Star Citizen Megathread v. procedurally-generated deadlines

Warbond means you'll be paying with cash only in exchange for a minor discount. If you greymarket your package to your friend instead of melting it, you can take the cash you get from buddy and apply that to the cash you'd be paying to pay up the rest of the Hawk and get it warbond for $80 instead of mixing store credit and having to pay $90.
And, in that case, you get a Hawk for effectively $35 over what you've already pledged, and your friend gets a legacy package before the SQ42/MMO package split and it's got anniversary insurance instead of normal insurance as the cherry on top. That seems like the optimal solution, if your friend is on board with buying in with your package.
The one real advantage an LX has, aside from the paint job and the same leather seat as the LN, is that it comes preinstalled with a jump drive, meaning you can get out of a star system with it the instant it's replaced by hull insurance, unlike any other Aurora which'll require aftermarket upgrades (unless you had module insurance but we don't even know how that works yet) to play in wormholes. It's nice but the LX isn't really a "~luxury~" ship in the same class as the Origin series or the Connie Phoenix's varnished-wood-and-polished-metal glitz.
Yeah the LX was a fantastic package at the time, and my friend is on the fence about it, but hopefully this package is enough to entice him. I'd be happy knowing my friend has it rather than melting it out of existence. Besides, if I really want a Jump Drive, I'll just buy one for one of my other ships. I don't think an LX would be the best thing to have when you're alone in an unknown system.

Also, how accurate is this site for roughly calculating the value of a package?

If you get impatient and melt it and he then decides that he wants to go for it, you can at least use the buyback to get it back and gift it to him, so either way you can get a Hawk (if you act before the end of the concept sale) and he'll be able to get the package now or later.
If you want to sell him on SC, show him 3.0 gameplay, but cherrypick stuff that doesn't show the PTU at its worst, since those kinks are temporary in the long-term view. I'm not saying to lie about the current state of the PTU, if he asks if what he's seeing is playable explain how it's on PTU and not ready for live yet, but pick from the better clips. :v:
If that isn't enough for him, well, no pressure. As I mentioned, you can always fish the package back up (until CIG hits the pledge-store-is-dead cutoff, but if he hasn't decided by then he didn't need the favour anyway lol) from the buyback queue with the $45 he hands you in cash/paypal.
I wouldn't take an LX as my ship for deep-space exploration in unknown systems. It remains to be seen if an LX can even fit a jump scanner (i.e. searching for undiscovered systems), although there's no reason it couldn't but it may have to sacrifice other things to compensate, such as needing a bigger powerplant or not powering up weapons while the scanner's on or whathaveyou.
I'd take a 315p or my Herald for exploring a new system. It's the 315p's entire point for existing and I can rig up the necessary exploration package to the Herald and take advantage of its big fuckoff engines if trouble rolls up on me. :v:

I don't have any involvement in the grey market so as far as I'm concerned, buyer beware.
Could be completely legit, I have no info about site reputations at all. I just know that the heart of the SC grey market community is /r/starcitizen_trades and it should be able to give you a reliable baseline for current market rates.

Too late, he made me watch a 1hr video of a first glimpse of 3.0, and whoever was playing spent probably 25 of 60 minutes trying to get his mobiglas to play nice. :v: Good news is he loves the persistent universe, in the sense that he can really go anywhere. I'm going to just buy the hawk outright for now, and if he doesn't want it, I'll probably sell the LX for a few bucks more to somebody else and save even more money in the process.
well, at least you can tell him that as of two days ago you no longer need to mash the mobiglass button for 5 minutes to get it to do anything [del]for now[/del]
How are people playing 3.0? I've been a backer since Kickstarter, but I can't seem to play 3.0.
Have you spent more than $1000 on the game, become a subscriber, or were part of the First Wave / Evocati testers?
I wonder if i should melt down my game package "mustang upgraded to a cutlass black" when the discounted starters come, and then buy one of the anniversary starters with the store credit, hmmm.
I wonder if i should melt down my game package "mustang upgraded to a cutlass black" when the discounted starters come, and then buy one of the anniversary starters with the store credit, hmmm.
Depending on what the discount actually is, it may or may not be worth it, but keep it in the back of your mind.
If you backed before SC and SQ42 were split off into separate items to purchase, you'll have to take into account the extra $15 to get SQ42 -- if the discount is under $15 you're taking a straight loss at minimum. If you backed after the split in early 2016, your package is already like this so you're not losing out on anything.
Uh, so you can upgrade the warbond hawk for 90 instead of 80, so I'm really thinking about upgrading to the cutlass black to get that in LTI, then keeping that as is to use so I can fulfill my dream of being a dropship pilot. I can finally be a shit wearing aviators who warns everyone, "we're in for some chop" and " We're in the pipe 5 by 5."
So I finally tried flying the Cutlass in 3.0's PTU build. Thank Christ they put gimballed lasers on it. Its default armament is just hard-hitting enough to devastate a careless fighter pilot, and very effective against AI at the moment.
I think it's in a great place now, and its overall utility will make it just the sort of ship I use for general purpose missions, or when I don't know what to expect. Its maneuverability seems about equivalent with the Vanguard Warden, which is quite decent for a ship of its particular bulk. It's no superiority fighter, and while it's a brawler, much like the Vanguard, it's better suited to prey on larger, slower ships, not more agile ones.
In PVP, the Cutlass's biggest weakness is going to be its huge profile - hitting it is not going to require any special skill, and even slicing individual parts off it with sustained fire is easy. Not a ship I would at all recommend for anyone hoping to actually survive a PVP engagement against something like the Super Hornet or Sabre without suffering heavy damage - not unless we see some crazy meta build or a hell of a good pilot/gunner combo.
The interior is gorgeous and displays SC's first concrete idea of a functional ship interior, complete with (as yet unscripted) component housings, a wide interior space for storage of a modest bounty of cargo, doors within and without specially placed for maximum accessibility and utility, and a feel of being lived-in and rugged. Make no mistake - this is not a ship you want to take into an engagement against multiple small fighter aircraft without support (Unless they're piloted by this patch's particularly docile brand of AI). Its incredible utility (Storage enough for space bikes to launch for fighter defense, as well as retrieval missions) makes up for its vulnerability to heavily-armed dedicated fighters. By comparison, the Vanguard right now just glitches out if you try to store stuff inside it; every retrieval mission in it is a gamble.
In short, when the Drake anniversary sale comes on, and as a player who wants to play as a bounty hunter, I'm definitely going to be taking a good hard look at my options for melting down one of my ships to upgrade my Cutlass Black to the Cutlass Blue - because I know what they do with it is going to be awesome.
All I want now is the patch to make the engine nacelles do what they used to, once:

You might want to reconsider the aviators, unless they're worn inside your pressurized helmet. Whether owing to a glitch or Drake's stellar build quality, the Cutlass interior has only a third of a bar of atmospheric pressure.

I think i first backed in early 2017 or late 2016.
I got the mustang+squadron 42 pack.
And afaik if i were to melt down the mustang, i'd still have squadrom 42 when id get a new package

If you actually bought the SQ42 package separately at full price, yes. If you bought it as an add-on, I haven't actually bought a package after the split so I don't know how that shit's handled, so if it's just sitting as an extra thing on your account that could be melted by itself and doesn't get melted with your package, then I guess SQ42 doesn't factor into melting your game packages post-split. Huh, interesting.
Makes sense that they'd have it as a separate SKU rather than keep having to have "SQ42" added as a feature to packages and having some that do and some that don't give it. CIG's made ass-backwards decisions that have caused messes like that before, so it's good to see them learning. :v:

Perfectly stationary, I fear.
yeah they've been stationary for a long while now, but it's mostly due to that cool twisty motion being really goofy and overactive if you're doing finite maneuvers. In the very least we can hope the buggers will eventually fold down for landings (if only to use those smaller sub-engines), big moving parts in a slow approach have such good presence

Yeah in my hangar they're separated into:
Package - Squadron 42 Add-On - Valentine Edition
and Package - Mustang SC Starter - Valentines Warbond Edition which is upgraded to a cutlass black
BMM LTI. Thanks for the help everyone!
Do the connie's big engines rotate or have they also been made static (aside from the sideways movement when going into SCM)? That was one of the main selling points for me
Isn't the PTU in wave 2 already? I think I usually get in with wave 3.
Waiting for 3.0 feels like deja vu. By that I mean the last big patch was conveniently announced right next to the anniversary, like this 3.0, and released by December 23rd(star marine patch 2.6). This is what I just looked up, but going further back, there was patch 2.0 crusader, I was very excited for that one, since it was star citizen first entry in to the PU. Made a couple of videos, and it was also released in December... 2 years ago.
I hope they can get a vaguely playable version out this year
Oh wow, the discounted starters have 60 month insurance too, i think that solidifies my plan to melt down my current package~
The Aurora starter is an LX, no less. The LX includes a jump drive as standard; it's the only one out of the box to let you leave a star system.

Anyone know what happened to the character customisation stuff they originally had listed on their Production Schedule? I havn't seen any mention of it lately, and I'm not sure if it related to the MobiGlass app, or if it was for creating custom characters, eg. custom faces
They haven't made any official announcements but character customization slid from the schedule report at some point as they approached Evocati. However, that could've been a case of it wasn't going to be quite ready in time and it's been pushed back.
This is working on the assumption that character customization still meant picking different hair/face/etc. and not changing clothes/equipment in MobiGlas. Thing is, I remember an AtV in the not too distant past that was about character clothing and gear, and they used the desert nomad gear as an example of clothing that was undergoing rework because they were going to allow us piece-by-piece customization control in 3.0 -- and that's in the game on PTU now. So, if character customization for 3.0 really was just the mobiglas app and changing your gear, well, that's not nearly as ambitious as I thought it was, but mission accomplished.
actually would rather they move as much off the 3.0 release as possible
there's already way too many things they're trying to release at once, sure we'll get a huge boost of content with 3.0, but it would help everyone's sanity to release this stuff more incrementally
