Star Citizen Megathread v. procedurally-generated deadlines

After reading some of the spoilers for RE7 and looking at some of the gameplay, I'm not as much excited for it now.
I was really looking forward to a new gameplay to play. Ugh.
Eesh, awkward.
Uh. So I might buy SC when 3.0 release, but as stated it might not be until April!
I have nothing else to play right now :(

I mean, if you want to buy in now, nobody's going to stop you.
But you should only buy in now after being aware of what's available. (Ignore the attempt to sell you a package on that page, just look at the current features.) You may also want to watch streamers playing live gameplay for a few hours, because you'll get a fairly good idea of what the game is like now.
We recommend that you wait until the major patch coming, but we can't read your mind and know whether or not you would actually enjoy the game as-is now. It is very much an alpha in terms of performance and stability, though, so you'd best be ready for that if you go for it.
Also, "April" is just my guess; it could come out basically anytime in the next seven months, since CIG has a habit of underestimating how long huge overhaul changes take. We're expecting it to take roughly three months, which would mean the end of Q1/early Q2, but delays are practically guaranteed--we just don't know just how bad it could be.
Understandable. It's just a very hard decision for me. Some people spring off $40 like it's just pocket change. I'm not street poor yet by no means, but a person has to have some fun when they're in the dumps.
My rule of thumb is that if you have to ask if it's worth buying Star Citizen right now, you shouldn't buy it yet.

Quite fitting really.
Oh god I can validate almost everything about that. The best thing that happened to this forum since Rust went viral was when the Rust subforum was emigrated to FP2.0 on labpunch.
new heads and hair revealed in ATV, sounds like it's moving along decently in the pipeline to public

I like how the Buccaneer's boxy and simple design wouldn't even look out of place in Freelancer. There's something about seeing a silly spaceship ass spaceship that isn't taking itself so seriously that makes me happy.

I don't think it fits in Freelancer, it doesn't look nearly awful enough from an artstyle perspective for that. :v:
However it DOES look like something you could see in Star Wars, though that might be due to the boxy canopy and large cylindrical engine pods.
[editline]20th January 2017[/editline]
Also, how long is the Buccaneer supposed to be? That canopy is huge and makes it look tiny.
20m length, here's a quick comparison with the current hangar cutlass (29)

I love my Cutass
How much bigger is the cutlass supposed to become, anyways? I have one, and I'm really interested in seeing what I can expect.
I feel like it definitely needs a size upgrade, so I'm hoping it's pretty big.
HUUUGE
[t]http://i.imgur.com/cP50f8a.jpg[/t]
I've heard it's up to 33% larger in profile, with the internals proportionally larger. Take the % change with a grain of salt though, since the only people I ever see reciting it are the saltiest veterans of the cutlass threads who are angry they're getting a vanguard-adjacent upgrade, instead of avenger-adjacent with the same (if not larger) cargo capacity as it currently has.
[editline]e[/editline]
most of the size change is visibly vertical, and a bit more length from what I'm seeing, so its overall profile should stay in line with t he current broad ass-end engine positions we have already

Oh, good, I love a bigger target.

As long as they don't become even MORE tanky than they already are in 2.6... plinking those suckers after shredding their engines off is rather tedious.
TBH I'll probably acquire another Cutlass of my own in-universe to travel around in. It makes the perfect small ship for one man or a crew of two/three.

if anything the engines are likely to get tanky with a proper balance pass, with the old model they're total paper and tend to stick out of the shields. Again, it's becoming more like the vanguard within the drake lineup so it's going to be a less seen, but much meaner ship
Damn, I'm glad I got a cutlass then.
I hope there's room for my dragonflies now. Maybe comfortable enough for 2 people to "live on" as explorers.

Aw damn I'm so ready.
I'm glad they got rid of those silly spinning cans on the side of the cargo hold.

The maneuvering thrusters? Darn. I liked those.
Are they going to scale down the cockpit at all? I remember a while back someone pointing out how large the cockpits were on a lot of the ships and it's really noticeable just looking at the images on this page.

Not likely unless they redesign the ships (again)

odd cathedral-sized cockpit due to it being visually scaled to the old concept art, which was supposed to be more fighter-sized.
I was pointing it out in discord a while back, but since then we've been given this tidbit which makes more sense of the seats being on the floor like that-
[t]http://i.imgur.com/6wk2aaN.png[/t]
this also overcomes the fact that there's a huge plate blocking the view in front of the cockpit, since now that ends up below the pilot's floor-level. The view is going to be amazing but people are still gonna bitch about the metal framing obstructing their view
I wonder what happens with the space below though, still feels like it's still wasted space (but at least might grant passengers a view outside if they have nothing else to do). I do feel it'll look and feel fine in practice, but at LEAST give me some technobabble or technical thing to make sense of it, like if the floor underneath it becomes a ramp for the front entrance (in place of the old ladder/side door)
gameplay-wise I welcome it because it means stray passengers can't walk up and shoot you for your ship mid-flight

*more words*
Yeah, I get the origins. It just seems like this really weird, unnecessary, middle ground between a cockpit and a proper bridge. It seems like a general theme with some ships, though. I know it was pointed out with the Hornet a while ago and the Buccaneer seems like it really has more glass and stuff than is really necessary for a normal cockpit.
Cathedral cockpits is a really great term.
