Runescape V8 - I don't know, I just wanted a runescape thread that wasn't about the 2007 version

Despite the fact that the game is probably destined for the grave now, I'm still going to continue playing 07scape since I'm enjoying it too much.
Also two guys just randomly gave me full rune armor and a party hat, so I feel compelled to continue on.

I simply don't believe that people will simply let the game shut down. Someone will try to keep things going.
its not going to die. you wouldn't invest 300 million into a company like jagex, that has no other lifeforce outside of runescape (Which sure as hell aint gonna make that money back within like 10 years) if you just want a quick buck. they aren't going to make things worse than they already are, that would cause even more players to leave, and they know it.
The chinese would.
The chinese would.
who in their right mind would spend 300 million to make 50 million back from a cheap cashgrab?

iunno man bad business men exist
They're probably a bunch of chinesemen who got scammed once on RuneScape and bought Jagex so they can run it into the ground for revenge.
How lively is deadman mode/is it worth getting into? With darkscape getting shut down and those 5x experience rates it looks interesting
So I just got back into this game after like 4 years of absence. So much has changed. The game has lost so much of it's charm and liveliness.
So many of the specialized worlds hardly have any people in them, even the main trade world feels empty. People would rather stand around the GE flaunting their cosmetic items... oh god, why are these a thing? The art style is fucking ridiculous too. I just want to play castle wars, but it's so empty.
I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I feel like I should try old school, but I don't want to start all the way over.

You're not suited to Runescape, it's oldschool or nothing.

Much as the name suggests.
Ugh, finally. After 2 days of jumping around in Canifis.

I thought similarly about switching to old school, but it's turned out to be incredibly worth it.
I thought the concept of Old School RuneScape was dumb as hell until I actually tried it.
I was kind of put off by OldSchool at first because it only had half as many players as RS3 but it feels so much more alive

Trust me - OSRS is so much better then that RS3 crap. The world is still pretty alive and it's active. It's worth starting over. Trust me - I was in the same position as you and am glad I did start over on OSRS.

Actually the concurrent players thing on the main RS3 page is the combination of old school and RS3 players. It's usually pretty 50/50 player split
Currently it says 70k and the old school page says 35k players. So the remaining 35k are on RS3

that's gotta be embarassing for the rs3 devs
Just started playing Runescape (old of course) again after 10 years.
My God the nostalgia is real...
What do people like about Oldschool?

The combat system is less intensive, graphics are made less to be thrust into your face and rather left up to the imagination, numbers aren't massively inflated just so people's e-peen can increase, wheel of absolute wonders is removed (thus restoring much of the original difficulty of the game), and PK-ing is much, much more viable and a fun sport.

it's harder, more rewarding, less content bloat, no mtx cosmetics or xp boosts, tighter connection with the dev team and the community
RS3 is more endgame focused compared to oldschool. Getting to 120 in a skill is about the same as getting a 99 in osrs. Not to say getting a 99 on rs3 is easy, but the exp rates are higher due to the higher focus on endgame content.
Oldschool can't really have that endgame focus due how the combat works.
Are there any useful OSbuddy features I should know about? I have the drop overlay thing on, but I didn't even know if you hold control you can toggle which items it should show. Any other things I probably missed?

And by "less intensive" you mean "click and wait".
The graphics are truly sub-par to anything made this century.
I'm neutral on the subject of numbers, though "massively inflated" is overstating it by a pretty big amount.
There's no such thing as a "wheel of wonders" in RS3.
I'll take you on our word for the PKing thing, since I have never given a fuck about that.
Old school is harder, but more casual in the sense you're not bombarded with content.
Not to mention the community is a++ and that's what makes or breaks an mmo
"Harder" in this context means "more grind-intensive", not "more difficult".
And you're fucking deluded if you don't think OSRS's community is toxic as can be.
OSRS has a lot of charm to it and if you don't find it fun then you shouldn't play it.
Call me mad but I've always had no issues playing Old School Runescape as if it were a single player game. Selling stuff on the grand exchange and the occasional chat is about the most interaction I do in the game.
most of the chatting and interaction I see in Old School is people talking about smoking weed
Most of the time I'm on its about people having sex more than anything. I have to admit I find it amusing because the censors would of never of allowed it in the past.
Whaaat? I play ftp and I talk to people all the time, everyone's always friendly. I've gotten 650k in random gifts just this week.
But yes, it is more grindy. It's everyone's favorite game to play while doing other things! Rs3 caters too much, it's become a lesser game because of it. See: teleport everywhere. Haha no, in old school, you're walking unless you're a mage.
Tbh you're being a bit toxic yourself
The only thing I miss is dungeoneering. I wish it was brought back as a mini games or something, not a skill
Caters too much? I hear this sort of thing from you people a lot, and it always reminds me of stereotypical old men.
"In my day we had to do everything by hand and it took us forever! We had none of these new-fangled inventions to talk to each other, or look at things! Things were better in old times when all we had was a hoop and a stick to play with for five minutes between ploughing or chimney sweeping!"
They really weren't. It was just more annoying.
I mean, this only anecdotal, but I haven't been harassed once on RS3 compared to multiple times in OS. I also notice the RS3 community is a lot kinder.
