Not sure what you mean about the camera. On the ground, it isn't locked behind you, it isn't meant to be a hard fixed camera on the rear of the car. A fixed camera like that would probably make people nauseous as it'd be whipping all over the place as cars flipped and whatnot. Pretty sure it's more momentum based, it's also why very few people use that camera except when hunting for boost, analyzing the field, or very fine ball handling.
The controls might take you some time to get used to, but they are extremely intuitive imo. You eventually learn how to operate the car independent of the camera, your inputs are relative to the vehicle and not relative to the camera. Having them relative to the camera would cause a lot of fuckups, because what happens when you're just trying to manually look around while driving, making you swerve since your input direction would be changing as the camera swivels?
The flying in this is much more dependent on pitch/yaw than anything else. Rolling (I mapped it to the right bumper) is just for re-orienting yourself after flinging around and really fancy shots. I rarely ever touch the roll button. The cars don't handle like airplanes, think rockets more than planes. Changing direction in mid-air isn't about rolling and pitching, it's about pointing the nose of the car at where you wanna go and boosting.
Just like anything new, it feels like there's tons of things you gotta think about when playing. You'll be slow to react and will feel overwhelmed sometimes. But it eventually becomes second nature, muscle memory. If you need to change the controls, then change them, but the standard layout works really well for just about everyone. Just takes practice.
It's probably a good idea that the camera stays locked while you're dodging, but once you're flying through the air, it would be nice if it at least rotated around the vertical axis so that you can see what's in front of your car. If you turn by more than 90 degrees or so while you're in the air, you basically can't see where you're going anymore. How is that ever useful? It's also hard to manually manipulate the camera when you're busy using all the other flying controls. I'm not saying they should just force a new kind of camera on everyone, but at least having options to configure its behavior would be nice.
Also TIL you can actually roll while in the air. Not sure why the tutorial doesn't tell you that. Or maybe I just missed that part. It's kind of awkward that you have to hold down an extra button to enable rolling though.
I definitely have to disagree with you about the intuitiveness of the controls. To me intuitive means that you can easily pick up the controls and do exactly what you want with them, not "you have to spend 30 hours playing this just to get the basics down". This game is exactly the opposite of that, the controls are so confusing that they often prevent me from doing what I want
An unusual goal that happened today:

the earth stood still for what seemed like a year when soaring with the ball

I don't know anyone who aerials outside of ball cam, it's hard as fuck to pull off aerials without it. I dunno why you're trying to pull it off as a beginner. Once again, rolling is not that useful, the only thing it really gets used for is helping position the car for better landings.
I was able to pick it up and just start playing, I watched montages before I ever touched the game so I went into it wanting to aerial. I got it down fairly quickly, just a few matches really. I think the problem is you're trying to pull off things (aerials without ball cam, for example) that aren't really meant to be done by most people. Stick to ball cam as a beginner, it'll help you learn the game and controls much easier. Basic aerials are as simple as keeping the nose pointed at the ball while flying, which will be somewhere near the center of the screen in ball cam.

On kickoff, if you roll the call a little bit before flipping you can "win" the kickoff more often.
For aerials, I use the front of my car as a guide and pretty much never miss. I guess it just takes practice. What IS hard is getting really hard cuts with aerials, you tend to hit it in or whiff completely.
Add up G.O.A.M on steam, finally decided to get Rocket League on PC
So the first season is ending in Feb, and everyone bronze and up is getting a topper based on your rank (bronze, silver, gold, platinum crowns). Also they are adding item classifications (common for stock, rare for holiday things, etc), which includes a new class of items called uncommon, that will drop, well, uncommonly. The probability goes up based on how much you play and resets when you get the drop. Seems like a fun rewards system, but I hope this isn't Psyonix preparing for a TF2 economy.
I wouldn't mind this game going full tf2 crazy levels with items. As long as it's all cosmetics, I think it's fine.

I just don't want keys/crates
Wow I just realized how much of an asshole I can be in this game. I just had a duel that was 2 to 2 with 1 minute left.
I had the ball and the enemy was in his net waiting for me to make a play. I decided to play for time and I just let the ball roll slowly for ~30 seconds, then hit the ball slightly to fake a play. The enemy came out of the net to hit the ball and I immediately boosted around the ball and slammed into him then powerslid back to the ball and pushed it in. I definitely don't feel like I deserved that win, but I want out of bronze hell.
i sure have a lot of skill its totally not RNGesus on my side

Sorry for the Queen music (I listen to music on spotify when I play Rocket League) but the songs that were playing fit so well with the video
Also how do you hide the HUD in replays?
Get ready for copyright infringement with that music
Ah, the infamous 6-car whiff. Haven't seen one of those in a while.
Don't Stop Me Now works awesomely with Rocket League, so much so that now I'm making a Spotify playlist for Rocket League :v:
Any suggestions?

Start making friends in casual. If you work well with someone add him after the game and ask to play again.

Thanks, I'll do that.
Also how do you hide the hud in replay mode? Sorry if this is a stupid question

Does anyone have any issues with the steam controller in this game? It doesn't work and never loads the controller config menu.

I've made a Spotify playlist for my Rocket League playing as well, and I've recently just been kinda throwing in everything but it's generally all high bpm/faster paced stuff.
Also, considering no one has posted it yet:

Digging the new maps. Probably won't be able to play them for a while, but looking forward to it regardless.
