Started playing on my hcim again today.
It's fun
i just did my first ever elite clue

i did 3 quests to get a pair of rune platelegs and 20 tuna potatoes
[editline]30th November 2016[/editline]
i enjoy questing but in aid of the myreque might be the worst quest i've ever done, i found one small favour and regicide fine unlike most people
in aid of the myreque is just so tedious, you have to keep teleporting in and out of the town to fetch planks and bronze axes and then that stupid prick ivan kept dying to the vampyres
what, you can do it without tping in and out of town? and the vampyres are pretty easy tbh
So I only found out about this just now but apparently all year anyone with a membership account is able to access Runescape Classic to get into that.
It ends on December 31st so if you haven't logged into Runescape Classic on your account by that point in time you've lost your chance and will have to wait for it to get reopened at some point in the future if you want to play on official servers. Anyone who logs in before then will naturally still be able to play RS Classic.

Get in while you still can, I guess.
don't they do that every few years? i remember seeing stuff like this back in 2012-ish, before they started up 07scape.
oh wait, you wrote that. my bad, reading words lol.
on another note, i can't seem to get into a classic server. i have the client and membership, but when i click on a classic server, it brings up a "open jagex-jav" and only gives me the windows 10 app store as a choice.

Try both the latest and the legacy client listed here. https://www.runescape.com/download
If you're using NXT that might be the cause of it but I'm not entirely sure. If neither the latest nor the legacy client works then I'm out of ideas aside from thinking it's Windows 10's fault somehow.

Put offers in, logged off for 2 hours and logged in to this.
I've sold all of them since and they're crashing at the moment, so wouldn't recommend flipping them atm.
Found an uncharted island with 12 alaea crablets, 9 ornate tortles, 7 normal tortles, 2 exuberry bushes, dead moai (ancestral energy supply), 1 bamboo and 1 mushroom cluster. + 2 arch ruins. (yes, arch.)
My reaction when i was exploring the island:

In modern Runescape, a part of the eastern lands came out (The Arc) a few months ago. basically a thing is that they use their own non-tradable currency (Chimes) that you earn from gathering other non-tradable ingredients (like sea salt, bamboo, whatever) and refine that into Chimes (either by selling the items raw, or cooking them into stews/gumbo), then you buy Resources that acts as fuel to find an uncharted island.
Functionally, they act as randomly generated locations. you can plant a flag down on an island you like so that you can come back to it cheaply for later. though an island you marked doesn't regenerate their resources until after a daily reset. there's only some resources you can find on uncharted islands.
Materials > Chimes > Resources > Islands (Possibly rare resources*) > End Products.
* There's also Taijitu which is a secondry resource, but those spawn uncommonly inside Chests on new uncharted islands, if you flagged an island with a chest, it won't respawn daily like the other stuff if you do loot it. with Taijitu, you can use that to mostly buy Vanity rewards, increase the chimes gained from selling to NPCs, decrease the price of buying resources. to useful stuff like a Hunter XP-boosting suit (but isn't camo), Bonepicker (picks up bones, instead of crushing like a bonecrusher.) and finish off constructing a Mizuyari spear. (tier 85*)...also a crablet pet, though they need Gold Idols from idol crabs that very rarely replaces a regular "rare" crab. (in the last few months, i only found like 3 Idols. and you need 2 of those for a pet)
*Even then, you'll need 90 something slayer to be able to kill the Arhat (basically ascended human elemental ghosts in the shape of a eastern dragon) to get a rare Seiryu's Claw drop to attatch it to the Mizuyari shaft.
That's.. Kinda awesome actually. I might pick RS up again with that being a thing.
keep in mind that you'll need high levels to even gather the resources there, they basically have no outside use. besides the soup/gumbo, but there's easier to get stuff like Rocktail Soup and those are tradable and from older content. don't think there's even a guarantee that they'll eventually do the rest of the eastern lands. there's so few Eastern Lands stuff that generates Old World stuff there besides whatever the Aminishi Monks/Arhat drops or catching the Orokami.
There's still Menaphos in like June/July or so. and the mystery expansion 3 months after that.
to get into it deeper, resources is basically...
• Bamboo, neutral-use item. either works but Golden Bamboo only needs 2 to fletch into a Bundle compared to like 5 regulars.
• 4 types of fish. higher fish needs less fish to turn into Oil, this makes Wobblgong (tier 4) the best with only 2 per Oil. oils are split into 2 tiers in terms of either soup or gumbos.
• Sea Salt and Alaea salt, latter is only on uncharted isles.
• Rumberries...they're the "low tier" version of Mushrooms, when used in stews.
• Mushrooms, used in high tier soups, there's no difference between finding them on individually named islands or uncharted ones, except for the breeds you can find, and maybe the amount you need to make a single slice.
• Tortles and Ornate Tortles. hunt those for shell chippings, Ornate makes shiny bowls which can only be used for high-tier soup.
The auxiliary stuff is in...
• Ancestral Energy, which is a combined positive/negative energy. the only benefit to this is that it's in a usual state already and doesn't require much faffing about on uncharted islands anyway, but you can use it to convert other resources+energy into other types. you generally only find 1 type of energy on Cyclosis (which needs player owned ports+90 skills anyway) for positive, or Negative on Goshima. the major thing is that you can convert 10 Wobblgong Oil (basically 20 wobbls) with 10 ancestral energy into 10 *Shiny Bowls
• Bakami, which are basically just implings, usually hold surface world stuff, eastern skill items or even tradable vanity masks. (masks only comes from Orokami on uncharted islands, that are basically "high" versions)
And even then, there's like 10 sidequests (basically almost quest-like, with things like cutscenes and a consistent plot), discoveryathons like noting down bird breeds and crossbreeding berries. (which for the most part do nothing. even the "rare" berry breed can only be found in seed-form from chests on islands) including 1 non-rare berry bush that spawns on Uncharted Islands (Exuberry) growing bushes takes 48 hours each or so, so it'd be an annoying completionist cape requirement. oh! and all the Mushroom breeds, but at least those are easy to find.
* This honestly gets slightly more ridiculous considering that you could go into a Portables world and mooch off of other people's Portable Cooking stoves to sporadically make extra Wobblgong Oil, by the "endgame" of Eastern Lands, you're probably sitting on far more resources than you can use, unless you purposely gather the more tedious or slower things like Bamboo bundles or something. :D
I'll try finding a chart, if it sounds complicated.
It sounds complicated and I'm kinda sad that it doesn't have any real use outside of its self. I downloaded the client, (also there's a client, whoah) and after finding out my account is still active was confused by the entirely new layout and how everything works. I managed to navigate to the stock exchange thing and found out that membership is both now buyable and that it costs 13mil for a month? That's kinda absurd. Idk where I am anymore, this game went from being a hopeful nostalgia trip to being incredibly confused and wondering how Runescape became a fully competent looking MMO.
Think that just mostly occurred due to Insight Vensure Partners or whoever owns majority of Jagex now. Jagex probably noticed that a lot of people were risking their accounts and indirectly funding bot farms, so they introduced Bonds as a way to legimize "buying" GP for people who buys bonds directly from jagex for money but also prevents people from having their accounts stolen, causing slightly more retained players.
There were a darker period before now when there was a Squeal of Fortune, where its mascot was seriously out of tune with the rest of the game at the time. now it's just a human named alice who just sits there, letting people open chests daily for random loot.
you could also use Bonds to buy runecoins (mostly to exchange for vanity stuff, bank spaces or pets. both vanity and non-gamechanging), Keys (opens daily chests) or the few times they're used for other stuff; buy runefest tickets. no idea if getting membership via Bonds in Modern Runescape gives time in Old School Runescape or viceversa.
Still a bit cautious about what kind of promotions they might pull, since they had community-breaking ones like the Hanto Armor (elaborated on a few months ago in the thread) and Armor of Seasons, to the benign but generally more "fun" ones like the Summer Beach Party "Rares" and currently the Christmas Pinatas.
EDIT: A Month? bonds only gets you like 2 weeks of membership. unless you're talking of Old School bonds or something?
Oh. guess it's 14 days then? idk I didn't read into them other than that they were to be exchanged for membership. I just assumed they were worth one month like most other games with in-game to membership conversions.
i'm really torn between playing my ironman and my main, i keep hopping between the two and ultimately getting nothing done and it's really annoying me
My account was created over 11 years ago and...
I can't think of anything poignant to say so fuck it I'll be direct.

First fire cape!!! :joy:  :joy:

My account is 9 years and 10 month old and I have 0 99s and no firecape in mind
i'm really torn between playing my ironman and my main, i keep hopping between the two and ultimately getting nothing done and it's really annoying me
AFK on one while actively playing on the other. I tend to fish monkfish/make cannonballs etc. on my main while playing my pure and vice versa.
Glad they decided to bring back the XP snowmen
Been playing OSRS a lot lately. it's been fun thus far.
just waiting for them to add raids

It was my first 99 so its only logical that it will eventually be my first (virtual) 120. :v:
Finally managed to man up and give up RS3 to play OSRS.
Oh boy, the joy of starting over...
starting fresh is fun, all those quests and easy levels feels very rewarding
Honestly the beginning of RS was so magical to me as a kid. Everything was so foreign and all these cool things I could do. I could light fires anywhere I wanted, and cook on them? That was magical. WoW had the same feeling for a lot of things back then too. I guess a huge part of that was that would be those were my first MMOs and before that my gaming experiences were mostly the NES, gameboy, GC, ps1 and time crisis at the arcade. I had played a lot of PC games but mostly shooters and diablo, so it wasn't like MMOs were even something I knew about until I heard about WoW when talking to some older kids at the arcade one day while I was waiting for my turn at the time crisis machine.
Any Christmas deals for membership going on?
Any Christmas deals for membership going on?
Premier membership? no idea if it's cheaper than actually having grandfathered rates though. but considering you get extra stuff like a year's worth of daily keys (granted that you log on each day and use them personally), loyalty points and whatever. if you're a OSRS player, you're probably not going to see anything else much than the members time.
There's also different tiers based on how many months you get, so some rewards might be behind higher ones.
EDIT: Because of a typo in one of the Sliske forum Christmas contests, the Jmods will let people get the Drakewing and Deathless Regent outfits from Solomons for free for a week, it isn't live yet, but should be...maybe later in the morning GMT time. think the typo was that they said 300 Runecoins, but didn't state that only one person could win it?
Finally got up to 60 60 45 atk-str-def on 2007. Definitely a lot more annoying considering all I had was the brine sabre. Dragon will at least make training a lot easier, probably going to go to 75 attack then get a GS and go for 85 STR. In any case I'm glad they brought bonds to old school. Been training all my other stats as well as possible. Have all the middle row above 20 and all the right row Above 39 except smithing which is at 2.
Not looking forward to the heroes quest.
Glad they decided to bring back the XP snowmen
What's that?
Should I resub right now? (with gp).
What's that?

It's a christmast event, you just click on snowmen and you get construction xp slowly, along with combat skill xp of your choice.
I got bored of training stats the normal way so I have started doing slayer lately and clue scrolls and the game became magically fun again
