivalent to TR5 under the old system.
For reference, the Mustang's spec maneuvering thrusters are TR1. The Starfarer's are TR3, and the Mustang's probably got about as much maneuvering heft, if not more.
The Mustang is why CIG now physics-tests ships in whiteboxing instead of waiting until it's past hangar-ready.
I loved the old Mustang thrusters, it was basically bull riding in space to do any combat

I have a Mustang Beta as my only ship. I would be totally ok with a major redesign to fix that and other issues. Hopefully the new interaction UI will help a lot of the terrible interior movement at least.
Wow, that megamap ATV really puts into perspective how much shit they make on a short time period
They made like 8 different tools purely for improving dev speed and reducing menial tasks. Also megamap, if it works like they want, could mean basically no loading times anywhere anytime :v:
Also, PTU invites are goin out for 2.6.2. New version soon.
The most exciting thing about 2.6.2 is the dev timeline for 3.0, tbh.

Unless they decide not to update the development schedule for 2 months after the 2.6.2 release.
Subscribers are getting a fucking Benny's vending machine for their hangar.
Long live the noodle.

The Benny's flair has a restriction:
Additionally, if you become a subscriber before April 17th, you’ll receive a special piece of bonus flair; a Big Bennys vending machine to decorate your hangar with! This flair will be distributed to all active subscribers on April 18, 2017.
This is a one-time thing. I suspect there just might be something Big Benny's related to this year's April Fools gag. Reminder: This was last year's.

That flair is just memey enough for me to subscribe for a month
I might jump on and subscribe for a month too, the amount of entertainment I've gotten from developer content has already more than justified the original starter ship so I guess I can tell myself it's okay to throw an extra $10 or so in.

This week's lorepost is the return of resident 30th-century Alex Jones analogue, Parker Terrell.
Yeah but Parker's theories actually make sense
The tease of all the planetary bases in ATV has gotten me excited, and I don't want to be excited. :(
2.6.2 is live! The Bucc comes with it, ahead of schedule (originally slated for 3.0).
CIG are holding a Drake sale to go with it. The yellow Dragonfly is not included. The Herald's price is still the same as concept.

The newsletter includes this sneak peek of the Javelin's one hangar, seen here with a Vanguard.
Well this is an exciting Fools Day :v:
I missed it, what happened?
I missed it, what happened?
I think it was a reference to 2.6.2 going live with the Buccaneer flight-ready (when it was scheduled for 3.0 as of the citizencon slides). I don't think CIG did anything for the 1st this year -- the website didn't have anything weird happen to it that I could see (I didn't go into [del]Discord[/del]Spectrum so maybe something was screwy there).
Been actually playing with people on servers the last day or two as well as jumping in on Star Marine. Not sure if I've lowered my standards or if they really have both improved a lot over the last two patches. Aus servers are always dead so I jumped onto US ones for Star Marine and the games were a lot smoother than they used to be. PU also has had some pretty nice fellows who have dropped a lot of cash on the game and took me around in their big boats.
Not sure how to feel yet with talk of a 2.7 patch though, I'd much rather a 3.0 timeline. For those who are more in the know, what can they technically take from the 3.0 builds and put them into a 2.7 release/what have they not yet added in 2.6.2 that was originally meant for 2.6? I was under the impression a lot of the stuff like subsumption, item 2.0, netcode, atmospheric containers, planets, etc. were all very much intertwined systems working alongside each other, hence why 3.0 was going to be such a big one. Is there stuff they can actually isolate for a 2.7 build? Would it even be worth going to the effort and isolating it for a 2.7 build? I get that they seem to have extended the 3.0 scope with mining coming now as well, but what should we realistically expect if we were to be given a 2.7?
well, both '2.7' and '3.0' would denote a major patch, the only reason 3.0 ISN'T just called 2.7 is because they decided it was a big enough jump to give it a hype-worthy name. in fact until they showed off the 3.x roadmap at gamescom last year, the big patch with planetary landings and all that WAS called 2.7...
so really the distinction is completely arbitrary, we can't really speculate on what a '2.7' would and wouldn't contain
however afaik there's actually no basis whatsoever for this 2.7 speculation, there's been no indication that the 3.0 plans have changed from CIG
much more likely, if 3.0 is still a long way off, is another 'minor' patch - 2.6.3 - to tide us over ie network improvements, delta patching, cutlass rework etc.
Until CIG announces that there's going to be an intermediate patch of any version number (2.6.3, 2.7, whatever) before the milestone release of 3.0 (which is to say, procgen planets, mission overhaul, basic bounty hunting/cargo/merc mission support, etc.), any speculation about what could come in a hypothetical 2.7 is just that - idle speculation.
The only "discussion" by CIG of a 2.7 patch this year was Todd Papy making a slip of the tongue on Reverse the Verse/Happy Hour and saying '2.7' before immediately correcting himself with '3.0' -- and remember that for a long time, "2.7" was the designated public version number for the procgen planets, and the public version number that we backers think and talk about has very little relation to CIG's internal builds, which go flying around inside the offices multiple times daily. CIG devs have to do mental translation to think about build numbers the way backers do; it's understandable that Todd might've slipped and referenced it using the old name we had for it before Citizencon and the big patch being renumbered to 3.0.
Could CIG release an intermediate patch before 3.0 with some of its features pushed ahead? Of course they could. What would it contain? How flexible are the components slated for 3.0 and what could be pushed out in isolation ahead of the megapatch? Only CIG devs could tell you. It's not something they've discussed, because there is no serious visible effort to push for a pre-3.0 patch as far as I'm aware. I may act like a walking wiki page for SC but I'm not a CryEngine/Lumberyard expert and it's not like I'm hacking into CIG's computers and reading the Bugsmasher's email, so I have no info at all here.
Also, the only things missing from 2.6.0 were the network optimizations like bind culling and the megamap for multiplayer Arena Commander/Star Marine (instead of just the hangar/SP Arena Commander in 2.6.0). Those were added in 2.6.1 and 2.6.2, along with hotfixes and bug patches and the Bucc. They cleaned up the loose ends before 3.0 with these two patches.
In my personal opinion on a hypothetical 2.7, I could see megamap for PU making its debut ahead of 3.0 so CIG can test the megamap's ability to handle their existing space stuff before they cram planet transitions into the megamap system. Basic cargo and basic bounty hunting/merc/trading could be done, if with sloppy placeholders. I wouldn't count on Subsumption, atmosphere volumes, StarNetwork 1.0, or the expanded Stanton system before the actual 3.0 milestone, though, whatever happens. Those are all fairly big things that probably don't mesh well in total isolation (except the netcode rollout).
Thanks for the info guys. The whole '2.7 being procgen planets' was way before I first backed or started following the game so I was a bit unsure of what to think with Reddit going crazy about some guy mentioning a 2.7, it makes his statement into a better light now. I guess we will just have to wait until next week or so and see what kind of schedule we get.
I just hope 3.0 is here in 1-2 months, at least for the avocados
2.6.2 went into Evocati PTU about three weeks ago. Based on how they've handled huge this-changes-everything milestone patches in the past, I expect CIG will take about three months before 3.0 is in the hands of Evocati, and that's simply because there's still so much slated for 3.0 that they aren't discussing yet. We aren't seeing AtV sneak peeks at the cargo stuff; we aren't seeing trading; we aren't seeing piracy/bounty hunting. These features aren't impossible to make, but if 3.0 was going to PTU in a month or so we'd be seeing little dev peeks on them.
Nobody really knows, of course, and CIG only has an internal target date (that they haven't discussed yet and is liable to be revised anytime) for when they'd like to get it out. They might give 3.0 Evocati/PTU/release goals on the production schedule when it's updated on Friday, but they might also pull what they've done before and let it go dormant for a month or two until the community starts getting antsy and paranoid from the lack of a visible firm schedule. We'll have to see.
I had a peek on the ship census predictions.

February and March confirmed out, so that's 8 people down. 5 in April and 6 in May are at risk of being out unless CIG has a close window after all.
Six people guessed that delta patching would be here already, too. The big bet is Q2 with 18 people.
I forgot what I put, I think April tho, so I think I already lost.

This week's vault dump is Bucc shots.
Oh, also, 2.6.3 is on PTU, open to everyone. It is a minor bugfix patch that fixes a bunch of client crashes, a few Star Marine bugs, and another fix for "all landing pads full".

If there isn't at least one fuckup it wouldn't be CIG.

2.6.3 is live, no schedule for it, although they updated the page with words, some of them being:
Although there were no plans to release another patch before our next big release, the decision was made that these issues were significant enough to do another small patch specifically to address these problems.
To me, 'next big release' is 3.0, and by the sounds of it we might have a schedule next Friday. Erin Roberts also said some stuff about player housing in the future (not 3.0 future) on some dudes Twitch stream.
