I dunno, Knife spears are my go-to starting weapon 'cause they're awesome and easy to craft at the very beginning.
Fucking damn it. Met a survivor and begged for items until he agreed. "Jason Andrews gave you a none!" Well thanks, I thought and was on my way. Later I found out that this "none" now takes letter "e" in my inventory, cant be dropped or interacted with. Other items get assigned to letter "e" and can't be dropped either. Now I have a few steel platings and a battery, all assigned to letter "e". I am constantly getting more pain due to overweight and always fucked up. Rest in peace Jason Andrews. You deserved to be ran over, beaten up with a rock and threwn in the river.

Give me just a few moments to dig through the files to make sure I've got everything right! [editline]5th December 2013[/editline] Okay, shit changed a bit when I converted this character to 0.9. That's bad. I'm not 100% on this one anymore, but I'm pretty sure I've got it: Open your Cataclysm save folder and your world folder. There should be some files in here, among them stuff like maps.txt and artifacts.gsav. You're looking for the only .sav file. Open that in notepad. It shouldn't be too big. This file holds literally only things that are relevant to your character, such as traits, skills, stats, and - most importantly - inventory. The top bit should have stuff like 'hallucinations: false' in it. This controls status effects. Below that is a field of numbers. No idea what that is. Below that is a kill list, below that is some other stuff such as quest amounts and stats. Below that is what we're looking for; your inventory. Editing is simple: Add, change or remove lines based on what you want to happen. For the 'none' bug, just find the line with the 'none' item in it, and remove it. It should automatically fix any letters any other items are using. To give you an example of what an inventory item looks like, here's 3 lines straight from my character's .sav file: {"bday":279723,"damage":1,"invlet":99,"typeid":"crude_picklock"}, {"bday":372736,"invlet":121,"typeid":"katana"},{"bday":0,"invlet":108,"typeid":"knife_butcher"}, As you can see, there are no spaces or line breaks so it can get kinda messy picking through there. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
I made that ganz rustung crossbow and I can't seem to hit shit with it even when it's like 7 blocks away. I guess normal and repeating crossbow or the reflex recurve bow are better.
7 blocks is a ways away unless you have a high archery skill. Stuff like the Ganz-Rustung are better for one shot close-in against a big thing like a hulk. The reflex recurve is absolutely the best if you can fire it, due to the firing rate and other big weapon stat increases like accuracy and damage. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
Oh shit acid rain destroys metal :v: Are you only supposed to use glass to collect acid rain? It doesn't really make sense that you can boil it and make batteries if the cans melt in acid rain.
I swear I've never had a problem with acid rain destroying anything under a funnel, I don't know what's going on for your guys. Acid will damage anything, though. Any item whatsoever. Vehicles are safe, as are constructions. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
I can get meat normally, but when I try and eat it, even after cooking it, it says it smells disgusting and gives food poisoning. In some ways you're kinda lucky, I've been looking for one of those to set up shop near. The heat can be great in Winter. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
Also how long does common cold last with medicine?
It's of variable length/strength, anywhere from I think 12 hours to like 3-4 days. I think it gets worse the more you leave your house, but I don't experience them enough to give any really good input on. I usually walk around with a filter mask on 24/7. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
The yellow thing next to it, is in fact a solar panel. So yes! edit And the vehicle I made with it.
Is that a FoodCo Food Buddy? Where did you find that, and can you tell me what it does? I assume the same as an RV kitchen unit, but I'd really like to know. I've never seen one.
Is it safe to use normal water for making meat slices in bags?
Is it safe to use normal water for making meat slices in bags?
It should be, I've used dirty water for making coffee before. [editline]6th December 2013[/editline] Is there any way to get seeds other than just finding them?
Is there any way to get seeds other than just finding them?
You can pick blueberry and strawberry bushes to sometimes get seeds.

Unless you've got a lot in your inventory, it shouldn't take long. You might find it when the Find tool didn't. [editline]6th December 2013[/editline] I had that happen the first time, actually.
Wow finding seasoning salt gets you so much long term food preservation. You can make jerky for 5 units of seasoned salt, and it uses up two meat chunks for about 40 nutrition and -1 thirst. Pretty damn worth just carrying around for making jerky on the go.
Damnit. Found a goo canister, activated it, first thing the blob does is walk (ooze?) into a dissector...
How long does a fire have to go on for, for zombie corpses to burn completely to ash? Trying to cut down on butchering them (because ew) and wanna burn them instead. Is it a matter of how hot the fire is? [editline]The past[/editline]
What's the problem with butchering zombies? I always do it just for the sake of survival skill grind
Think about it, these are rotting decomposing things that used to be and still vaguely look human. Would you want to butcher them in the same way you use to get meat from animals? I can't imagine it'd be very good for your mental health. [editline]December 14, 2013[/editline] Been ages, but I figured out it needs to be at least a fire(?) to burn corpses into ash. But you can't just throw a bunch of sticks into one pile for it to become a large fire, you need some in the spaces around it too. Like this: / /X/ / Where / is one stick and X is two, works wonders for burning down those corpses!

Never had to conserve anything as getting meat is easy as hell (dogs, all the damn dogs).

I've got 3 zombear corpses by my turret waiting for my next mutagen spree.
What's the problem with butchering zombies? I always do it just for the sake of survival skill grind [editline]6th December 2013[/editline] What I dislike about Cataclysm is that there isn't much to do once you are prepared to fight anything. No goals. I think the game could be very well expanded into something in the State of Decay format.
Raid science labs, explore mines, delve through temples, clear out triffid groves or fungals spires... There's plenty to do, just depends on how much you care to do it. Everything has a benefit, from good loot to wiping out a threat.
FOODCO buddy does a lot actually. It will purify water, vacuum seal food, dehydrate food, craft ammo with it and it's a storage box too. If you put it next to your RV kitchen, you get a SUPER KITCHEN. I crafted it, not sure where you would find one.

He can slice any piece of shit in pieces. He can craft anything. He has two cars and practically infinite food or water. He walks around towns during day, just for target practice. There is just no treat anymore. [editline]6th December 2013[/editline] Started a new game with a weak, but smart and quick character. Took Frail. Now it's a real challange. A zombie can take me down in a 1vs1 fight. Hell, a dog can take me down. [editline]6th December 2013[/editline] At least a bandage heals half of my torso hp.
Is there a better way to collect acid rain other than funneled glass bottles? There were puddles of acid and I was wondering if there's some way to collect from there because somehow I didn't collect a single bit of acid rain from 9 funneled bottles :v:

I'm really puzzled by your stuff getting destroyed under funnels, because I've had tons of shit sitting out in the acid rain collecting and it was fine. Just to make sure, you guys are putting it on the same tile as the funnel, right? Yeah i've collected acid water by activating funnels on glass bottles before. I was just wondering if there was any more reliable way. I guess I just had really bad luck that time despite the weather being acid rain and creating storm puddles.
Man, since my last save shat itself i made a new char. A knife master soldier start. Feels so op slahing zombies on bushes. But it's gonna be a bitch to read all those books again. Also found a landmine but why the hell it didnt do shit against a group of 3 zombies. Only laid a few scrathces on them. Also how I clean up liquids?
1-2 days usually. I once got rid off it in a single day. This may vary as it seems that the hidden value of "immunity" affects it. It's a half mythical number that seems to exist, but nobody ever proven it. It's increased by vitamines and decreased by antibiotics. That's all we know.
Here, let me debunk that myth for you:
player.cpp, line 4216: infect("common_cold", bp_mouth, 3, rng(20000, 60000));
That's the line that gives you the common cold, on the mouth bodypart with an intensity of 3 and a random turn length between 20000 and 60000. It's based on this:
(!has_disease("flu") && !has_disease("common_cold") && one_in(900 + 10 * health + (has_trait("DISRESISTANT") ? 300 : 0)))
So as long as yo have the flu or the common cold, you can't get sick again. The health variable seems to be a little random, and might be the one you're talking of. I didn't bother checking the entire source code for what makes it tick up or down, but the little part that I did find just makes it random:
if (health > 0 && rng(0, health + 10) < health) health--; if (health < 0 && rng(0, 10 - health) < (0 - health)) health++; if (one_in(12)) health -= 1;
So basically, the more 'healthy' you are, the less chance there is that you do get sick. However it's still possible, there just isn't a very high chance for it to happen. Just assuming that your health is at 0, you still only have a 0.11% chance of getting sick.
I'd like to see how you fair against an [sp]Amigara Fault[/sp]. It's one of the possible ends to a mine.
Yeah, main rule of cataclysm is that no matter how powerfull you are you will die. I just didn't want to wait for it to happen.

When I decide my character has lasted his time, I will make a killdozer and go mach 10 through a town. I'm already saving up batteries for that time
Playing with Frail is surprisingly fun.
Why not go out with a bang? When I decide my character has lasted his time, I will make a killdozer and go mach 10 through a town. I'm already saving up batteries for that time
I did this one time when I used the console to complete my APC for a screenshot. I decided to see how far I could get into this bee hive I had spotted that was behind two forest tiles. With 4 V8 engines I was going in excess of 200 MPH. I plowed through both forest tiles, a tile and a half of the beehive, and would've kept going if it hadn't ruptured my gas tanks and caused all my fuel to leak out. Super super fun.
can you transfer liquids from containers in your inventory? i have some flasks of mutagen and i want to put it into a canteen or something
can you transfer liquids from containers in your inventory? i have some flasks of mutagen and i want to put it into a canteen or something
Yep, you just 'U'nload it inside your inventory and press another container afterwards, it'll pour it into that container. That's how I fill my canteen up with water from my steel jerrycan atleast.
What's with the dreams you get from taking a lot of mutagen?
