game in general is good fun thus far, but i think some of the item unlocks are a little too late. like you don't get a first aid kit or a different pistol until like level 15 or something like that, it's a bit silly.
Glad the game is shaping up well. Had fun at lunch but I'll let it simmer a bit longer before getting back into it.
Do guns ever do more than tickle other players? I know I'm still very early in the unlocks but an entire mag seems to take maybe a small chunk off of players health while melee is basically a one shot kill.
Damage fall off and where you hit matter. Within a weapons effective range a headshot is always a one shot kill IIRC. Weapons like the winfield/caldwell conversion have medium effective range (30-40~M), but use compact ammo which is the weakest. Do remember that every hunter has a total of 150 hp as well. Shotguns still fall under the video game shotgun trope of "short range high damage" as well. As for melee, anything that's an actual melee weapon will always do a lot of damage, with headshots obviously being a 1 shot in most cases.
Use the Romero 77. It is absurdly good, even at mid-range thanks to the rending damage it inflicts. A shot at near pointblank will down most hunters.
I played my first game today and I got a good shot in at one guy but then he clubbed me to death and I lost a character 4 minutes in.
The game looks great but my performance goes from 30fps to 60fps maxed out at 1080p but it's jittery when I really need all my frames, partly why I missed my shot at the group I ran into
Free weekend!
Give me the 4 1 1 folks - what's there to know before my buds and I jump in?
Oh hot damn, I should get in while the fresh meat is running around.
You're going to die.
A lot.
sound is everything, crouch-walk if you think there's a hunter nearby. dogs and bees are motherfuckers.
Thank god for the free weekend, I finally got to try this game out. I'm really surprised about how well it runs on my computer!
Managed to survive my first mission (playing solo) right now, got into a tense firefight with two players, during which I actually killed one and grabbed his bounty before stealthily sneaking off, leaving the other guy behind. I never actually fought a single zombie or monster thing, so that was neat. Crawling all across the map towards an extraction point, every little noise made me jump. I jumped straight from level one to level 6 or 7, is that normal or did I get really lucky?
Higher levels require exponentially more XP.
Does this game still have the annoying off-center crosshairs?
I finally won a game. it my 3rd game and my partner's first but we came through.
The spider killed most of the other players and the last remaining guy ambushed us and shot me in the head. Luckily my teammate got him and extraction was close
So, typing instead of using a mic seems to be the way to go in this game? People can just hear you when you talk, but I guess they can't read your chat messages if you're nearby? Managed to escape from two Russian guys because they were talking on their mics the entire time, telling me exactly where they were located.
first match went poorly but then my second match we got to the butcher in a basement and held off against group after group it was incredible

Text chat is also seen and if not louder.
It makes a loud BEEP whenever someone is chatting in proximity and it shows faded text. The amount of people that fall for this is amazing.
This game is too intense for me to play back to back games
Ah alright, thanks for letting me know. Started being a lot more quiet during my hunts now
I'm getting really sad that the free weekend ends in like 7 hours, having quite a lot of fun with the game.
it's your lucky day.

This game can be so damn cool but I really disapprove of the progression system/matchmaking.
Nothing feels worse than being on a roll with a friend but getting shut down by enemies that have insanely stronger gear than you.
I don't see why they had to include a machine gun and pretty much modern semi-automatic shotgun that only people with a lot of playtime can obtain. It takes way less skill to use them so they should be something new players get to ease them into the game.
Just looking at the progression chart made me shake my head.
Because those guns are 10 times to 100 times more expensive than the basic guns. Risk/reward.
Is it a risk, though?
The money you use is something outside of actual gameplay. This money can be racked up by just playing a lot (see the pattern?).
I could accept it as risk/reward balancing if there actually was a risk of straight up dying ingame if you had to fight your way through a heavily infested NPC battle arena to earn it or something like that.
the Mosin Avtomat is one of the coolest fucking guns i've seen in anything ever though so it gets a free pass on being unbalanced as shit
Definitely is a risk. Just because someone has 10x more expensive gear, doesn't stop a well placed headshot from draining 1000 dollars from someone. I've killed people using 300$ and up gear with less than 80$ equipment. I will concede that the more expensive items give a base line advantage (honestly the crown & king is really strong and its locked at level 95~), but there's always the capacity to outplay or out-skill someone with better gear.
Plus the risk usually is the players rather than the NPC's, although I do hope they change that because they're a joke to get past except for the hell hounds.
Yes...
Nothing stops an Avtomat shitter than a well-placed Caldwell revolver shot.
Had an instance where me and my bud were just trotting our way to a banish when we got ganked by 3 dudes (who I later found out were teaming, they travelled along the same shoreline next to each other), one avtomat dude and the rest were vetterli / winny folk. The avtomat guy only got a burst out before I simply hit him straight in the medulla oblongata with some shitty 7$ pistol. My friend managed to snipe the rest.
There is deffo a risk to using high-end gear, it also means you can excel at certain aspects, like Avtomats are disgusting at close-range and don't think for a second a wooden wall will save you from it, but as soon as you catch em out in the open or at a distance, you have probably more leeway cause they need to close in.
Just "ran the gauntlet" with my ballsy teammate and holy shit was that something. One team got impatient while we were fighting the spider so we had to fight them both at the same time and then one of them popped my partner in the head and for some reason he looked away while I went to revive him. We killed that guy then after we got the spider, his teammate ran into a trap we set and died.
