Ranks are fucked I used to be gold 3 now im silver 3, doesn't make sense it feels like I'm getting stacked against 3 really good people against my 2 teammates who are shitters. I have 400 hours in the game and I am ALWAYS on the top of my team but I can not carry them. It happened over and over.
Maybe it's time to stop solo rando
Are there any game show-off videos that you would recommend if you were to recommend the game to friends?
Just played a game against a bunch of salty dicks. We scored first and then they tried to spoil star wars in the chat (luckily I've already seen it). I decided to deliberately post made up facts about star wars in the chat and one of them got really bad nerd rage and tried to keep correcting me. We ended up winning 6-1.
Moral of the story: don't be a dick :v:
What's with the match making?
3 games in a row me and my brother (2 pro's) have been put against people significantly better (For example one of our games had 2 experts against us). How is this fair?
It's so unenjoyable
Do you mean in ranked? Your title (veteran, master, pro etc) is seperate from your matchmaking rank. You could be a shit expert or an amazing pro as that title is just dependant on your accumulated xp I think.

This. Pro/vet/expert/whatever means nothing as far as skill goes and doesn't affect ranked matchmaking. I was put in a game earlier with a guy who was saying he's never been higher than Bronze 2 (being put in games with high silvers and golds, guess who's team he was on) and yet he was an "expert."
I don't understand how people could play so much yet still be so unskilled, you'd think they'd at least understand the dynamics of positioning and whatnot, but it happens. I haven't played with anything short of an expert for a while now it seems, but a huge chunk of them could have been beaten by myself when I was just a semi-pro thinking hitting silver was a big deal.
I think a lot of these high-titled people we see just spent most of their time playing unranked. It's sorta Wild West in unranked, and no one really gives a shit for tactics, it's just "slam the ball as hard as you can in any direction possible" mode, so I doubt they learn anything valuable.
Had someone in 1v1 cry about how it was unfair I was Master and he was Semi-pro, and I said titles don't mean jack.
On the topic of 1v1, I feel so fucking bad. I'm grinding up to Silver 2 or 3, but I gotta get through Bronze first. Just nonstop opponents who make me feel like a baby-killer for dominating them. They're the types to sit under a falling ball to hit it, whilst I'm aerialing them and jumping all over the place. I usually score one goal then spend the rest of the round defending my own goal, cause the match finishes quicker. Scoring 4 or 5 goals is boring cause most of these asswipes don't skip goal cam.

A guy was spoiling star wars for me too so I just pretended like I had no clue what on earth he was talking about which made him really mad. v:v:v
(I'm not interested in Star Wars anyways, being spoiled meant nothing to me)
I've recently aquired this game but I don't seem to suck complete ass since I can do saves, goals and aerials but maybe that's just my skill level, haven't played ranked yet and I don't think I will
Any tips or tricks I should know?
I waited a really long time to play ranked because I thought unranked would be more fun without people giving a shit about ranks and whatever, but honestly the game got way more fun once I delved into ranked. You are actually pushed to get better, and while matchmaking becomes absolute ass-tier at higher levels, the general skill level of everyone else is somewhat around yours. I used to think I was a beast playing unranked, I wasn't shit. Now I drop into unranked games to warm up and absolutely demolish everyone.
So I'd suggest giving ranked a shot. If you don't care about your rank, just see it as a convenient way of being matched up with people who have relatively equal skill and aren't going to ragequit willy nilly. Also, you don't have to fuck around with the absolute trash bots.
As for tips and tricks, try out all the different vehicles. They all handle differently and have different sized hitboxes, find one that suites you. Don't be afraid to changing out vehicles when you start feeling like the one you're using can't do what you want it to do. Sometimes you'll get absolutely demolished by another team, instead of getting all pissy at your teammates, observe. Look at what they're doing, figure out why you haven't been able to get a damn clear all game. Then practice and utilize those techniques yourself in later games. You should always be trying to learn new things and get better, don't become complacent with your style and figure you'll just be that "aerials guy," or the, "dribbling guy." Become the everything guy.
I fucked my MR so bad I am a Master playing against semi-pros lol

I look forward to getting destroyed by all of you in the Winter Olympics now that Rocket League is in.
I'd like to be on the team, if it works with my schedule. Doubt it will, though.
I'm only a couple hours in, but I love this game. So satisfying when you line up a nice goal.
Do you guys use the the ball-lock camera setting or let it move freely? Any advantage either way?

I use locked camera for pretty much everything. Only reason to turn it off is when you're looking for other things, e.g. boost.

I've also been turning it off while trying to hit the ball from the wall. The camera puts itself at a really shitty place otherwise.
Good lord is ranking up a frustrating experience. I'm only silver and I have no delusions of being a legend in this game, but I swear to god 75% of the time I get stuck with a teammate doesn't really have a grasp on the game yet. TBH I'd much rather see my teammate go for an aerial and miss than just sit there waiting for the ball to fall while the other team aerials overtop of them; at least it shows they know what they should be doing even if they can't quite do it yet.
The one thing that still really throws me off in this game is when the ball is right over top of you. Ball cam seems too disorienting, but switching to regular cam feels wonky too.
Had around 350GB worth of footage laying around, decided to do something with it:

There's a sound glitch at 0:35, not sure what causes it.
I'll re-render and reupload the video. :/

fixed
I'm mad jealous of how well you aim in aerials. 9/10 times I'll hit the ball in the general direction I want, but when I try finesse aiming, I end up fucking it.
video would have been better imo without that cheesy Undertale bit at the end.

Yeah I just wanted to use that particular song, and I figured it made sense to transistion into the save compilation that way :v:
Also, it's a montage, it's not exactly representative of my skill. This is when things actually end up working. Often I just miss, or hit at the wrong angle, but with 200 hours of gameplay there's enough highlights to compile into something that looks impressive.
Was playing a game earlier, we were winning 3-1 at the 3:00 mark and fucked up letting them score 2 goals to tie, but in the last 30 seconds of the buzzer we brought the score to 6-3, with the last goal being made immediately after the buzzer hit 0.
This game is really good for taking screenshots holy fuck:

Just keep practicing, it comes naturally eventually.

How? And without the HUD even!
Ok, can somebody explain the bullshit ranked system to me? Keep getting constantly matched against people that are doing aerial shots left and right and 'pros' even though i'm unranked and 'semi pro' and every time i win i get like 4-8 points and every single time that i lose, i lose 7-12 points. Like what the actual fuck kind of bullshit system is this?

I've tried to get an understanding of it with no luck.
It just does whatever it wants.

From what I've read, and maybe I didn't understand it correctly, but the system gauges your skill level and decides which bracket you belong in at the time being. So, for example, if the MM system thinks you're at the Bronze II skill level, wins below that in Bronze I will net you more points, and wins in Bronze III will net you fewer points. Same way with losses, losses above your perceived skill level make you lose more points, losses below you lose less.
There's also other factors, like the ranks of the people you're playing against. They might be "good" but they also might have purposefully trashed their MM rank so they could rip apart new/shitty players. They might be on new accounts trying to regain their rank, or trying out a new playlist. I was unranked in Duel, decided to give it a go, and absolute obliterated everyone I was put up against because they're all new players mostly and I'm gold ranked in everything else.
But basically, if you're not winning many points and losing a lot, the system has deemed you need to git gud before making it easier for you to enter a higher bracket. It's basically crediting your wins to luck or teammates carrying you, it doesn't think you can hang in a higher bracket. But if you grind your way up to said higher bracket, it will adjust and realize you deserve to be there. I had to fight my way up to gold, barely got fuck all for wins and lost a ton for losses, but once I hit gold it got way easier to hold it and earn it back after losing it.
It should factor in your score compared to those of your teammates and opponents. Having a low score doesn't mean you're bad, but having a high score definitely means you're doing good things.
Solo standard is terrible, but I'm sick of getting a score of like 670 with 2 goals and saves and shit, and both my teammates having under 100. meanwhile the other team has an even spread of points.
Maybe it really is just the luck of the draw, you can only hard-carry so much but it seems like it's very easy to get stuck in high silver/gold in solo standard
