There's ways of turning around quickly, though I think they are much easier to pull off smoothly using a controller. I typically use a back boost to gain some speed, then jump/rotate 180 followed by a forward boost. People tend to forget the second jump doesn't need to be immediate, you can rotate the car before the boost. [editline]25th December 2015[/editline]
I am the best at rocket league on FP and if you disagree fite me 1v1 Also happy holidays rocket FPers. Hopefully we get some new players!!
I don't do 1v1 but I'd be down for a 2v2 or even 3v3. My buddy who I play doubles with is in radiology school and I'm in submarine school, so it's tough to coordinate though.
It all depends on situation, but for less dire situations, I typically powerslide and carry my momentum into going backwards towards the puck/ball. Very easy on a controller, btw
When the ball goes behind you really fast, do you guys take the time to turn around or do you just flip into reverse and use backflips for speed? Personally I go into reverse and use backflips because it is faster than taking the time to turn around, especially if I have no boost, but one of my friends chastises me every time saying I should have turned around instead, even if turning around would have taken up too much time and they would have scored already anyway.
depends entirely on the situation. If I know the ball is just ending up on our side of the map and there's not much chance for a shot on goal, I'll reverse and backflip. if they shoot it and I see they're getting ready for passplay to shoot on the goal, I'll turn around so it's easier for me to save any potential goals (or better yet, hit them out the way before they can take a shot).
Since my last post in late October I've now played 90hours, and captured this earlier: Most of my goals are aerials, and I also do heaps of useful setups. God I hate that Wasteland map though..
That was a sweet shot, man. I was confused as fuck leading up to it, cause I was thinking "He's gonna miss it", but then you barrel rolled into it like a champ I don't like doing that, unless it's urgent or I've fucked up my aerial and am trying to salvage. I prefer to hit the ball with the front of my car, and angle my bonnet so it smacks it into goal.

Also, as seen in the video, I've been working on misdirection. I make both teams think it's in reach then bam. Don't usually do this sort of thing with friends without a callout unless it's happening faster than it can be communicated.

Hitting an aerial on a ball that's popped up and floating nice and easy is easy-peasy; experiment with using barrel rolls/flips to completely change the direction of your hits and you'll find yourself pulling off some absolutely nuts shots.
I incorporate barrel rolls into my aerials a lot, cause - like you said - it helps you get off crazy shots. But I'm more of a defensive player. I prefer to wait and go for a goalshot / aerial if it's safe rather than getting into a position where I've gotta twitch-react to keep the ball in our favour. That doesn't necessarily mean I only take shots when the ball is nice and slow in the air. I'll go for it if I figure there's a decent chance of me hitting it on goal or at least getting a decent pass to a teammate. I've stopped playing Rocket League as much lately, cause I'm tired of hovering around the 1100 rank in 2v2. It's annoying as fuck, especially when I get matched against ESL Monthly Elite champions (it's frustrating). Rounds that'll last up to 10 minutes that you know are a guaranteed loss (sometimes me and my buddy come real close to winning and taking 20 points, we did once, it was awesome), then you end up losing 2 points. Matchmaking can be super borked sometimes.
So my friend scored his first aerial...
Late to the party but to turn around I build up a few metres of reverse speed, then I speed-flip backwards and turn my car around 180 mid-air and boosting back onto the ground and forward. I've found that the fastest way and really doesn't make much of a difference if you're racing a forward-moving car.
I was expecting to be absolute shite after taking almost 2 weeks off from playing due to taking leave, but I was catching the shit out of every ball that went up in the air today. Unfortunately, my goddamn rank in solo standard still went down overall because I got matched up with baddies for a while and I was too stubborn to quit. Got a few good clips though. I wish I could play this well when I stream on twitch, I guess I get bigtime stagefright even though fucking nobody is watching me, lmao. How are you guys recording your replays? And any tips on how to make it easy as possible to record just the bits I want? I just spent 20 mins recording it all in Camtasia, only for it to end up being a black screen lmao (for some reason, it doesn't register RL when it's full-screen). 20 mins going through my replays, and then I knew I'd be spending more time cutting it all together. Fuck that. [editline]28th December 2015[/editline] That "I Just Liked It" video is genuinely the best RL video I've ever seen
I either have twitch set to recording the entire stream, or I keep FRAPS open and mash the record button the second I pull off a good shot so it captures the replay. I've only uploaded one full stream and I fucked up the microphone input for a chunk of it. Still getting the hang of streaming and all that jazz.
[editline]28th December 2015[/editline] That "I Just Liked It" video is genuinely the best RL video I've ever seen
Thanks bro, I just either use Open Broadcast Software if I'm intentionally filming or if its spontaneous: nvidia's built in recording system that automatically saves the last 10 minutes of gameplay.

Had an awkward round where five points were scored but three of them were own goals.
Do you have a newer Nvidia card? (600 series+)
Yeah, you're gonna recommend Shadowplay, yeah? I've decided it's more trouble than it's worth, so I'm just not gonna share my stuff!
Yeah, you're gonna recommend Shadowplay, yeah? I've decided it's more trouble than it's worth, so I'm just not gonna share my stuff!
lol wut? Shadowplay is just simply awesome, I use it with all of my games and it has always worked fine for me.
lol wut? Shadowplay is just simply awesome, I use it with all of my games and it has always worked fine for me.
I never said it wasn't, I just can't be arsed going back through all my replays to make a shitty montage.
Had an awkward round where five points were scored but three of them were own goals.
At least you can say that your team scored 100% of the goals? v:v:v
Yeah, you're gonna recommend Shadowplay, yeah? I've decided it's more trouble than it's worth, so I'm just not gonna share my stuff!
Well that's an odd attitude. Why ask if even the simplest solutions are too much of a bother for you? :v:
At least you can say that your team scored 100% of the goals? v:v:v
Well we scored 2 on ourselves and 2 on the enemy. So closer to 80%. [editline]29th December 2015[/editline] The funny thing is that we scored those two own goals in the first minute and still won. I'd like to say its because we wanted to make it a challenge but well....
Well that's an odd attitude. Why ask if even the simplest solutions are too much of a bother for you? :v:
Cause I realised once you guys replied that it was more effort than I was willing to put in??? I didn't realise until I asked that "even the simplest solutions" is something I cbf to do. If I were gonna share my shots, I'd probs just do Maverick's method.

I didn't realise until I asked that "even the simplest solutions" is something I cbf to do. If I were gonna share my shots, I'd probs just do Maverick's method.
See, the thing is that Shadowplay also does Mavericks method, with the added bonus of being able to save the past 5 / 10 / 15 minutes whenever you want. It's super easy, and has no performance cost.
The problem is, 5 mins is too long. I was hoping for 30 second capture or something. Means I'll have to go and edit / cut a bunch of unneeded footage which is more time than it's worth (I was looking to make a quick montage, not spend an hour splicing stuff together).
I'm having a shitload of fun with this game, but I'm having a hard time improving. Could someone give me some tips? Also I can't do aerials for shit.
Might seem stupid to state the obvious, but just keep playing. If you can't do aerials, attempt them as much as possible, even though you'll fail most of the time. It's the only way you get better. Also, try and play ranked, 2v2 or 3v3 solo is good (1v1 ranked when you're a beginner is just tough and I wouldn't recommend it). That way, you'll always be in a level which suits you, and you'll gradually get introduced to harder and harder opponents, which will force you to learn new stuff (from them) and get better.
I used to be Bronze 2 but went on a losing streak and now I am unranked :suicide:
I was about to say "But it literally takes like 1 hour to get to Bronze 2" but then I remembered everyone is at their own skill level, so it's probably hard as balls for you to get back to where you were. gl, my friend, gl. do that thing Maverick does, when you start to play, say you'll change gamemode to unranked if you lose 10 points below what you started with. that stops those really annoying rank drops.
Even with that system, I've slowly worked down from Gold 2 in Solo Standard down to mid Silver 3. Blaming teammates is the shittiest thing to do, but I feel like there was a certain point when matchmaking started shitting the bed. A month or two ago, I suddenly started getting put in with really low ranked players in that specific gametype (standard and doubles haven't been having the same problem) and my rank has slowly been dropping because I'm setting up passes and shots experienced players have no issues with making, but they just aren't there because they're still beginners. Maybe Solo Standard is leeching off high-level players and most in the playlist are low level players, that's the only logical reason I can see for what's happening. I'm considering not playing it anymore as well at this point.
