Release Candidate for 0.A has been posted! http://smf.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=a4201UuHHeIGhSNmAaHjk0&topic=5496.0 Turns out I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to the wiki! Only full stable builds and the link to the nightly are posted on the wiki. So uh. Whoops. My bad. Also sorry for getting to this late, it's been in the back of my mind the last few days but there's been Diablo III's patch, Renegade X open beta, my best friend's been having RL problems, and then there's Warframe - there's always Warframe. Cataclysm's been sitting on a shelf for the past couple days. [editline]26th February 2014[/editline] Oh wait, it was only released like two hours ago. Well shit. I TAKE BACK EVERYTHING I SAID, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I'M DOING!
God so much new shit in this uptate. Runs pretty well too. Also new zombies, new guns new shit everywhere.
Melee has been made less good i think. I'm having even more trouble than i used to hitting things.
I wonder if point blank throwing is still more effective than meleeing zomber dogs...
So does burning zombie corpses prevent them from reanimating like butchering them does? How burned do they have to be? I just light the corpses with the pocket lighter and they get the 'burnt' status after a while, not sure if you can even burn them more than that.
Effectively you want the yellow gone when you go to pick up the corpse. Also you don't have to butcher anymore, pulping via smashing works perfectly fine and it takes very few turns. Still want to butcher shockers when you've got time though, unless they changed in 0.A they have a chance to give you CBMs.
Also is it me or do zombie soldiers shit out guns and ammo. [editline]27th February 2014[/editline] Also whats the best way to deal with turrets at the military outposts?
I started a new world to try out melee, and it is indeed harder. I don't think it's intentionally nerfed so much as zombies are tougher now and there are more actually meaty zombies to deal with. The turrets at the military outposts are generally best dealt with via corners. Anything that can block LoS while getting you close enough to shoot is good. Just be careful not to let the zombie soldiers swarm you, or to let their bursts actually go off while you're out of cover.

Would driving full speed into the turrets work?
In theory. The problem is they explode, plus they'll shoot you on the way. If you can't get any sort of LoS blocker, you can always grab something like a crossbow or something with a lot of range and try to out range them. That's usually what I end up having to do. Step forward and wait a few turns to see if they start firing. If they do, back up and shoot from there.

Oh no, I take them out with arrows. Unless they upgraded them to something that's actually threatening, the turrets have jack for armor.
Yeah i got closer with a M4/UMP.45 and the turrets went poof. [editline]27th February 2014[/editline] Is there any way to demolish a concrete wall since every time i try to blow it up the entire thing collapses. There is a barracks of some sort at the outpost that has no door to it.

Time to try to find one then.
Is there any point in burning zombies rather than butchering them, apart from difference in time consumption? I mean, why not go for some survival xp if you're not in immediate danger?
Is there any point in burning zombies rather than butchering them, apart from difference in time consumption? I mean, why not go for some survival xp if you're not in immediate danger?
Perhaps its because early game you are more likely to have something to start a fire with rather than something that can butcher corpses without a lot of fuss? Also, you can stack corpses like pretty much any other "item", so you can destroy a bunch at once versus walking over and butchering them individually.
You don't have to destroy the corpse to keep it from rising, just smash it to pulp it. Longest I've seen that take is like 3 whole turns, - and honestly I'm not sure that wasn't multiple corpses - and since the revival counter is hours long it's not really a big deal either way. Butchering nets XP. As for reasons why not to butcher them, I don't know if corpse decay is still not in yet, so if it's not you can just leave them lying around for a source of tainted meat when you want to make a shit ton of mutagen.
Oh yeah, I've become too used to starting with a pocket knife every time. Now it makes more sense, though pulping them seems like the best solution then.
I am very pleased with the update so far. The mod system overhaul in particular is incredible; I can put certain gun mods on bows and crossbows now. Technically I think you're able to put up to the max of each type on a ranged weapon too, so with some weapons you can have like 8 or more.
I was stumbling around at dark to find a place to sleep, find a semi truck. I wake up to this. i ran
So i finnaly managed to replace the battery and the gas tank in my Low-Grade box truck or what was it called. TO THE OPEN ROAD. Also my car is full of guns guns and more guns since the gunbasements provide all kinds of cool things.

I don't have that much ammo for them, but it's still pretty ridiculous. I even have a stack of 'extra' guns, duplicates in case something happens to the others. This includes several AK-47s, MAC-10s, and just a ton of other duplicates. Book reading simulator with occasional survival
You'd be surprised. I'm a long ways away from any unlimited sources of water and I don't have any funnels or many bottles yet, so I'm kinda living day to day when it comes to water. I tend to read during the night or close to it as I have a bit of lava just outside my house, - also acts like a fire, because cooking with lava is definitely a safe thing to do - but I have to be careful with how long my character stays awake. I think I have enough clean water to last a few days, but I'm running out of toilet water to purify.

Using a Remington 700 and a UMP.45 right now Until they run out of ammo then I'm gonna bust out another rifle from the car.
I'm still running around with a crossbow and a longbow. I mostly use the crossbow, but when there's a lot of enemies and not much kiting room I swap to the longbow. Can't wait until I can make that reflex recurve.
Yeah, so I met a Jabberwock today... It caved my chest in with three or so punches... Man, this game got (even more) brutal after the update.
Jabberwocks have been in since at least 0.8, I used to hunt the fuck out of them for tainted meat. If you're not prepared they will indeed rip you a new one. [editline]28th February 2014[/editline] And by 'prepared' I mostly mean 'bring a burst weapon.'
