I'll just leave this here. Gotta love the new interaction system.
I can't get more than about a quarter fps in the PTU PU. I don't think it's optimized well for lower end computers, which is understandable. At least the hangars work fine though!

Archangel runs a 1080Ti and I run a Vega 64 but we both were sharing the same shitty 15FPS
Couldn't resist.
That somethingawful stamp didn't age well.

The offline method works like a charm.
The offline method works like a charm.
How do you do the offline method?
Pleased to see that arena commander works well so i can play around with ships. Seems that the starfarer has gotten a texture touchup, and overall the lighting and sounds have improved so much
How do you do the offline method?
It used to be a reddit post here. But the author deleted it because people were saying the same shit they were saying 5 years ago. But I have saved it.
Disclaimer: This isn't really "offline" mode - you still need to connect to CIG's servers for session, inventory, and general player data. But this will spawn a local-only session like with singleplayer Arena Commander, rather than connecting to the online matchmaking servers. The process is different in 3.0 compared to prior builds on account of: Everything is rolled up into a single Data.p4k file which cannot be edited (can't move map files around) Conventional map loads no longer occur past the main menu - instead there are "megamap" loads which work a bit differently. To this end there is also no more DFM_Crusader standalone map. It now seems to be rolled up into a megamap context simply called "PU" that contains everything else within it. Still, forcing the Universe environment to load manually in a singleplayer setting is pretty simple (if a bit of a crude brute-force string-swap process). Here are the steps I've found that work so far: Boot up 3.0, go into Arena Commander --> Single Player, leave everything at default (Free Flight / Broken Moon). DO NOT ACTUALLY LAUNCH YET, REMAIN IN THIS MENU UNTIL THE CHEAT ENGINE STEPS ARE COMPLETE. Install a recent build of Cheat Engine and attach it to StarCitizen.exe. Do some string searches (not case-sensitive) - for each, select all --> right-click --> add selected addresses to addresslist and then edit the "Value" in the bottom pane: String Search --> DFM_BrokenMoon --> Replace all values with PU String Search --> BrokenMoon_FreeFlight --> Replace all values with PU String Search --> DFM_FreeFlight --> Replace all values with SC_Default Finally, switch back to the game (still in the Arena Commander Singleplayer screen) and launch. It should spend a VERY long time at a black screen (you can hit tilde to pull down the console and confirm it's still responding... put log_Verbosity = 4 in your game.cfg to see what it's busy doing, it'll spew lots of errors) but eventually it should spawn you in. If you end up with a crash during load, don't fret - try it again and double-check to make sure you're getting all the string changes correct. Some interesting bits: Doing this spawned me at Levski instead of Port Olisar. Seems to indicate alternative spawn points are definitely available there, just not enabled yet on the servers. Most things work so far. mobiGlas, Starmap, Quantum Travel, ship spawning, etc. However missions have erratic results and cargo purchasing / selling doesn't seem to work. So things aren't 100% operational, just the core gameplay. The obvious benefit to this is the HUGE difference in framerates and overall performance. The game looks amazing now and runs great. Physics are much more stable too. Comment in the thread if this works for you. Enjoy!
Thanks, it worked!
regarding server performance atm this is what I think they're doing: they're limiting the server equalization thing for the cloud stuff and now they check what parts of the network are getting hit the most (iirc they mentioned the ptu account copying for instance) so technically they could expand and lower the overall load but they want to make it as small as possible for the full ptu launch, if you get what I mean
Is there a way to travel short distances faster? I don't think you're supposed to spend 30 minutes getting to your destination on a planet after quantum jumping there anyway. :v:
Is there a way to travel short distances faster? I don't think you're supposed to spend 30 minutes getting to your destination on a planet after quantum jumping there anyway. :v:
.there are short range orbital qt destinations all over an planet, and you can now travel more than 1kms in a straight line in most ships, so getting down to a planet isn't that bad. Just because of shit framerstes does it seem to take so long.
Anvil Hammerhead
[vid]https://giant.gfycat.com/PaleSlushyBluebird.webm[/vid]
Four times the turrets so you can be four times as useless in a fight :vs:
Look at how easy those would be to just shoot off. You take a single missile at the joint and BAM, you lost a turret AND a crewmate

So, now is my chance to swap up some LTI to a Merchantman right? If I buy an LTI Warbond Hawk, what's the steps I would take to get that LTI onto it? Melt my BMM for store credit then upgrade the new Hawk to a BMM again, then use my remaining store credit to rebuy the Hawk again?

LTI and warbond are separate things, however. You get LTI on the version of the Hawk that you can purchase with store credit. So here's what you'd do: 1. Melt BMM for store credit 2. Buy a Hawk with store credit 3. Buy the Hawk->BMM CCU with store credit and apply to Hawk Result: One LTI BMM, no additional melting necessary If you buy a warbond Hawk because you want to pony up the price in cash, you could melt your BMM and apply the Hawk->BMM CCU to your warbond Hawk and use the spare store credit for a non-warbond Hawk and possibly save $10, but it's basically the same.
on the topic of pledge shuffling, is it possible to melt and then buyback a package to undo an upgrade? I'm expecting the buyback to attribute my original pledge package to me without the *numerous* ccus I've applied to it :v: [editline]27th November 2017[/editline] using a buyback token to get it back with store credit ofc

Be warned that if you got a discounted starter package in the anni sale (any year), you may not be able to unmelt it at all. If it's an ordinary package, though, it should be fine.
Come to think of it, I wonder if some of the performance issues people are noticing are because CIG has extra debug tools and such setup and running, to make it easier to collect data. Those can usually add a ton of overhead (best example I've got is Vulkan, where FPS can decrease 5-6x with validation layers on). Regardless, I'm getting pretty interested and excited. I'm sure it'll be a bit of a mess on launch regardless (can't help that), but oh my does it look pretty. And it seems that it handles better, yeah? How clunky player movement and interaction felt was a serious bother with the last major release.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/EU8YVNT.jpg[/t] Almost all the performance issues people are reporting are caused by either the server shitting the bed, or from their machine just not being up to snuff (like mine in that one 50-player session where Star Citizen used so much RAM it shoved everything else onto disk swap and then began shoving itself onto swap so memory calls ran at the speed of 5600rpm disk I/O, meaning 1 frame per 3 minutes). I'm sure there are a number of reasons for the server problems and extra debug monitoring is probably a small part of that overhead. When it's actually running at a modestly playable speed, 3.0 is fucking great fun. It's just almost never in that condition at the moment. Pray for stability patches and expanded PTU rollout this week.
Yeah the PTU is not very RAM optimized sadly, but i can at least enjoy the hangars and arena commander to play around with ships.

Or would I end up losing the things included in that package, like Squadron 42 for example?
How are people playing 3.0? I've been a backer since Kickstarter, but I can't seem to play 3.0.
Would it be worth melting my Anniversary Aurora LX to upgrade to the Hawk? LTI + all the other goodies seems like a good deal to me. Or would I end up losing the things included in that package, like Squadron 42 for example?
First, if that's your only game package, you would lose access to the game entirely, as the LTI Hawk is only a ship, not a game access package. If you melt a game package, everything in that package goes byebye and to replace it (other than buying it straight back) you must buy a new package from what is currently available on the shop unless you have another old package in your buyback queue. If your anniversary Aurora LX is not attached to a critical game package, and you would prefer a Hawk, then sure I guess go ahead and melt it. But if it's attached to your only game package and you want a Hawk, your choices are: - Pay for a CCU to upgrade your LX to a Hawk, but you don't get LTI or the ship/poster swag - Buy a Hawk outright without melting your package and get LTI and the usual concept-sale goodies It's really up to you to decide what option, if any, is worth it. I'd personally recommend buying a warbond LTI Hawk outright, but you really have to ask yourself if you're prepared to drop $80 on a bounty-hunting fighter that probably won't be ready for a year.

I have a Mustang Omega that has SQ42 and SC so I would still have the game in this situation, the only thing I'd lose out on is a 2yr insured luxury starter ship. So in this case I can melt the package, get 45 in credit, and then put that into the hawk right? And is the warbond hawk something I could/should take advantage of? [editline]27th November 2017[/editline] Shit, I should probably gift the package to my friend in exchange for 45 USD, then just buy the hawk huh? The current packages don't even give out 2yrs of insurance or SQ42 for the 45$ it's valued at. [editline]27th November 2017[/editline] I don't really mind that a ship won't be ready for a year when the game itself won't be ready for another 5-8 anyway, so it's a moot point.
How are people playing 3.0? I've been a backer since Kickstarter, but I can't seem to play 3.0.
PTU access is, for the current moment, gated to three specific groups (and some backers qualify as more than one): - Concierge (spent over $1,000 total on the game) - Subscribers ($10 or $20 per month to fund the community team and their YouTube shows/etc. rather than that coming out of the money earmarked for game development) - Wave 1 testers, a list of some thousands of people selected semi-arbitrarily for testing public PTU builds CIG has added people to wave 1 based on good Issue Council bug reporting and diligent PTU testing (hitting several builds in one PTU, not just coming in once and going la dee da ok that's cool I saw the new thing), but they've also added people who've just been online and active in RSI/Spectrum chat at the time when liveops needed people for a smoke test on a nearly-ready release candidate for a minor patch so they only need to run PTU for like 3 hours. This is why I say it's semi-arbitrary. CIG also doesn't seem to prune the list at all, unless you get banned or something obviously. I expect they will expand PTU to wave 2, which is the second-tier of randos let in. Every wave is a major increase in player population with access; by wave 2 or 3 CIG typically has 100k backers in the PTU. It must be said that this is a better way of doing it than what they did with PTU 2.0, which was to pick some testers for the initial early phases (that's how I got in), and then add people by citizen number -- including a lot of people who didn't bother downloading anything because they're waiting for the game to be "finished". I disagree with being able to buy into PTU via subscriptions, but as I've said here before, since they added the new perks the quality of AtV has gone way up and Happy Hour is way better than RtV, so it's kind of hard to argue with the results.
Hm, ok. I have a Mustang Omega that has SQ42 and SC so I would still have the game in this situation, the only thing I'd lose out on is a 2yr insured luxury starter ship. The current packages don't even give out 2yrs of insurance or SQ42 for the 45$ it's valued at.
Warbond means you'll be paying with cash only in exchange for a minor discount. If you greymarket your package to your friend instead of melting it, you can take the cash you get from buddy and apply that to the cash you'd be paying to pay up the rest of the Hawk and get it warbond for $80 instead of mixing store credit and having to pay $90. And, in that case, you get a Hawk for effectively $35 over what you've already pledged, and your friend gets a legacy package before the SQ42/MMO package split and it's got anniversary insurance instead of normal insurance as the cherry on top. That seems like the optimal solution, if your friend is on board with buying in with your package. The one real advantage an LX has, aside from the paint job and the same leather seat as the LN, is that it comes preinstalled with a jump drive, meaning you can get out of a star system with it the instant it's replaced by hull insurance, unlike any other Aurora which'll require aftermarket upgrades (unless you had module insurance but we don't even know how that works yet) to play in wormholes. It's nice but the LX isn't really a "~luxury~" ship in the same class as the Origin series or the Connie Phoenix's varnished-wood-and-polished-metal glitz. Speaking of Origin, their sale's now on. And the 890 Jump is back on sale for the first time since its concept, in limited numbers. Ship Shape is about the 600i, seemingly no mention of the 3xx reworks yet, but at this point all I would expect is concept art, so maybe they'll sneak them in somewhere.
