Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - FUCK NO SPORTING GOODS STORES

Allright now that I've done all the faffing about I needed to do to set-up the stream and get my game options like I wanted, I'm gonna be streaming for the next couple of hours. Come laugh at my incompetence if you'd like: http://www.twitch.tv/angryfrenchkanadian
God I wish there was a mobile version of this or something similar. I'm always on the move and this game's the perfect nonlinear time killer.
You can put it on a USB drive. That's about as mobile as you can get with most Roguelikes.
Once again surrounded by zombies, but it's totally my fault. It's funny, usually I'm frustrated by roguelikes but making stupid mistakes in this is really fun! Still streaming, by the way.
[editline]4th February 2014[/editline]
Somehow I'm still not dead.
Ahhh, nooo! I killed myself with my own frag rounds. I thought they only made a 3x3 explosion, but they made a 4x4 one this time and I was one tile too close. Stupid mistake.
[editline]5th February 2014[/editline]
Well, next time I'll be more careful.
[editline]5th February 2014[/editline]
One of the highlights of my run was finding two LAWs on dead zombie soldiers and using them to breach a locked armory. That's where I found my frag rounds.
Has anyone ever found a usable car on the road?
Define 'usable'.
If you mean gasses, working wheels, controls, engine, alternator and battery. Then yes.
Admittedly it's AMAZINGLY rare, but you CAN find vehicles with everything, including gas and battery power (Granted it's usually a really low % like... 2 or so...). But more often you're gonna find most vehicles without tires.
'Course, I'm usually playing the latest experimental build, so your experiences may vary. Find a working RV though and it's GG.
I found an armored car complete with mounted machine guns on a bridge once.
Is there a way to move furniture or are you obliged to deconstruct it?
[editline]6th February 2014[/editline]
Also can beds be built or do I need to rely on my sleepingbag if I build my own home?
In the current experimental, you can cntrl+g furniture around. Makeshift beds can be made as well, 2X4's, nails and a blanket will do it. Dunno if a proper bed can be made.
Proper beds can't be made, no. Which is really sad. Makeshift beds aren't as good as normal beds for restfulness, although honestly I'm pretty certain sleep deprivation doesn't have negative effects yet. Unless it was added in an experimental, you can play for years of ingame time without ever sleeping to no ill effect. Not that there's much to even do in the dark unless you've got spotlights built for reading or have a LOT of shit you need to disassemble.

There is a major downside to not sleeping: annoying "you want to sleep" messages appearing every 10 seconds or so.
It's not really a big deal. Unless you've got a lot of important things flashing by, you can ignore it just as easily as you can anything else.
Oh, yeah. The devs should probably consider adding penalties for being tired.
Can't you build proper beds via 'installing' them into a steel frame, using a seat?
Oh, yeah. The devs should probably consider adding penalties for being tired.
It's on the to-do list. Pretty sure it's not that high of a priority, given the above.

I actually never thought of that, but I'm not sure if those actually count as beds. The wiki doesn't explicitly mention them on the sleep page though, so you may be right.
Because working on an oral report due for tomorrow is for the weak, I'm going to be livestreaming this again for the next two hours at: http://www.twitch.tv/angryfrenchkanadian
This time, I shall play as "Average Joe", the plumber.
Oh god the DDA forums have 97 pages of amazing fanart

Ran across an error and I'm not sure if it's throwing an error for no real reason, or if I'm totally overlooking it.

The partition between groups is set out exactly as the others which work fine.

Ahem, the missing "]" after "hk_mp5", 20 ?
Ahem, the missing "]" after "hk_mp5", 20 ?
Strange, doesn't throw an error for there. Must be why I was overlooking, shall ammend and test again.
[editline]9th February 2014[/editline]
Yup. I'm an idiot. Teaches me to that I should take breaks between long coding/modding sessions.
Start to overlook such small things.
Strange, doesn't throw an error for there. Must be why I was overlooking, shall ammend and test again.
It might be the cause of that error. You see, the compiler won't throw an error "A missing brace!" because it doesn't consider it missing: in thinks stuff is the way it should be.
So it will traverse down the json tree and think that everything after ", 20" is also a part of the hk_mp5 object. Then, once it reaches the end of the tree and finds out that the amount of closed braces is not the same as the amount of opened braces it will throw an error. At the place it found out that there is an error.
In that case it reached the "}" symbol after modular kevlar and found that json tree is flawed.
That's probably what you get.

Only first 50~pages have good art don't bother with other
Also i ended up on whales (original Cataclysm dev) and hes talking about Cataclysm 2
Kinda an asshole move when he abandoned the project and when other people started working on it.

That makes sense. I'm usually a lua coder, so Json I'm still trying adapt to structure wise.
The lack of a break and not being 100% familiar with it. I assumed it was telling me the break for the group to the next was the problem, which was why I was confused.
Thank you by the way. :v:

I remember reading about that on the forums somewhere, he asked the current devs about some of the stuff they've done and how they've re-written the code. I wouldn't worry so much about it though, from what I've read Whales has a really bad habit of dropping all of his projects after a few months of development.
The lightning storm finally stopped and I left the Lab Bunker I was holed up in. After stumbling through a forest, I find my way to a few houses. As I jimmy the door open on one of them, I pick up a whole shitload of wild/feral animals including a cougar on the whats around you indicator...........
I say "fuck it" and continue going into the house. Above and beyond the fact that I learned you can close curtains the house has a shitload of bookcases. I manage to block off all windows and door, fully aware it was a temporary and possibly dumb solution. On the bright side, the house has some Yoo Hoo(or chocolate drink as its called in game), Root Beer and jars of pickled meat. I hunker down and study, #'s representing the animals outside circling the house. 4 Game days pass without incident until I hear a WHUMP!. A Zombie Dog finally managed to get in. I take a few hits, but manage to put it down and butcher it. Taking the worst into consideration, I pull one of the other bookshelves away and make a run for it.
I run for a good long while with dogs, cats, weasels, a raccoon, zombie dogs and the freakin' cougar on my ass. I managed to lose some of them in the forest I initially ran through and am now back in the Lab Bunker where I sat out a week long lightning storm........
Unless you have some reason for them to attack you or you attack them first, cats, weasels and raccoons won't attack you. Dogs will sniff up to you and just generally annoy the FUCK out of you - seriously you little shits, I am trying to fucking fast travel, quit pissing off my auto-pause thing - but won't attack unless you do. Cougars are generally non-hostile unless you get too close.
I highly suggest Animal Empathy. For 1 point, it has saved my ass so many times it's not even funny.

Dogs are a lifetime supply of meat though.
