A ton of people use it, and they have a Pro version as well that you pay for monthly. I'd consider it to be pretty safe to use.
2 people i know have been using OSBuddy and tell me its safe. I may also try it today.
As for the story of the guy logging in to find his account banned, it's amazing how common this problem is. I've probably seen the same story posted 4 times since it happened to me. I really wish they would get on top of the botting. The game would be very different without it

Hit the settings wheel in the top right and in the pop up box at the bottom left you can see how many people are playing OSRS, and how many of them are using OSBuddy. Currently, 27000 people. It's perfectly safe, the company that made it makes a ton of money from the Pro subscription (I pay for it too) so they'd lose a lot of their validity and trust if they started randomly hacking accounts - they also make enough money this way so it would be stupid for them to hack accounts in order to sell gold

Me and my mate got this far with DMM seasons last night,

we were planning on completing the ardougne easy diaries and on the way to do Plague City we decided to use the wilderness leaver for quick transport
We had used it earlier in the evening, and another friend in our clan chat used it 5 minutes prior and it was completely clear. I pulled the leaver, was greeted by maybe 15 members of a clan, all skulled with a number of bank keys that destroyed the two of us and took all of our shit. I nearly made it away too, had 3 seconds left on the log out timer and I'd still have my stuff now
I'm not too bothered, we had been playing for nearly 8 hours and thought we had lost everything but it really isn't that big a deal. Our most important skills were locked, we only lost a tiny bit of magic and prayer xp, and it took us maybe another 90 mins last night to thieve our way up to 20k. Gonna head out now and start buying gear and we're basically back at the same point as before we died. Really loving deadman mode

yeah, they made chat sensors a toggle option a few years ago. bout damn time, i had ran out of ways to say fuck.
Just logged in to my OSRS account and man a lot has changed since I left. I just got a solid trucking job where I drive from terminal to terminal and once in a while I'll have to bed down in a hotel. It'll be nice to fire up some RS on my laptop to kill some time after sleeping before getting called back to work.

Buy a Crossbow and Bronze Bolts in the Varrock archery shop and kill men around Varrock. Pick up the herbs, they tend to sell for between 200-300 up to several thousand each. Buy a Bone Crossbow and bolts and go kill some Chaos Druids in the Edgeville dungeon. Alternatively, if you have high Agility(70+) you can kill them at the Taverley dungeon and use the HH jump or Blue Dragon pipe to escape if you're being attacked. Most people won't have high enough agility to pursue you.
GWD2 is pretty neat.

The T80 armor doesn't degrade, but can be upgraded to T85 which'll degrade back to T80.

yeah, look for the "fixed size" pictogram under in-game settings [t]http://i.imgur.com/hEykQmD.png[/t]
osbuddy can rescale the game to the size of the window
